I know i am new as far as the posting goes. As well as being a total noob at programing. But you could make only towns and other populated areas with health regeneration. It would be another incentive for people not to spread out. Ive been looking for a good moderated server so i realy love the idea of a server on this map. you could make a specific color the houses in a town. It would definetly make it less in your face.

Actually, one of the mods I'm already using has a feature that would allow me to make a specific area and/or peoples homes health regeneration areas. So we could make peoples homes heal or we could make a sort of first-aid station somewhere that people could go to.
Nice. You could make a short rest in bed regenerate health. It might be easyer. Is there any way to keep track or the trafic in a specific chunk? If so, you might be able to set an area that has les trafic to reset or start removing player made blocks. And areas more traveled could be now built on. This could make the player aspect of the world seem more time bound, leaving nature as the only thing un erodeable, jest as it should be. And it would help slowly erase ghost towns. Just an idea.

So for a day or two, admins may be raining lava onto buildings and attempting to figure out how to undo/prevent such acts and may accidentally spawn 1000 cows instead. Once we're happy that we are all happy and the admins know wtf they are doing,
Timezones and diffrent timestandards make me confused... is that 9-10 in the morning CST or 21-22 in the evening CST? Hope its not in the middle of night for me because right now I have thursday midday CEST 12.30... and CST have thursday 04.30 in the morning... *more confused*

No you don't need to install any mods. You will need the server name or IP and that should do it. :smile.gif: I was wondering about the time as well. I am on the East Coast so it's either 12pm or 12 am for me. :smile.gif:
As a systems administrator for a hosting company, access to personal servers is a fringe benefit I have and being a lover of this map, would love to run a server for us all with it.

I am looking forward to this so much that I jumped up and down screaming like an overexited child on christmas when I read Brainspackels first post. But:
I have never played multiplayer, never PvP or any of the things you guys mention, on ANY game. I dont even know what whitelist is. I have played a total of maybe 20 minutes on other than peaceful since I started in December, every minute was sheer terror. Even the cave- and portal sounds makes my heart pound and I prefer branch mining to spelunking (yes, on peaceful).
With this in mind, I have a question: is there a way to make an area free from hostile mobs? *blushing*
Also, I wont be any help in planning this. But since I am kind of controlling when it comes to style and order I have a suggestion. Maybe we could, either agree of a building style, or agree to have diffrent styles in diffrent places, like for example a city with modern buildings, a town with western style, a rural english willage or futuristic airborn settlement. I find it very disturbing if things are chaotic and mismatching. I will also be happy to help with landscaping, planning roads and buildingspots.

Forgot to reply to this last night... I will look into the possibility of having certain mob-free zones, that way we can try to appeal to both those who want mobs and those who don't.

I believe that WorldGaurd can log that sort of thing. I'll take a deeper look at it.

I disagree with the eroding ghost towns. I like the idea of limitless expanses of unused buildings, to show where we were before. It would be fun to continuously build up a neat world and see "Where we were as peasants" when we started. Stuff like that.

true. You could have a admin turn it off for your structure. And as regards for the ghost towns, im talking months to totaly revert back to nature. One month; noticeable abence of roofs and some wall. Two months; ghostly reminece of foundations and redused structures of harder matirial. Im thinking you could make a building out of brick or stone that can better resist time. Metals shouldnt vanish. But dirt, wool and wood should be the first things to go. With cobblestone next. I understand your consern for large complecated builds, and you seem like somone capible of making such things. But alot of people, including brainspackle, want to preserve the nature aspect of this world in the sky. Having ghost towns and ruins would be the very best way of preserving it without being ultra tight on building limitations. And new towns could be created as new land is discovered, cuz afterall, it is minecraft :tongue.gif:

I am just a humble Noob, but I had the thought that after towns, there should be the option to purchase a big tract of land and claim it as your own personal kingdom. On this piece of land you would have admin privileges.(Like protecting blocks and such)

This server should also have a recommended texture pack, or maybe recommend that you use the default MineCraft textures, becuase some builds look like an eyesore when you are using a different texture pack.

I purpose that we should have a police force that keeps people in check while upholding laws, unless in the wild region, where it’s anarchy free-for-all, and people can pay in-game currency to make a protected area for a town. If a town is started unofficially, it’s not protected. THe police can only enforce in towns that are official, so that’s another reason for buying the official town plot. I would be happy to help with anything.
Something came up and things are going to be a bit delayed... Still looking good for tonight, but probably a few hours later than I had originally thought.
