Actually I'm fine with him copying from mods, means I don't have to go and download them and "install" them. I'd rather it just be in the game by default.
That's well and good but how long did he spend reinventing the wheel? It's nice not having to mod it in, but why not spend the time on making something better and Jeb using what came from the mod and credit the creator? And who knows, maybe he did steal the idea and pretended like he spent all that time creating it?
This is great! Just the tiniest change of blocks in the game can change the way builders create things! I also think there should be upside-down slabs.
And yet another feature ripped from mod. Really Jeb_, invent something yourself!
Oh, stop your complaining.
The issue with this is, that modders have done pretty much every darn idea that is possible to do already. Therefore anything Mojang adds is a "ripoff". At least is adding features isn't he? Stop complaining.
" ...a large volume of the update was dedicated to engine tweaks, file format optimization and other updates to improve the overall performance of the game." Shouldn't this kind of stuff been done before Minecraft was officially released? I really feel like the game is still in beta. I still love Minecraft but I am a little disappointed. :c
No. Jeb even gave a speech at a game development conference about this very issue, pointing out that limits in the file format done earlier were in fact a source of many of these problems. Nothing against Notch, but this is very tough stuff to be working on, and optimizing the file format is hardly the stuff to be casually working on. It certainly isn't the kind of thing to work on just prior to releasing a "gold version" of a software package.
Minecraft was working just fine without reworking the file format, and making that drastic of a change introduces more bugs than you can imagine. So much in the game is "hard coded" with the presumptions of the old file format that it doesn't surprise me that a whole bunch of bugs are showing up now in terms of lighting, mobs spawning in strange places, and "missing" cave systems.
That Mojang cares at all to try and improve the game on such a fundamental level is very impressive to me, and shows that they have a commitment to continued improvement of the game. Instead of being disappointed, you ought to be thankful that they are taking the time to rework the game to improve performance rather than expecting you as the game player to simply throw better computer hardware at the game. It is also showing that the developers at Mojang are the professionals that they claim to be and really do care about the game playing community.
wow, it's reeally weird that people get so overly choked up about a simple addition like this, I'm more like WAH IRON GOLEMS (that don't look like they have a pumpkin for a head) DUH DUH DUH DUH!!! ARMY OF GOLEMS

MrPlasmaCosmos... Dont cross me, my imagination might explode all over you.
Read the "terms of service agreement" for Minecraft. Essentially.... if you publish a mod in public, Mojang is free to do whatever they want to do with your mod and use your code in any way that they please, without even acknowledging your work or especially offering any sort of compensation for your effort. Generally they have acknowledged contributors and put their names on as "additional programming by" in the game credits, but legally speaking they don't even have to do that.
If you don't like those terms, don't be modding Minecraft. Realize that anything you are doing is essentially a donation to Mojang. If you wanted to be an ass about it, you might be able to stop Mojang from using your mod, but then they could go back after you for violating the terms of service and kill your mod as well from a much stronger position legally speaking and even go after you for copyright infringement.
No, the terms don't say that (quite the opposite, actually). And even if they did, no, they can't.
They are free to take ideas, but they can't take code unless it's released under a license where they can.
And no, they couldn't "kill your mod" and "go after you for copyright infringement" either. Standalone mods, while meant to be applied to an original source, aren't derivations. Provided it isn't just tweaked copy-pastes of Minecraft's original files, the code is the modder's creation and belongs to them.

The problem is that there is no problem. This is virtually impossible because in order to have a problem you must not have a problem, but if you don't have a problem then you do have a problem then you no longer have a problem.
shits gonna be gettin fancy up in dis *****.
