However, no other pickaxe in the game is a "notched" pickaxe, it is in an out-of-the-way location that plenty of people will not notice unless they try to get up there, and it has a unique enchantment that no other item in the game has, involving Smithing(which is a big part of what you do in MC) and Lightning damage. The effect is also the only one I know of that boosts smithing and can be applied to a weapon.
To say that this isn't at least a reference to Notch and Minecraft is almost like saying that the things like fishysticks, the Star Wars cave, Meteor Slime, and Pop Je's remains in Morrowind don't reference anything.
You people are aware that Bethesda loves hiding things like this in their games, right?
Before you repeat that same "it was in Oblivion" message, I want you to prove it. None of the Elder Scrolls wikis have any record of a notched pickaxe prior to Skyrim.
i dont mean to troll, so im sorry if thats what this is taken as, but my goodness has the minecraft community diminished sense i first started playing minecraft, and started getting somewhat involved with the community...
first, those who claim the "Notched pickaxe" was in previous TES games, ask yourself before you post, do i know this to be fact, did i see this in game, or am i uttering words written by trolls on other sites just to make myself look as if i have more video game knowledge than others. if you feel so sore about it, go find proof that the "Notched pickaxe" existed in TES before skyrim.
and onto another subject, bethesda softworks and bethesda game studios are not the same people, they dont have the same jobs. the bethesda that took mojang to court was the publishing side of the company, and regardless the love the bethesda development team might have for minecraft, they didn't have any say whether or not their publishing company sued mojang or not. (i am not stating they love minecraft as a fact, i am stating it from previous posts claiming it so)
why is it that i feel like there is a pointless argument here, oh yeah, because there is (i guess thats where someone welcomes me to the Internets, haha), alot of you (by no means all of you) are making a big deal out of nothing, so, lets be on our marry way, go play minecraft and or skyrim, and enjoy either of these beautiful games we have infront of us...
Finally, someone listens. Ive read all 12 pages of this post, and every time i read a "Hurr durr it was in Oblivion" or "Notched items were on Oblivion herp derp", i sigh in disappointment. Less and less people read and make stupid claims. How many posts have we seen that have proof of no Notched Pickaxe in Oblivion or any of those games? I'd say 4-5 atleast with actual proof. How many posts have we seen saying there is a Notched Pickaxe in Oblivion with proof (a notched PICKAXE, not cobalt axe or some other crap like that, a PICK AXE)? I've seen a grand total of 0 with proof, about 2-3 with proff of notched axes, but 0 of notched pickaxes, with about 50 saying it existed with no proof. This doesn't necessarily make it an Easter Egg, but what has defined Easter Eggs? They are usually hard to spot, hard to find, and theres only 1 most of the time. how many Notched Pickaxes are in Skyrim? From what i've heard, one. Where is that one Notched Pickaxe located? The top of a giant mountain. Now this is what makes it a bit more obvious. What items are found around the pickaxe? None. The item is obviously an extra in teh game, requiring you to climb a mountain to get to it,and it being the only item at the top of said mountain. Yes, notch is a word that is used to describe something with a triangle like mark at the end of it, but look at the model on the screenshot. skyrim looks to be a very highly detailed game, and i see no notch at the end of that pickaxe.
TL:DR Obviously a reference due to lack of a Notch on teh pickaxe's design, Bethesda plays minecraft and enjoy the game, and they enjoy putting homages to even movies in tehir games, why not one from another game?

I really hope this is a reference and not just a coincidence it's also important to note that Bethesda and the Bethesda publishing company are two different branches. So even though some of Bethesda might not be too fond of Minecraft, it's possible that the people that made Skyrim are very against the lawsuit and love Minecraft I hope Bethesda and Mojang do some more references and have fun with the games and enjoy how they can both influence each other in the sandbox genre of gaming
12 pages of immature people not knowing what they are saying. Yes Notched is a word that means something "Jagged or breaking", but most likely bethesda most likely put this in to make a refrence to minecraft. If its the only one in the entire game, then it most likely is an easter egg, if

through out all of the 12 pages there hasn't been a single refrence to support that the notched pickaxe is in oblivian. I for one have not played oblivian or any of the elder scrolls, but I have played fallout. And I know that Bethesda LOVES easter eggs. so this is most likely an easter egg.

Yes, pickaxes were in other TES games. Yes, "notched" is a word to describe something with notches in it. No, no other pickaxe has such a high value, fortifies smithing, or does lighting damage. Or is on the tippy-top of the highest mountain in the game.
@seahn
Exactly! I'm making fun of the situation. Mojang suing Bethesda for using "Notched" is about as logical as Bethesda's Publishing side suing Mojang for using the word "Scrolls". It makes no sense, which is why i don't think Bethesda will win their case. The people arguing over it missed the point. The satirical side about the whole thing is we all know Notch will never sue them, because he knows he don't really have a case, and he likes Bethesda. Meanwhile we have a big company on the other end of the spectrum who's already tried lol. This IMO should give Notch higher ground. Seems like companies today are so eager to smash each other over IP rights they become blindsided by their own stupidity.

Hello, do you need help with your eyes ? Because it seem you forgot to read that the Notched Pickaxe is only in Skyrim and not Oblivion. I suggest you to go see your optometrist because you really need help, I even think you are almost blind.

If you actually read it, it only has reference to Skyrim, and i think "games" is just a typo. But idk im not the one who said it
Elder Scrolls Wiki claims it was in Oblivion and Morrowind, but UESP has no trace of it outside of Skyrim. And UESP's a more reliable source.
Beyond that, there's absolutely zero mention of it in either game's construction set. So even if you try to discount UESP as being "incomplete" you can't argue with CS data; it ain't there. And yes, I did do a thorough search. Weapons, armor, misc. items, static objects.... you name it.

No reference to Notch. (Second paragraph if you're lazy)

Elder Scrolls Wiki says it was Oblivian and Morrowind. I don't care either way
