You could never fix items with a crafting bench...I'm pretty sure of that.
Even if that's so (and I don't remember) you could in your inventory 2x2 grid until this newest snapshot anyway. That's a fairly key change IMO that has been needed but I find it odd it wasn't mentioned in the notes!
Edit: Also all of my items frames have smoke coming out of them in the upper left and lower right corners - is anyone else getting that?
OMG how can anyone say this update is awsome? This SUCKS! Just stop with the rubbish snapshots mojang and actually add content. Yes, CONTENT. Commands don't count. Stop making this update a mapmakers dream and focus on survival more. The last 4 snapshots have just been changes changes and changes, no content. We need mobs, ocean life, structures, ores, and of course volcanoes and red dragons, and yet they continue to make pointless (in my opinion) changes. Pathetic mojang!
All of that content will come when the plugin API arrives. You will have more content than you have any idea what to do with when that happens and the mod/plugin scene explodes. So the more they work on this 'boring' backend stuff the faster you will get your content overload.

I personally think it's kinda useful (now I can tell what x and z are without moving), but the colors COULD be a little softer on the eyes... (edit) or maybe have the regular cursor's negative effect, and with a little x, y, or z on the end of each axis.

I am making a personal adventure map for a friend who is visiting next week. Spectate mode would of made my life easier with trying to watch him die *ahem* play. Also the particle command would of been useful. Oh well got to do it the old fashion way

This is a bug that came from the fix of a different bug. MC-46715
Does spectator mode cause villagers to do something? The villager I was viewed the world with started to throw bread around the place and it took me a while to realize that it probably came from the villager.
I love the cool stuff that is going to be in Minecraft 1.8! =-D
PS: Can you guys please add Stone and Cobblestone Lanterns to Minecraft?
Something that can be crafted like Jack-O-Lanterns. But uses Stone and Cobblestone instead of Pumpkins.
