I am looking to recruit a staff/team to help me assemble a server with plugins that will replicate the "Goon" Space Station 13. Once all the plugins are customized to fit the theme of the server properly, I will pay to host the server. (anywhere from $50-$100 a month)
*Note* - The server will be running the game just like your typical SS13 round.
If you don't know what SpaceStation 13 is then check the spoiler below.
On my own, I estimate it will take me six months to a year to get all the mechanics working for a Beta Server. If I acquire help it may take anywhere from one month to four. Also the forum for server planning is now up and running, feel free to drop by and post something!
To Do List Key: Haven't Started = In Progress = Completed =
Create Texture Pack
Build Map either through MCEdit or using a terrain generator
Create an airlock open/close mechanism
Learn how to code using Java
Build Code for Water to spread into adjacent air blocks
Create Online Forum for Staff members
--Will be utilizing Spout so that everyone uses the SS13 texture pack.
--98% of the map will be filled with water, which will represent the void of space.
--Mod to give people spacesuits to go out into space and breath.
--Another mod to make it so water spreads to any adjacent air block. (if there is a hull breach, water will flood inside quickly)
Space Station 13
--Airlocks & Blast doors using sticky pistons to open/close hallways.
--Big enough station for 40+ people
--Everything will be powered by redstone mechanisms, giving people the ability to customize doors and systems of the station.
--Will include a custom script for the escape pod, mining shuttle, and cargo shuttle.
--All roles will be provided
--A.I. will be invisible, have godmod, and noclip.
--Players will not be allowed to break blocks unless they have the required item to break the block. (ex. sheers needed to break redstone wire, wrench for table, etc.)
--Players will have an inventory weight, there will be a certain weight that will give you normal movement, going past the normal weight will make you slow (like walking through soul sand) and then going past that limit will make you unable to move.
--Players will be able to steal items from other players by standing next to them and right clicking. Inventory screen will pop up for player and there will be a delay before the chosen item is stolen. Both players have to remain motionless in order for the theft to be successful.
--Players will be given random roles at the start of a round. (engineer, electrician, captain, security, syndicate, etc.) Certain roles will give certain items and access to certain areas.
--Upon Player death there will be a ghost mod that will activate making the dead player invisible. This will let the dead player able to view the map, but will be unable to interact with anything.
--Certain blocks will be reinforced and require different items to remove. Ex. Need a Blowtorch to break a Reinforced Steel Block. Then upon breaking the block it will transform into a into a Steel Block that you will need a screwdriver to break, upon breaking that block it will turn into a Metal Grinder that will need a wrench to break.
--Tracks will work like suction pipe and when a player touches the track he/she will be forced to ride the track until it reaches the end destination.
--Paralysis mod. Works that when hit with the paralysis effect (through a stun gun) the player will be hit with the "lay down in bed" effect for a small period of time. The player will be unable to get up during this paralysis is in effect.
--Pull/Move Mod. Lets you pull/drag players by putting the player into a minecart and then dragging the minecart behind you.
--LocalChat will be enabled. You will only be able to hear things people say or do if you are a certain distance away.
Sounds cool eh? If you are interested in helping please post below or send me a PM.
List of roles needed for team/staff:
Texture Pack/Player Skin Artist
Redstone Engineers (If you are really good with redstone mechanics!)
Architect for buildings/asteroids
Writer (for help with writing things, descriptions, details, etc.)
Creative Thinker (help come up with ideas for the server, or concepts)
Really at this point even if you are just interested in helping but have no experience in any of those fields please contact me and I might be able to find an alternative role for you! :smile.gif:
And in other news, I have decided in order for everything in the map to run smooth I had to triple the size of the SS13 Map. One tile on the normal SS13 map represents a 3x3 area on the Minecraft map. This helps leave plenty of room to engineer redstone mechanics, place furniture, decorate, etc.
Hopefully I will have the skeleton of the map finished within two weeks. (just making the walls/rooms and nothing else) Then I will have to start wiring redstone into every nook and cranny. I want fully functioning doors, firelocks, computers, dispensers, light, batteries, etc.
