Minecraft is a success because of everything it offers, not just the mechanics. You're suggesting that Mojang focus on the mechanics and the mob AI, and that the community should add the content, and that could be problematic. In order for the community to add content, like horses and flowers, they would first have to get it approved by Mojang before it gets added.
Um. Added content is the point of a mod. Adding something or changing something.
The mechanics are what drive the game - not whether red dye comes from a silly rose or poppy. What was the point in wasting time on that?
Horses were a mod prior to Mojang making them officially part of Minecraft. Had nobody ever considered this and suddenly Mojang said "Hey, look, horses!" it would have been different.
Villagers are an integral part of survival mode yet major bugs still plague their AI. But, hey, horses and flowers are important! Horses that still get stuck in blocks and die or that fall into holes deep enough for the horse but not enough for the rider as well so that you end up nearly getting killed from suffocation damage. Bounding boxes are so last decade but mobs still fall into blocks and fences and die. I love the ones that magically find their way outside what should be solid walls.
Flowers? Just wasting time on how dye is made.
I would rather Mojang fix some of the major bugs that continue to plague the game engine, pathing, and bounding issues instead of wasting their time adding "new content" that had already been done before.
I love mods! It's like undaming a river of awesome, bringing extra life to everything it touches. Minecraft is flooded with mods but everyone can pick if they want to be spoiled or not. Like trying to play survival after playing mcmmo is crazy hard. But each mod is a different flavor and I still love vanilla.
But it is getting hard to separate please gimme things from must have things. But growing is important to. Mine craft grows and mods grow. Together and forward. I like flowers, but I'd rather have a shader update. Or a chair xD. Anyways the updates seem to usually be half shiny things to keep us interested and half actual improvement.
That's kind of my point - time spent on adding shiny objects is less time fixing issues that have been around a long time and it introduces the risk of even more issues.
Mods are great - the greatest thing is when they are voluntary. My experience has been that when the developer takes over the mod they start to suck.
Please send me the http:\\ link to load Minecraft 1.7.2
Since you are a new poster on the forums I am going to assume that you are also a relatively new, legal, subscriber to Minecraft.
If you start your Minecraft launcher and click on "New Profile", type in a name for the profile, select release 1.7.2, set any other options you wish, and click "Save Profile" and then select that profile and click "play" the launcher will download that version and install it.

Personally I think that the variation of new items is good for creativity, and simply aesthetic. I don't see why the view outside of my glass
I think that if natural disasters were added, more people would design their structures in a less aesthetic way, choosing instead to make them resistant to natural disasters or completely temporary. Natural disasters would essentially be built in griefing. And unlike creepers, you wouldn't be able to stop it from coming. It wouldn't be a good idea to "force players to put some real thought into where they decide to start their pathetic city and/or home" simply because this is Minecraft; a game oriented around building. If I want to build my house over a pool of lava, on a sandy beach, or in any unsafe location, why shouldn't I? Why should I loose an infinite number of opportunities to build what I want?
Minecraft is a game oriented around building to survive. If you're not trying to survive, awesome; go play in creative mode and build whatever you want.
Plus, there's nothing that would keep people from building visually appealing homes if they wanted, for two main reasons.
1. There is beauty in technical and mechanical designs. Just because you're building to survive doesn't mean you have to just make a plain box of iron to live in.
2. You very well could just make a regular house in survival mode. It would just be easily trampled upon by the forces of nature.
Ok, so I went playing around on a server that supports 1.7.2, and found out a LOT, and i mean a LOT of bugs (Bukkit still hasn't updated, that's probably one reason) first of all, the bed texture is messed up, and when you go in it, you can't get out unless you relog, some of the chat is white, and you can only place one kind of flower down, the remade rose I think. Please reply if you have seen similar issues. It's a bit hard to roleplay with the bed glitch, and sometimes the chat is jumbled up or I can't see some chat at all o_o it's weird. As I said, it's probably because Bukkit hasn't updated yet, and the server I play on is supported by Bukkit so :/

I just loaded it up a couple of minutes ago. It is definitely one of the biggest and generally greatest updates since the Adventure Update back in 2011.

That is, if there were any.
And that's the massive, game-breaking flaw in your suggestion.
