Notch has said from the beginning that he would eventually become bored or busy and hand it off to others. He said when he got really tired of it and didn't want to do it anymore at all, he'd open-source it. Well, folks, the source has been available (albeit not officially released) for a bit now. And Notch has other projects, other challenges.
Notch, good luck in your new endeavors. I know it's not good-bye, but with your focus elsewhere... well, good luck on the things you're focusing on! :biggrin.gif:
Jeb's been part of things for a long time. He's smart, he's clever, and he's already been in it. We've already seen his work. Many of the things Notch gets full credit for are from Jeb. He is, as they say, a worthy successor.
Jeb, welcome to the spotlight. Please, don't take the naysayers personally. There are gripers in every crowd and at every change. Players rarely appreciate what gets done for them, and you can't please everyone with _anything_.
I am not a programmer. I am a writer, an artist, and a mother. However, I can appreciate good code when I experience it, and I can _certainly_ appreciate someone who listens to the community.
I'm personally glad we have someone in charge of the game now who's more open to modding. I look forward to the api, and to the new mods that will hopefully come. Heck, if I can convince my husband to work on the coding with me (or get a coding-monkey-partner-thing), I can promise a few new mods myself, once we have it. I've had a bunch of neat ideas, but haven't done anything with them because... well... I'm not a coder. :smile.gif:
So anyway, welcome Jeb! Glad to have you out here where we can see you.
I think jeb will use a modded curse client along side bukkit to accomplish this task. This would be fairly easy to implement. Different jar file for a different server would be the best way to go. All you would do is install the curse client, let it run. Connect to the server of choice, bukkit detects on join hands curse a list of mods it needs to install, client closes down, installs mods, client restarts and joins server after mods are installed. Rinse and repeat for updates.
Good don't play anymore...that sounds so ignorant, Jeb worked on the game with Notch and will still be working on minecraft with him. Jeez do you think he would just give position up knowing that Jeb wasn't fit for the position? NO. SO SIT DOWN AND HUG A CREEPER KID.
NOOOOOOOO WHAT THE HELL NOTCH!!??????!?!!?!?
YOUR SO JOLLY AND I WANT TO HUG YOU!.
I DONT WANT TO HUG JEB :'(((((((
I WILL BE FOREVER SAD.
JOKING BUT I HOPE YOUR NEW JOB
GOES WELL YOUR IN MY PRAYERSThese Will be Tough Days.
i think this was smart because jeb was making all of the major development changes for a while now and notch is working on other games anyway like cobalt
I flinched when I saw this thread. Notch did a good job developing Minecraft, so I will miss him. However, I also do believe that Jeb will do a great job making Minecraft grow for the rest of it's lifetime. Jeb will probably do the same as Notch did and give Minecraft to another worker. Then that worker to another worker. Minecraft's developement will be a tradition! They will make a Kinect version, so players feel like they're in the world of Minecraft. Sci-fi fans say that in the future, there will be games with extremely realistic graphics that you can go inside of. If that ever exsists, Minecraft will be made for that thing! I believe that even when all of us die, Minecraft will continue to grow without dying! It will become better until all life ends! That's NOT going to happen, so Minecraft will exsist FOREVER! Anybody agree?
Honestly Notch was bored he Was pretty much like im done look at all the open ends that notch did not want to finish so he jus slaped "the End" On and called it good Like potions are endless. More mobs. More items. Dare i say it Better and easyier Redstone. its endless and i think notch realized he did not want to keep fixing things he is a "Creator" not a Service guy

Just saying, it's not going to make a HUGE difference. If this hadn't been anounced nobody would ever be able to tell.
