Totally agree with most people here. Minecraft needs to go down more a path like 1.7. If something like, BetterThanWolves for example, was implemented into vanilla, this game would be revived. RPG elements are good - but in a world of survival and creation, they're not. Sorry if you think they are, but they're not.
This seriously made my day. I look forward to future updates from someone that doesn't spend 40% of a year on vacation and tweets majorly about how lazy he's feeling that day rather than fix bugs.[1]
Jeb has pretty much been doing everything for the past five updates. I barely EVER hear about something Notch has added. I think this was a great move. Minecraft was becoming way too RPGish.
O durn. That was unexpected... Well, so long as he adds the good stuff everyone keeps asking them about, should be cool. Good luck.
P.S. What happens to the little Notch faces all over the Forums now? Do they become little Jeb faces?

Define Cute (choose 1): A) Creepers Aerbunnies C) Herobrine. If you chose A): You appeal to destruction and to stereotypes. If you chose B): You are a perfectly normal person, and enjoy the Aether Mod. If you chose C): Please leave the planet now before you set off a nuclear warhead--no one enjoys mass murders, however nice they might seem to you.
WOW. My friends and I think that this is a brilliant idea! Once Jeb finishes the modding API, it will just make me look up to him more. Notch and Jeb need to be praised equally for creating Minecraft, but now the project has fallen to Jeb. Good Luck!
I hate how everyone's saying that JEB did more work. Notch started Minecraft. He added chickens. Cows. Sheep. Pigs. CREEPERS. Jeb fixes one bug and everyone starts celebrating that he did more work. Think, people. Notch has been the person along this all along. He's been what makes you happy in Minecraft. Mountains? Was him. Dungeons? Was him. Strongholds? Was him. Think for a bit and you'll see what Notch did and what Jeb did. Seperate the two and you got Notch leading by a milestone.
Why not? Jeb generally makes nicer looking things that seem more functional, and Notch, though he started something great, seems fairly detached and passive about the game and things to do with the game, which is never a good thing. I have faith this will work out for the better.
Notch did create the game, but Jeb has been continuing it, and more than Notch has. Also, it appears that Jeb is going to do some of the things that Notch has promised since the beginning of minecraft. They finally made apples fall from trees, so I suspect they will add things such as cocoa plants, pig riding being improved, and being able to write in books. The only thing I'm worried about with Jeb in charge is that apparently he hates dragons... I want overworld dragons really, really badly, and they still should add a few more RPG-ish overworld MOBs like rats, bats, snakes, ghosts, and goblins to the game.
i don't see what the problem for this is. Jeb isnt going to remove any major features or ruin minecraft, and unless you know Notch irl, he has probably been working his @$$ off for all you know.
I'd say it doesn't really change anything. most likly we will get all the things promised to us.
Let's all forget Notch as soon as possible. He is apparently just too lazy to even work on Minecraft. Besides, most of minecraft has already been coded by Jeb... so from now on I don't want to see anyone mentioning Notch and Minecraft in the same sentence.
Congratulations to Jeb for start and secondly I see no cons for this action. Jeb has brought many additions to the game that have changed the way you play for the better i.e. wolves and structures. He has always thought about the community as well as with Notch in the past so this is a very big plus for us. On another thought, Even though Notch is resigning that does NOT mean he is leaving completely he is simply assigning Jeb as the head of Production so Markus is still part of the picture just not in the spotlight. I think this was a very smart move on Notch's behalf allowing him to relax, take a break, and think about improvments for the game we all know and love.

Never step down as the leader, Jeb.
If Notch has faith in you I think the community will follow with having faith in you to.

I wish there was a -1 button.
Jeb has done SO MUCH to minecraft.
Notch is, I have to admit, lazy.
True.
