I'm looking to rent a server and rch, you seem to be the kind of person that I need. My biggest concern right now is location. Will the servers being in Orlando have a large impact on players that will be playing in southern California? If so do you see any plans for locations on the west coast?
We have customers who connect from Hawaii to Scotland and even a customer in AUS who have no problems with their connections. You'll be just fine in Southern CA.
You're welcome to shoot me an email at [email protected] if you have any more questions or want to chat about your plans. :smile.gif:
Our newest node is online and ready to fill up! We're going to be pushing a nice promo here shortly.. and you can always get 10% off your first month if you check us out on GSPRating.com, here: http://www.gsprating.com/minecraft-cm-server-hosting/
Of course, if you do use that promotion we'd love it if you'd leave us an honest review after using our service for a while. :smile.gif:
We've now enabled our affiliate system for all existing and new customers! If you'd like to make a few extra bucks, feel free to shoot us a message or login to your client area to get started right away. :smile.gif:
I am sorry to hear you're having issues, but we'd be glad to have you on.
That plan should do just fine, I can't really speak for the plugins since there are far too many of them being made and some by not so stellar programmers, but I don't see that list posing any unique problems. We do offer a 5 day refund policy so if you're not satisfied with the performance or any other aspect of the service you're more than welcome to request that.
As for your questions:
Our current servers are as follows: 2x AMD 6128 Octacore Processors @ 2.0GHZ w/HT3 (16 physical, 32 'virtual'/threads) with 32GB DDR3 ECC Ram, 4x 15,000RPM SCSI drives in RAID10 running on an Adaptec raid card (not software raid).
If you were to purchase today, we'd place you on our newest node which has < 10 customers on it, but will likely be capped at around 30 - we have 3 other servers running this configuration and this number of customers , 5 running a 'smaller' config, both small 5-10 person servers and some large, 60+ person servers all running smoothly under the virtualized setup. We have not encountered any customers with claims of us 'overselling' or their purchased/guaranteed resources not being available. Even on a full system, our disks read/write speeds stay near 200MB/s and the processors still have plenty of power left in them even at capacity.
As for maintenance or downtimes, since we've moved to these new systems we've experienced exactly 1 actual outage, which ended up being a switch issue with the datacenter and it was resolved within 2 hours. We have active monitoring on all of our servers (Nagios/OpenNMS) and are alerted at the moment any set of resources seem overloaded or go down.. if this does happen, we usually resolve/communicate it on a customer by customer basis but since todays outage, we are looking at better ways of communicating this in the future.. if it does happen.
As for bandwidth, we don't really have any kind of set limits per sever, we more look at the node as a whole and if we are seeing excessively high amounts of throughput we'll investigate which user it is and handle it on a case by case basis. Since there's such a difference between a 60+ person servers usage and a 5 person servers usage, we'd rather look at the bigger picture on a per node basis instead of nitpicking it on a per customer basis... so unless you're transferring terabits per month, you shouldn't have any issues.
Phew, that was quite a lot and I'm sure more than you were asking for, but I kinda got onto a roll there. If you have any other questions or would like to chat 1 on 1, feel free to shoot us an email at support at minecraft.cm or give us a call, our toll free number is on our site. :smile.gif:
Welcome to the both of you! We're glad to have you aboard and extremely happy to hear things are running smooth so far.
If either of you need assistance with anything along the way, of course, just give us a shout through email or a ticket in your client area. :smile.gif:
Yay! A server provider that doesn't have a list of complaints! YAY!
Okay ... so, my family uses a private server with Bukkit, Heroic Death and mcMMO. Are those plugins you support?
Also, FTP access would be great, but not SUPER important.
Could you post screenshots of the control panel? We're not super "comfortable" in the console environment. I just want to make sure there's plenty of controls through a web interface.
SkizzlePig - we offer complete root access to your own VPS (running the Linux Operating System) and you can install any plugin, mod or other application you want. We don't offer a centralized "control panel", but you are welcome to install one on your own. McMyAdmin runs great, MCDash and MinecraftCP are some others you could look into. Controlling the server through the command line interface is really not difficult at all, you'd only have to remember maybe 4-5 commands in total, to be able to do anything you'd need to with Minecraft.
