An easier way is to just go to the start menu then type in %appdata% click roaming click .minecraft go to bin and you see minecraft.jar or minecraft just plain old minecraft.
1. Open the start menu
2. Type in "show hidden files" into the search box
3. Click on the "show hidden files and folders" option, should show up under control panel
4. Under "Hidden files and folders", select the option that says; "show hidden files, folders, and drives"
5. Close the folder options window
6. Open the start menu
7. Open "Computer" or "My Computer"
8. Double-click on the hard drive
9. Double-click on the "Users" folder
10. Double-click on the folder with your username
11. Double-click on the "AppData" folder
12. Double-click on the "Roaming" folder
13. Double-click on the ".minecraft" folder
14. Double-click on the "bin" folder
sorry..but why i cannot find ".minecraft" folder???
for some strnge reason none of this advice helped me. i searched my computer and %appdata% showed up, but none of it had anything to do with minecraft. I don't know how or why, but i guess my minecraft.jar folder was misplaced and/or deleted.
i need help i go to the bin file but the only folders in it is "natives" there is an executabl jar file called minecraft is that it? (btw i am using a netbook)
all i see is=
natives:folder
jinput.jar :file

Hey guys! If you're one of those people who just can't stand slow computers and plays on a macintosh as a result, then this will help you a lot, for sure.
Here is a guide to get to the minecraft roaming folder:
1: Command+Shift+G
2:Type in ~/Library (with the tilde) in the spot that opened up.
3:Go to the Application Support folder and open it
4:Find minecraft inside of it and open it
5: Have fun doing what you have been wanting to!
In case anyone was wondering, on a Mac, the process is:
1. Open your home folder. (The folder with your name on it)
2. Open the Library folder inside the home folder. (NOT the Library folder in Macintosh HD, the one in your folder)
3. Open the Application Support folder
4. Open the "minecraft" folder inside Application Support
5. Open the bin folder.
You my good sir, are a lifesaver! I'm using a map trying to get super hostile, and i thank you and your glorious mind.
