I wasn't aware that Mojang was trying to trademark the word scrolls across all fields of media at the time of the post. Probly going to be looking more in depth. So far all of the info I've managed to get is from the minecraft forums and there *might* be some bias here. An outside resource with complete details of the lawsuit would be helpful.
Or when somebody concisely explains what the hells going on, all the first post says is *they are sueing them for using the scrolls name and they wanted to play quake*. Well im not saying that bethesda has a right to have a law suite because of "scrolls" which is a common word. But it was coming to notch, he should have expanded (hired more people) not like he's a millionaire or anything (sarcasm). More people, more game production, more game production more games!, more games=more money coming in, and they wouldn't be the "little guy" and perhaps they would be suing bethesda on something ridiculous. And in a sense of karma notch has gotten lazy with development.
Soooo many kids think Notch is such a sweet, innocent developer who is being bullied here when it was HE who wanted to trademark the word "Scrolls" on ALL Media types.

I am going to make a game called "TES". It will stand for TheEpicScrolls. It comes out 11.11.11. You think I will get sued? I have this great idea though, it's open world. Am I doing good with it so far?
I am making other games too, like this one where you carry a gun in a first person perspective, but i am afraid I might get sued, because the first person perspective-the idea is already taken. So...hrmm..maybe third person? idk. Is FPS trademarked? O know, now i am giving them ideas.
I don't know why Bethesda insists that a word is something to sue about. I can kind of see where they are coming from, Scrolls and Elder Scrolls, but I don't think anyone would really mix them up.

Wow, there's so much hyperbole and talking without knowing all the facts here. I read the kotaku post and all it gave me was a snippet of the alleged trademark and a lot of unnecessary vitriol toward notch. These things are easy to take out of context and I would really like to be able to see the whole thing before making any judgments on it.
However, for my own biased opinion, I prefer Mojang. I played Morrowwind and it kinda sucked. I also played Oblivion and it was sort of better, I guess. The Bethesda games I've played are nothing to write home about. I would choose Minecraft over Skyrim any day simply for the fact I'll get a lot more mileage out of it.
The excuse that Bethesda "has" to protect its own ass due to enforcing its own branding seems more of an argument against the trademark system than Mojang. Words...sheesh.
Protip: get the whole story before claiming anathema on anyone.
