I got an error today, that prevents me from getting on all Servers. Before I try to get on, I always see that there's 0 people on, regardless of how popular the server is. And when I try to get on, it just gives me a really long error, starting with Failed to Login:java.io.IOException.
If it matters, I just made a Minez account that required me to state my Minecraft account and password. I don't know if it's relevent or not, but I might as well say it.
All 3 forums have users complaining about the same issue. Check http://help.mojang.com/ to see if the servers are up and hopefully the sessions server won't be flooded with requests for too long.

There is an issue with the sessions server. You should skim through the other threads about this.
