Note: I am a female. I'm not a guy looking to hook up.
So, being a girl, going to Minecon, I was wondering what the ratio of women to men is. I've been to a couple other "nerdy" conventions like DragonCon, and I always felt awkward. I'm not going to cosplay, and all the girls are really saw are what I call "bikini armor" warriors.
So I was just wondering how many girls are going, I just want to know if I will be the odd one out.
Also, If anyone has been to Minecon 2012 of 2011, what was the ratio there, and also the general attitude from men to women?
At MineCon 2012, there was definably more boys than girls, but I was quite surprised at how many females did show up, tho I really got the feeling there was more 'parents' than 'players'...
I never really heard any kinda of problems between the gender divide, if you watch the Costume contest there seemed to be a lot more girls than boys taking part in that.
The big surprise for me tho was I really got the feeling there was more 'parents' than 'players'. Or maybe just as someone at the older end of the Demographic I was just surprised at how many 'adults' had shown up, specialy when all the public servers I've been on seem to be full of 'kids'..
First off I find it disrespectful to refer to me as female. I am a woman. Men are not called males. We call es female because some people don't like the term for the dog.
I go to PAX East and there are more men than women but there are a good amount of women there. Granted their costumes this last year were almost all Moxxi but men and women dress up. PAX has taken a bit of a hypocritical stance toward display and women's outfits so I didn't see anything ridiculous. Plus Mincraft doesn't exactly have a sexy look to it.See yu can't say the Bword here either. So don't disrespect yourself thread poster! (sorry writing this from phone.)

Adults have access to "disposable income" on a much more frequent basis. Most adults look for private servers removed from the typical public nonsense I believe.
I agree. I play on a private server more than public. And we don't have to worry about people griefing or stealing. However, there are not many people on it.

Yeah Ditto, but apart from the odd incomer who does not really stay, its just two of us playing, it is nice to not have to worry about being murdered and having all your stuff stolen when your AFK

I tried to see if I could recruit a few adults on here that just needed a server to play on but it didn't seem to work. So I recruit outside of the forums like friends. Right now we have 4 of us currently playing and 2 people long term afk.
The majority of people at Minecon are probably going to be younger teenage boys and their parents. While there certainly are a lot of older people and a lot of girls, I can't picture them representing any significant population at the event
how did you get these figures? I tried to see if I could recruit a few adults on here that just needed a server to play on but it didn't seem to work. So I recruit outside of the forums like friends. Right now we have 4 of us currently playing and 2 people long term afk. I
I recruited here and on reddit w/ success. I also made connections w/ people on a relatively cool public fan server for JL2579. When the previous admin started to turn it to crap they all moved over here. It takes a lot of work to find good people for a server that is a small vanilla one. One BIG tip to weed out crap: Require TeamSpeak/voice interview. I was able to save time and energy by doing this.
That is my page I used to recruit, but it looks a LOT better now than my first work. Formatting and being thorough is very good at weeding out people. Also make sure to check their name w/ the ban link servers page provides and ALWAYS Google "NAME"+"minecraft" and you'd be amazed at what that turns up. You can find a LOT of age differences between their posts showing that #1: they aren't the right age #2: they are clearly going to lie to get what they want(thief incoming alert there).
Most of the people at Minecon will be young children, who are going with there parents. There are some older players going to Minecon but the majority of the people going will probably be parents and children.
