So a lot of people have never seen a "notched" weapon in a game before..... yikes.
The point is it wouldn't make sense to put a notch in a pickaxe. Bethesda could've just made that pickaxe at the top of the mountain "pickaxe" or "iron pickaxe" but instead they threw Notch a bone and very subtly gave him props, even despite the lawsuit ugliness. It's obvious just in the way it's presented, stuck into the rock face at the top of a huge mountain.
Wow, I feel stupider for reading this thread. The only thing I have to say to play Devil's Advocate to the "This is not an easter egg crowd" is that the TESCS picture only rules out pickaxes with the notched adjective, but not other uses of the notched adjective. However, this is an enchanted pickaxe, with a unique effect, located at the highest point in the world that has no story-driven reason to visit. It's an Easter Egg. Deal with it.
Yes, Notched is an English word, but Bethesda is more subtle than saying "LOL MINECRAFT Pickaxe". A man by the handle of Notch created Minecraft. Notched, as an English word, is an adjective that would be applied to a pickaxe if it was damaged and was not as effective in its job. Since this pickaxe actually improves your smithing, it stands to reason that this is a nod to the man Notch and, thus, Minecraft.
Lol wow...skyrim just came out and thats all ive been hearing about. but it seems im more excited for the minecraft release than i was with skyrim.. teehee :smile.gif:
This isnt a reference to minecraft you could get this item in oblivion, which came out before minecraft
My God, you people need to learn how to read...
IT WASN'T. IN. EFFING. OBLIVION.
15 pages of "It wasn't in other TES games" and "yes it wuz". Seriously who cares? Not even on topic.
Except it IS on topic, because the people screaming "It was in Oblivion!" are trying to use it as proof that this isn't an Easter Egg. And the topic is that this is an Easter Egg; ergo, it's on topic.
Notched means to have a nick in it. I'm in school to learn how to design video games, and i can tell you that I am near certain that this pickaxe was added way before the whole debate with Scrolls surfaced. I am outraged that the minecraft community is so stupid to believe what this topic starter suggests. Shame on you community, shame, on, you.

It's not JUST the name. It's in an out-of-the-way location like easter eggs usually are, has a unique enchantment that makes you better at MINING and CRAFTING, is one-of-a-kind, and is only two letters off from Notch. Oh, and several Bethesda devs are Minecraft fans, to the point of them playing Minecraft during Skyrim's development. And the fact that Bethesda love easter eggs in this style. (See my previous post)
Add all this up and you have either an Easter Egg or the most ridiculously unlikely coincidence in the universe. It might have been added before the Scrolls debate, but that only disproves the "show of good will" part, not the "easter egg" part.
Now, since you've seen fit to start calling everyone stupid I'm gonna leave before this turns into a flamewar.

It would seem that goodwill between Skyrim developer Bethesda and Mojang's Notch continues despite recent tensions with Bethesda's publishing company. While not directly confirmed, it is suspected that the Notched Pickaxe (seen above) is a quiet homage to the indie developer. The Bethesda team are known to be avid Minecraft fans, playing the game in their spare time, even during development of Skyrim. Of note, the pickaxe even resembles the titular item from Minecraft in its design, although with a much higher-resolution texture pack. Does this mean a similar inclusion of a Skyrim-themed easter egg may pop up in future Minecraft updates? Only time will tell!
Good God. This is quality entertainment. I'm sure there's a hefty amount of trolling going on in this thread but the sheer quantity of unadulterated stupid is _impressive_.
the whole lawsuit thing was between Mojang and Bethesda Softworks.
NOT Bethesda Game Studios, who made Skyrim and the other TES games.
all that shows is that you don't know bethesda's full name IS Bethesda Softworks, has been since the old oregon trail game.

i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.

All this shows is that you don't know the workings of Bethesda.
Bethesda Game Studios refers specifically to Todd Howard's Dev Team, the ones behind the Elder Scrolls titles as well as Fallout 3. BGS is a part of Bethesda Softworks, but BGS is not BethSoft as a whole; there are plenty of titles licensed under BethSoft that are NOT made by BGS.
Though, in point of fact, one should take care to remember that it wasn't specifically BethSoft OR BGS who filed the suit, but Zenimax Studios, the parent company who owns BethSoft. At that level, one can effectively consider BGS and the lawyers behind the suit as two completely separate entities.
tl;dr The lawsuit means jack **** in regards to the validity of this is an Easter Egg, so we should really just drop it.

like a notched sword would have scratches or lots of nicks, it is worn out...