A couple of big ideas that I have in mind is to require signs to be powered in order to use. (so they will function as computers) Also torches need redstone to be powered. (might be hard to code)
I'm not sure what I am going to do with water right now. I was initially planning on using "water" as the void in space. I would have made a mod to where water "source" blocks spreads into adjacent air blocks. I am now considering lava to represent the void of space since I just built the bathrooms on the map and I am using water to make them function. If I make the water = space and there is water inside the bathrooms (as there is now) it would spread everywhere. Or I wonder if it's possible to make a third liquid without too many problems... Well regardless I'm not going to be tampering with any code for a while until the map is finished being built so it should give me plenty of time to think.
Just wanted to update this thread as to the current situation.
A lot of stuff has happened these past few months. I still have the desire and wish to work on this mod, but I know it is going to require a lot of devotion on my side. So, since I haven't really found any coders, artists, I have resorted to teaching myself how to do these things. I've been learning how to sprite and code using Java, with my free time. Of course I am nowhere near mastering either one, but it helps. I have a semi-functional texture pack for SS13. (just the blocks, not the items) Building the station itself still isn't complete. I stopped construct on the station to experiment making some of the asteroids/asteroid fields nearby. Progress on it looks good so far. :smile.gif:
As for as learning2code goes, I am using the "thenewboston's" java tutorial videos on youtube. I have eclipse downloaded and have gotten as far as his 20th video on learning java. (that's almost halfway! :biggrin.gif: ) I hope to have his introduction videos finished and learned by the end of this month. Then I will move on to his intermediate videos, then start attempting to code minecraft plugins! I do expect my first few plugins to not be flawless, but as long as it works I won't complain...
That's about it for now. I do need to do research on coding using Sprout. I'm not sure if it's the same as coding a plugin using bukkit but time will tell.
This is a good opportunity for you to have a competition.., whoever can make the best space station using your texture pack wins, this will allow for people in the community to participate in this more and give you a break from actually making the space station, so you can concentrate on the mechanics of the whole thing, and finding a hosting service.
Please think dearly about this cos i am really bored aswell and would love to help :laugh.gif:
I have some good news for the people following this thread. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I now have a lot more free time on my hands than I wanted. So I should become more focused on this project since I've got more spare time. I'm expecting to have the walls of the station completed by the end of next week. Then I will start decoration, after that it will take some time to hook up redstone wire to the lights and doors. Hopefully in a month or two it should start to look at least playable. I still haven't figured out what I want to do with maintenance shafts.
As for plugins, I'm planning on making them in this order:
1. Water spread plugin (water source blocks spread into adjacent air tiles)
2. Block deconstruction plugin (when a reinforced wall gets destroyed it turns into a wall, then wall into grinder, etc.)
3. Redstone light plugin (lights need to be powered by redstone to turn on)
4. Inventory system plugin (this will be hard...)
5. Random class assign plugin (sets people up as captain, traitor, janitor, etc.)
6. Blood plugin (when damage is taken, blood is splattered on the floor)
More to come as new ideas form.
Note* expect a screenshot of the new station in a few days.
@Evi1 - Yes that sounds like a good idea. If anyone would like to, they can work on building Zeta or the mining outpost if they are interested. Send me a PM or post here to confirm so nobody else works on it, to avoid wasting time.
I re-added the Texture Pack and Map because someone said the download's weren't working. They are both located below.
Building on Minecraft using SS13's map is constructed on a x3 scale. One block on the main station/Zeta equates to 3x3 blocks on MC. I highly suggest using MCEdit for building otherwise progress will be really slow. If you do happen to take up the challenge of building Zeta or the mining outpost, please follow the texture pack and use the main station map as a guide. If you need more info, please contact me or post here.
After working nonstop for days, I finally finished mapping the walls and floors...
Behold, SPACE STATION 13!
Expect the map to be uploaded by the end of the week. I just need to add some finishing touches and then you can be free to grief explore the station. I recommend using the texture pack I uploaded otherwise it will look pretty out of place.
Ok, I have more good news. Recently someone just sent me a PM about getting a server started with my SS13 map. The spec's of his server are really good and he's offering to split the cost between me, himself, and another admin. (which should be reasonable)
If all goes well, there may be a server up soon!
In the meantime, here is a screenshot of the new set of doors/airlocks I made! They are in this order, Security, Normal, Engineer, Command, Maintenance.
