Aight, fellow minecrafters. You guys delivered well on the information concerning internet phones. I'm in love with this Nexus One. Now, I have another challenge for you guys, and I assume this one's easier.
As I said before, I'm not very tech-y unfortunately, which sucks in the internet age. I use technology up the yin-yang but couldn't be bothered to learn what it means and how it works for more than a couple minutes at a time. SO,
I need a new desktop computer. I require this:
2.4 ghz dual core or better
2 GB RAM or better
Harddrive, well, 30GB+ really I could care less, I don't use it
<$500
Is this possible or even easy? what should I be looking for? I literally have no idea where to look for computers past Wal-Mart, so I obviously need some help.
Also, I need to know about getting a good video card. I know not the first thing about video cards. Price or where to get them.
Furthermore, if I want to play a modern game on said computer, do I need any kind of specific power source or anything really?
Are you trying to build an entire computer or are you just replacing that specific hardware on your current computer? Anyways, newegg.com is a good place to find what you need, but you can always shop around once you know what you want. You can easily get a processor, RAM, and an HDD for under $500, unless you want to go a little more high-end. I was sorta generous with your "or better" bit, and found a 750GB HDD, Dual-Core 3.0GHz CPU. and 4GB of RAM for about $350. They may not be the best parts (I'm not really sure), but they easily fit in that price range. I'm not the most informed when it comes to this stuff, so hopefully someone else can provide some more info.

Well, you hit it spot on, see, I didn't even know stuff like this existed for that price.
Helped a ton, thanks.
Now, does anyone know if I need specific parts? I'm not techy but I know how to build computers, I turned an emachine from 1999 into an ubuntu using some ramcards, a new power source and harddrive. I'll use Call of Duty 4 as an example of the kind of game I'd like to play: not completely modern but rather modern. If I were to just pick up any computer with those specifications, would I run into any troubles playing a game from that time period?
And regarding your ability for videogame performance, using the specs that above above above poster mentioned, you shouldn't have a problem playing games from that time period.
Just remember to get a decent graphics card. ;P
