As probably, most of you who are reading this may have a "slow" or "weak" PC to operate Minecraft with Sonic ether's Unbelievable Shaders (SEUS) mod. In this tutorial, I will teach you how to increase FPS in Minecraft with SEUS installed. NOTE: This tutorial supposes you already KNOW how to modify your minecraft.jar and install mods.
Requirements:
- 1.4.2 GLSL Files (when installing the files alone, you must create a shaders folder within the jar) or 1.4.2 GLSL Installer
credit to id_miner and Karyonix (for installer).
- Latest Optifine
- Notepad++
- WinRAR
Installation:
- On a clean minecraft.jar, delete your META-INF and place all the downloaded files of Optifine in the jar. After that, run the installer(recommended) and/or paste the files from the .zip and proceed to step 1.
Step 1:
In this Link download the shader files depending on your graphics card. If you run on nVidia (Like me), Stick to v08. If you run on ATi, choose v09. IMPORTANT: Get the Lite or Super Lite versions.
Step 2:
After downloading the zip, extract it, and place them in your shaders folder in your minecraft.jar. (Almost done!)
Step 3 (the editing):
After you replaced the shader files with the new ones open final.fsh with notepad++. Scroll down and you should see stuff like this:
These are the currently enabled features. To disable some (I already disabled some) type // right after the "#define" on the feature. An example is: (enabled) #define gamma, (disabled) //#define gamma. I will explain the enabled ones so you know what they are:
Vignette - This feature darkens the edge of your screen to make better screenshots. Disabling it may increase FPS but I keep it on.
Crossprocess - I don't really understand this feature, but it is supposed give the light of the sun (in minecraft) better look. Disabling it will increase FPS.
Dark and Brightmulti - This multiplies some dark and light areas in the game higher. You can modify it, but disabling this may make the shaders disappear, as if making your computer lag for no reason.
MotionBlur - Many people are annoyed of this feature, and if disabled, will increase FPS. This is already disabled with the lite version.
High desaturation - Makes the game look better. Disable if you want
Gamma - Brightens the screen the lower the value. For some reason, the lower the value, the better the framerate(but that will make your screen extremely white if set below 40).You can edit it, but disabling it will end up hiding the shaders like the dark and brightmulti.
To enable a feature again, remove the // before #define on the feature. Save and close it.
Step 4:
Now, open composite.fsh and you should see this:
I recommend not editing the LQ and HQ setting on a slow computer as that will make the lag even more intense! Here are the features:
Blur factor- I don't know what this does.
Shadow darkness - By default, this is at 1.10, you can set it at a lower value to, hopefully, increase FPS. Increasing value will make the shadows pitch black.
ShadowDistance and ShadowPHL - These 2 should have equal values, even when edited. What this does is set the render distance of shadows. Both HAVE to be the same or something may go wrong.
ShadowRes - How sharp shadows are rendered (like the player shadow, mob shadows and maybe block shadows too) You can't disable this, but lowering the values will increase FPS and reduce lag.
SSAO - Screen Space Ambient Occlusions. This improves the smooth lighting option to look better, EVEN when smooth lighting is off, you will still see it. Typing // on every line with SSAO will increase FPS greatly!
Correct Shadow Colors - Colors sunlight and ambient light correctly as if, real life. Disable if you want; I prefer not too.
Shadow Offset - I don't know how this affects and if it will affect gameplay when disabled.
FXAA - Broken. Nothing to do here!
Save and exit.
Step 5:
This is not seen in most tutorials in how to increase FPS with the shader on. Open gbuffer_terrain.vsh (not fsh) and you will see this:
That's right, disable waving objects. On some computers (like mine), even when this option is enabled wheat, leaves and tall grass still don't wave; making this useless. Disabling them will increase FPS.
Step 6:
Make sure you replaced and/or saved the files correctly. Launch minecraft and edit a few options in optifine...
- Graphics set to fast.
- Render distance to tiny. I recommend short. Decreasing the render distance will make the game look awful
- Advanced OpenGL set to Fast or Fancy. EDIT: The framerate improves with this option set to off. Depending on your GPU, this can increase FPS some say.
- Mip mapping should be off. Some say this will improve FPS, but from my experience, this will only make it worse...
- Swamp colors off. This greatly improves FPS
- Better grass and/or snow off. This doesn't improve FPS but only makes it slower.
- Smooth FPS and/or Smooth world Off. This will not help with the mod installed.
- Auto save set to 30 mins.
- Disable some animations and particles. Might help FPS but not sure for me...
Conclusion:
With these tips I run the shaders at around 16-18 average. On superflat, It goes to 24-30 FPS average.
My specs:
Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60Ghz 1.60Ghz
2GB RAM
32 bit
Windows 7
nVidia GeForce GT220
I hope this helps!

TO BOOST FPS BY 4, RUN THE INSTALLER, GET SPECIFIED SHADER, ALSO GET V09 EVEN IF YOU HAVE nVidia, Replace the gbuffers_water.fsh and .vsh in v08 with the ones from v09 (If on v09 no need) Download id_miner's shader files and drag and drop them in your jar. Without replacing the gbuffers_water.fsh and .vsh in the v08 will cause the water to glitch. With the files FPS 19-20. Without the files FPS 15-18.

Yeah so I get ~103 FPS w/ ether - I just did installer
But optfine settings keep getting reverted
I get the focus thing going on, but I want the cool shadows and don't have.
When I use optifine when I do settings like clear water my settings don't take effect, and when they do they go right back ( but the gui on/off stays)
wut do?
EDIT:
also, blur ratio, is like the focus of looking at something close and something far in the background

Oh! Are you sure? You may be confused with depth of field?! BTW maybe you should re install optifine, or something's wrong with your optionsof.txt in the .minecraft folder.

OK, maybe I'm overlooking something really obvious here but this is not working for me.
I started with a clean install, installed OptiFine, made the /shaders directory in minecraft.jar, and dropped in the files from the link. It starts up fine and OptiFine is working but I'm not seeing any difference from the shaders. It just looks like it normally would. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: I'm dumb. Just hadn't installed the 1.4.2 GLSL files from the requirements at the top of the post, lol.

The latest ultra. Ultra has all options of multi-core, smooth and standard.
This is shaders
Did you get sonic ether's shaders?
yah i did
Because you're MAC, just paste the files of the shaders, and create another folder titled "shaders" and paste the .fsh and .vsh files in there.
OK, maybe I'm overlooking something really obvious here but this is not working for me.

This works great. Thanks!
You may have installed it incorrectly, you haven't updated your driver, or you disabled an important feature in the composite and/or final.fsh files.
Thanks! Will update the post once I return from my vacation.
