No duh they're going to court. The Quake 3 tournament wasn't a "proposed solution" intended for "better PR," it was a slap in the face to Bethesda saying "We're not taking you seriously."
well this debacle is absolutely retarded, idc what the outcome is as long as i still get to play minecraft, however this won't sway me from buying skyrim, i've waited far too long for it to come out and im gonna play it cuz it looks fun. all in all they should just drop this stupid argument as it means nothing and will not benefit Bethesda even if they do win.
This reminds me so much of Bethesda's other on going lawsuit over the Fallout MMO with Interplay... They must really have the diamonds to shell out for multiple lawsuits--or just underestimate Mojang's legal capabilities.
They could also be suing them for the very likely success Mojang will have. They're affraid of the competition; but also probably because they have to protect there poor sense of trademark. I see Mojang winning because there has ben many court cases of someone losing because they tried to sue someone over a single and very common word. Personally, I love bethesda and the amazing games they come out with, but if they win, I will lose respect for them.
What about the high amounts of money they have? What is bethesda going to do? Bribe the judge?
I'm not completely on any ones side here, though I do see Mojang having the edge.
I just want to see Zenimax and Bethesda lose this one hard. I dont much care for Notch's ideals on this one, but someone needs to take Zenimax down a notch.
I must be the only person who thinks that this is not a battle Mojang can win. Bethesda has a fleet of lawyers that win stupid battles like these all the time in court simply by virtue of fiscal and numerical advantage. Sure the lawsuit's retarded (and anyone looking at it outside a courtroom can see that) but Bethesda will wheel out their Harvard-educated legal team who will spout some ******** about patents, the judge will buy it, and suddenly Mojang is in a whole mess of trouble (financial and legal). It's not hard to see how badly this could go for Mojang.
It's like the big bully pushing you down in elementary school. Sure, you can push him back and start a fight you're probably gonna lose, but it's probably better in the long run to get up, brush yourself off, and just walk away.

AHAHAHA That's the best joke I've heard today! Like Bethesda has a chance! They don't own the word scrolls and they're really just being a pain in the butt because now Notch has to focus on this and not developing the game!

Goddamn these greedy lawyers and corporate Douches. I feel bad for Notch AS WELL as the Beth Dev team. They will lose sales over this and put their hard work to shame
I don't think Bethesda can win. They can probably out-appeal Mojang, though, and force them to settle simply because of the cost of the trial. I don't know where the courts are being held, but I know in the US the system is highly vulnerable to corporate abuse.
What's stupid is most people know the new game as "Skyrim", and even Elder Scrolls fans call it that. I'm not getting where the confusion would come in. I'd hope Bethesda PR department would realize that picking on a beloved indy developer isn't going to be in the company's best interest.
They are just numb in the bum over this because they couldn't make a cool game like Notch and no will they ever. All people want these days is to sue one another just to gain money and because they can. People and companies need to grow up. Wooopie do dah they used the word "scrolls"...all they have to do is say don't use it and Ta Dah!

Quick someone tell Bethesda that Google helped in making the Dead Sea Scrolls
available on the internet. They might want to get their lawyers to sue both Google
and oh say, I dont know.... humanity's past otherwise I may just confuse the
Dead Sea Scrolls with their stupid video game.
jagex the creators of runescape tried to sue a bot making company for using the 2 letters RS but didn't succeed cause they didn't copyright the letters all over the world being a UK located company so their copyright only stood out to UK and not the bot making company that was located in the US
this is whats gonna happen notch is from where Sweden if im not mistaken? and elder scrolls company is what in US they so don't have the word scrolls copyrighted in the location of where notch lives and his company is located so it wont work they will fail get laughed out of court and lose customers and money and notch will climb the ranks of dam look at his game lets go make a deal with him his game will blow the **** up with ideas and graphics and coders from all around the world and be the game of the century without even trying LOL
