Ah, Sorry, I need to learn to read more. Sounds like a good addition, but they should add a description that says what it contains (Mod, Texture, Sounds), So servers don't hide mods in their resource packs
I think some RP creators will like this because many only make specific things but have to include all the other textures so that it is usable. Now, they can just alter the ones they want and leave the rest.
For example, I prefer the default pack, but I do like having a more realistic sun/moon and if I could even get a cool set of night sky stars in there by simply dragging the pack in, that would be awesome!
I like it when you add small things that might make a good difference, although it seems like its too lame to implent,I bet it would be good in the long run.

BuildMyBlock- Reliable and easy to use Minecraft hosting supporting Multicraft 2.0. Use Promo-code mcf50 for 50% off first order
For anyone that thinks it will lag, and have a lot of bugs, that is how minecraft works right now anyway. Now that each block and item is individual image file, when you use a texture resource pack that is missing textures you no longer see a random solid color or a block / item that says update your pack, it just automatically puts in the ugly vanilla textures, (if you are using a HD pack vanilla then looks ugly, otherwise I like vanilla textures) so now you can tell minecraft what you want it to be instead of it forcing it to be vanilla textures. If you don't like it because you are use to doing it yourself, ok, thats understandable. I personally will probably keep doing it myself anyway as well, but this is at least a lazy way of doing it when I am not in the mood. Also, I would assume that server resource packs would be optional, if not people will work a way around it.
Let's say i want the textures of pack A, and the sounds of pack B...
Do i put A on top to get the textures and B below to get the sounds?
But what if pack A already has sounds in it?
How does minecraft know wich part of wich Resourcepack i wanna use?
It will just pick everything from A except what A misses, that will be take from B right?
But what if A has everything added but i don'want to use the sky, lava, or sounds but use the ones from B.
How does minecraft know this??? This is not clear to me from the article, can someone enlighten me?
( Alvoria i'm looking at you... where are you?? )
Because if all it does is filling the missing stuff from A with stuff from B, it seems kinda useless.
That would mean i would have to take stuff out of A in order to get stuff from B showing, wich is just as tedious as mixing and matching really...
I only use my own textures nowadays since i'm busy with my own RP, but i'm still curious as to how this is resolved.
Edited because all that A and B made me mess up...
It will just pick everything from A except what A misses, that will be take from B.
I think the idea behind this is to encourage people to make module based resource packs. Well not to encourage it but for the people only do sound packs, or only do texture packs, or even for mod patches, I have been doing a lot of FTB lately, and I had my little brother who lives about 3 hours away join my server, and he wanted sphax, Trying to walk him through how to patch it was such a pain in the neck, that if I could just have had him select all those patches the way this shows for FTB and not have to combine the rar files it would have been much easier.
What is the issue with using a server's preferred pack?
And who will work around it? The server owners will probably like this.
If you try to somehow avoid this wouldn't that mean a hack of some sort?
And if your deadset on not abiding to this then why play on that server?
Oh, I have no problem with server preferred texture packs, I actually love using preferred texture packs. That being said, I have been on some servers that the texture pack confused me because I could tell what some items were suppose to be.
and I mean a mod that would just re-introduce the type of code that made server textures optional.
Now this is the pinnacle of Minecraft customization. Mixing two different resource packs together to get the best of all worlds(different textures, mixed sounds, etc)! Hats off to Dinnerbone! *tips my hat*

Woah, hold it! Mods in the resource packs!? Server dowloaded resource packs??
Is this going where I think is going? Server side injected mods into your minecraft in the form of resource packs? Downloadable modpacks in the form of resource packs?
i hope so, this would mostly remove the need to make mod downloading easier as it's pretty easy already, and get straight to mod developing, witch i would love to see made easier (i mean yeah, there's forge, but i'm confident mojang can do it better) once i can make my server use mods without every player downloading stuff, i'm good :D. it's just not fair to ask of players to download a long list of mods just to play on a private server, but if i can just force them on them then it's easy to play with hookshots while shooting down friends with large cannons and just think of the options for mapmakers!
Useless if there isn't an option to 'Enforce Server Pack Only' option on server packs. I do not want on competitive servers people using cheaty texture packs. Right now we are stuck with 3rd party tools to ensure the correct texture pack is in use and it's getting old banning 3-5 people a day for not following the rules for fixed texture packs.