Hello. I am interested in a Tier 1 or 2 server, and would like to know some things first.
Does it run OpenVZ or Xen?
How much CPU is dedicated/burst?
How many players can the servers handle, with about 5 CraftBukkit plugins?
Would it be possible to me to get the server files?
That is it. I hope to be able to say I am a happy customer shortly. The feedback I have seen so far is encouraging, and it looks like a great hosting service.
All of our systems are run on Xen virtualization with 2x 2ghz cores per VPS, there is no 'burst' with our setups. All of our player slot recommendations are on the site, but those are based off of vanilla setups. Since the development and programming quality of Craftbukkit plugins varies so much, I can't really give you an accurate estimation. Most all systems even with craftbukkit and plugin still run similar slots as the recommendations we've listed.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'possible to get the server files' ? You get full root SSH/SFTP access so you have the ability to view/edit/modify/upload/download all files on the system at your leisure.
If you have any other questions please let me know, either a reply here, PM or email to support at minecraft.cm would be great. We also do offer a 5 day refund policy, so if for any reason you're not satisfied with the performance, you're welcome to utilize that.
Thank you. This is the fastest service I have ever encountered. And yes, that is what I meant by the system files, like the region files, etc. This looks great, and hopefully, I can afford a server soon. Thanks for your help.
Pretty impressive feedback in this thread 6 pages and no negative comments I like what I see.
In the coming month or two I am hoping to be able to get a public VPS minecraft server going so far you guys seem to be the best choice especialy considering I have no linux exsperence at all and it seems you are willing ot help with that as well. I look forward to hopefully being a customer soon and running a server!
(side note: rch and I joined on the same day 17-november 10 ... yay for coincedences!)
@Alcyius: You're very welcome and thanks so much for the compliments. It's always nice to get feedback like that and be reminded that the hard work we put into making sure our customers (and potential customers) are happy, is working. :biggrin.gif:
@alexfire: You're absolutely right, we will gladly help you take your first baby steps into the wonderful world of Linux. We've assisted many customers who have had 0 experience and are now enthralled with learning about a new system and loving it. If you have any questions prior to picking up a system from us, please feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to help.
@Thewind100: Thank you, though I don't think that your blogspot advertisement has a place in our thread.. we appreciate the kind words regardless.
These guys are the best!
I have started a server recently with a different hosting company and they did the job but the server could only get so far until it needed another hosting service to expand.
After hours and hours of being in the square-eyed cyberspace I decided to come to the MinecraftForum and look under their listed hosting.
I opened up several tabs, making a list of the features on my notepad. I had to contact them a bit to find out a few other things and they were answered within half an hour, I wasn't even with their hosting yet! I consulted with the admins on my server and we decided the minecraft.cm was definitely the way to go. A few more emails went by when we finally put our order in. It was responded to with the hour and I had full control of my server. I went right away to install CraftBukkit and the necessary plugins. Fortunately, the CPU and RAM could handle it along with 20 player slots.
With the information I have, this is the best hosting available. You can see the features for yourself and take a look through this thread, all the questions have been answered.
The server was a bit daunting at first, using SSH with FTP to control the server. On their website they had tutorials for the beginner SSH user. I got my head around quite quickly with the help of the tutorials. After that, I installed milkAdmin (A free control panel) to look over my server with ease and it works a treat.
I just wanted to take a minute to thank every one for the kind words. We work hard to provide a top notch service to our customers, and its nice to know you are all satisfied.
The positive feedback on this thread is really convincing me to come over here! :smile.gif:
Just a few things though - I've really had a lot of issues with laggy servers and such. Is there any chance I could have a play on that test server you guys have, to see what it's like? I know it's not currently available, but it would be cool if I could.
Are there also any plans on getting a few US West servers? I'm from New Zealand, and the difference between US West and East is typically ~100ms for me. I did read about that you guys have had players/customers from Australia with no complaints, which is why I'd like to see if I could hop on that test server if possible.
