Hey Notch, Why did you have to ruin it for the rest of us? Did you at all ask what EVERYONE else wants to do? Do you have another VR device planned for Minecraft. We all know VR is the future, and if Minecraft isn't apart of that, then...?
Sure the Facebook acquisition doesn't sit well. I get that, but did you have to deny the rest of us access. Couldn't you have handed off the reins to someone else that would be willing to continue development?
Why is everyone jumping on this Facebook Bashing Bandwagon? If a year or two from now, we can't use Oculus without seeing an ad fly across our eyes from FB, THEN lets get crazy. For right now... for the love of god, just chill! FB has communicated their intent, and why don't we simply continue to TRUST the people at Oculus to make the right decisions LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THIS WHOLE TIME.
I think I can say with confidence that the MODS for Minecraft are what made Minecraft last as long as it did. Another words, the COMMUNITY helped this game become the behemoth that it is. Notch, can you please take some sort of community census before making decisions that effect the rest of us. This seems like a self-centered decision.
How many of you Oculus/FB haters are playing Candy Crush/ Farmville in your spare time?
Why are so many gamers negative? LOL Does everything have to have a conspiracy?
"wooooooo...FB is gonna do this .... do that... Ohhhhhhhh our lives are ruined..." "Now the NSA is gonna track our every move" LOLOL "But Minecr4ck!! FB can do whatever it wants now! We will turn into zombies... Its all Facebook's fault!!! poo hoo!!!" " Don't listen to what FB says!!! Don't listen to what Oculus says!!!" "They have a secret EVIL agenda!!!"

Selfishness is a two-way street bro. Minecraft is Notch's game, not the community's.
Notch doesn't seem to be a fan of Facebook and doesn't want to be associated with it. It's a business decision related to ethics. Get educated on business sometime.

I understand everyones problems with Facebook and their invasion of privacy. However, if anything, they have the resources the guys at Occulus lacked to develop a better product.
I don't think Notch is an idiot he is human and makes decisions any human would normally try to based on his own views I can't say I disagree with this but I fail to see how this make sense I mean If notch is Conscious enough to stop cooperatng with oculus rift why is he still cooperating with bukkit? they are even worse then facebook my opinion, they may not invade privacy but I get tired of them picking fights it shames not only the main minecraft communities, faceook tries to bring the world together they may not be capable of being trusted but they aren't gona rip you a new one if they don't wana get along they simply ignore, I may have alot of issues with the behaviors of bukkit but they do provide decent service in a way wich makes them = to the level of quality of facebook but enough rambling
The fact of the matter is Notch made an educated decision based on where he wants minecraft to go he has knowledge we couldn't dare comprehend he may have made a decision to so many that causes alot of discomfort but he also has the RIGHT and the fact is when you join a service like minecraft you have contributed to a company that you have basically accepted Notch as your leader and if you don't like this make your own game and run your own ideals.
To Notch: whatever you choose I trust that you are in the best interest of minecraft I may disagree but I know your the one who will help us carve the way to the next generation it's not about what I want it is about what is best for us as a community
Thank you for looking after us in these dark times

Notch has recognized minecraft as a community if he didn't these forums, plugins, mods, and sites would be gone by now however just because we are a community doesn't mean we own minecraft it means we are allowed to come together and make opinions out of a request based existence but thing is like I said we as a community don't own minecraft we are basically people who have joined a club and he is the founder his rule is law a community is not in control this isn't a democracy it is a game
Facebook connects people... whether they want to be connected or not. You, me, the CIA, cyberterrorists... you get the picture.
Any group that does data mining and then sells that information is a threat to our privacy and freedom of speech. A single falling rock precedes the landslide.

Okay, I looked into it a little bit more, and I think I have a better say in this than before.
For one, Oculus VR should still be operating independently, according to somebody who works at the company.
Two, money doesn't fall out of the sky, and progress would have probably taken longer, considering the company has to manufacture many models and do more research into this. Clearly, Facebook has a lot more money, and it can hopefully come out cheaper, better and sooner.
Three, they didn't even release a post-acquired version of the Rift. A little bit too quick to judge, don't you think?
And four, what many people were saying about ads always popping up in the middle of a game, it not being used for actual gaming, Facebook having plans to use this to track info of people, etc. is:
A: Said by people who are using Facebook, the bigger place between it and the Rift to have these "threats", (Notch, in my opinion, was the only one who was legitimate, since he probably wasn't using Facebook to begin with) and
B: Very likely not gonna be done, you think a company would be this stupid to waste money to make a product nobody would want?
Not a Facebook or Oculus VR fanboy, but lighten up, guys; yes, this might be worse, but on the other hand, it might be better. We don't know, we'll just have to wait until the consumer version is released. Thing is, though, that we can't make a final opinion before we've seen the real deal, considering they didn't even ship the second developer kit.

Normally, in relation to other issues, I would agree with you that people are overreacting - but in this instance, I think it is completely justified.
Oculus needed money to get off the ground, yes... but sooner or later it would have gotten it. Or one of the other brands developing similar technology would have. VR is going to happen, whether the first groups to do it have funding or not. The demand is simply too high for it to be ignored as an avenue of profit. For this reason in particular, any group with the money - be they a corporation or otherwise - would at least give it some thought once the baby steps were out of the way. Facebook just jumped the gun and took it ahead of the competition.
Whether OR still winds up operating independently of Facebook or not may not even be relevant... the fact that Facebook now owns it - and therefore has the final say on what is or is not added in terms of software and general content - is what worries me. Even if the dev team for OR still operates independently, they'll probably still wind up having to conform to Facebook's business standards or risk being fired and replaced by someone with more pliable morals.
And lastly, whether or not the people complaining about this use Facebook or not is beside the point - with Facebook, you can avoid disclosing your personal information to them by using a secure browser (ie. not Chrome or IE) and simply not adding any information outside of a name to your account when you make it, and keeping anything even remotely personal off and away from it. Anyone wanting to use an Oculus headset has to disclose their name and at least one correct and secure means of contact - along with bank details if they use a card to pay for it - in order to get and use the headset. Same thing for any data mining company, as I said before - it just so happens that the one whose data mining practices have received the most media attention was the one to have bought OR, which is why there's so much backlash over it.
As for companies being stupid enough to waste money on something like throwing ads into their games... have you seen the internet lately? Have you looked around when you go to the shops? Your local universities? Your cities? Everyone is doing it. Advertising is pervasive, all the more so because advertisers take indifference and passive hostility to mean that people aren't noticing their products, and will pay attention if they cram them that little bit further into our... let's say lives. Facebook is possibly the most blatant example of this. They are, in fact, stupid enough to do it, because advertisers don't care whether you like them or not. They just want to pester you into buying their product, and because they can legally make themselves a public nuisance with no repercussions, they're quite happy to exploit that allowance in every way possible. The fact that Facebook has so much money to throw around just makes it that much worse.

He's here to speak his mind. Just because he make think Notch isn't making bright moves, doesn't remove his desire for Minecraft.

Words of beauty.
Plus, I don't find VR all that captivating. Especially for gaming purposes.
Same situation as why did google claim Youtube
Just don't post and share your private information too much.
I see nothing wrong with Facebook owning Oculus Rift.

You should be thanking Notch for being an absolute child. He comes off to me as somebody with way too much confidence in abilities he doesn't have.
I wanted to be one of the cool kids.
Don't thank me just press the green upward arrow.
The answer to the universe.
