Are you ever going to show us how to do a world type with more than one biome? We would all really appreciate it very much, I have a mod that depends on this and have been waiting to finish the code for some time now.
OK, I have updated the tutorial to cover using the BiomeCache. My example only does a basic checkerboard of biomes (plains & desert), but it gets the general idea across as to how to deal with it.
I increased the grass blocks generated from the 1 block to a 16x16 platform, with the integration of the server into the client, Minecraft now slightly randomizes your start location, and even with the 16x16 you will still sometimes spawn into the void. They really need to fix this, as it is also causing the occasional spawn inside the ground or inside leaves in the vanilla worlds. Forge has a fix inside the WorldType class called getSpawnFuzz, which controls how big a random area you spawn in.
