Hmm, maybe I should try this out and make the Pacific Northwest, though biomes might be tricky and I would need to flatten things out a bit (2-3 meters IRL = 1 meter in Minecraft) with the Puget Sound's water level being sea level and Lake Washington and Lake Samamish being higher. I think the flattening should more than compensate for smoothing so I doubt I would need to smooth things after that. I wonder how I would do the Mountains?
Greetings, we're setting up a Minecraft map of Atlanta neighborhoods and need some help syncing longitude, altitude and latitude with X,Y,Z on a generated map. We want the hills to be realistic (not too steep) so we can create scale homes on them (1 cubic meter = 1 block).
Uhm.. I have the problem with the very first step, strm to be exact. I load it up, but no grid nor mountain icons appear. I load it from the appropiate kzm files and everything. I do notice that the elevation folder icon is red, and when I try to refresh it, it refuses to work. Is it a Windows 7 problem?
would be fun if someone did this with the whole world =P
If you had a few hundred million or billion to could set up a computer rig of unimaginable power plugged directly in to a fiber optic network or even the Google cloud to and a hight mod that raises the hight limit to practical infinity you could use this tool to recreate the whole world 1:1
Then you could use another few million to create a server that could hold over a million people via dynamic proxy servers and to modify mine craft to get rid of text based chat and implement a local voice chat system and fast transport system and ABRACADABRA you have simulated world created in minecraft.
PS:if you have a few billion spare PM me

Would be awesome. You would also have to mod Minecraft to have a spherical world, however, as a map of the whole world would probably be subjected to the Mercator projection effect
I really like the voice chat idea.

Learn some Java before you mod, and skip over the chapter on ModLoader, straight to MinecraftForge. It's better. Trust me.

I used an image taken from my webcam of a Pokémon Energy card and got this:
Original:
In WorldPaint:
3D view of the star:

ADD: Here is where i am on the map (I'm at the base of the middle star on the snow side, as you can see):
And it is friggin huge! (As you can see, it havent even rendered all the chunks yet x3) :
Map from down on the ground:
The mountains are friggin huge! Omigoshwattefackbarbie-que, i say! (All chunks havent loaded here either, it would take too long and i figured this pic shows enough ):
Map wiev and pic of a little bit of the ground (Render distance set to normal, chunks havent fully loaded anyway XD) (XD I found out how to do after pressing quote on the original post and looking at the code x3 so easy it was)
Map:

That's nice! I really want see how you did that.
~Thanks
Also, that's for the helpful tutorial.

It's easy to build your reputation up, but once you destroy it, it's hard to get it back up.

I'm trying to make a map using Mount Rainier, but something's seriously wrong.
Whenever I try to do anything with my strm_12_03.asc file, whether it be closing buttons or mousing over or even trying to close it, I keep getting this sort of error:
Quote from MicroDEM »
Access violation at address (insert probably-hexadecimal string of letters and numbers, eg. 00A78250) in module microdem.exe. Read of address (insert another letter-number string).
It also happens with other files.
The version number is 16; the build number is 2012.12.20.1
Anyone knows how to fix it?
EDIT: I fixed the problem. Apparently you have to make sure that the file you're selecting is in the C:\mapdata\DEMs directory. OP, make sure you put this in, for the benefit of us uneducated folk.
(All that work, all for the want of a stupid .bmp file.)
I've described the details here in a Freelancer.com post:
http://www.freelancer.com/projects/Cartography-Maps/Minecraft-Cartography-Atlanta-map.html
Document the parameters you set in WorldPainter when generating the Minecraft map.
Thanks, good luck if you're up to the challenge!
