Gee, another useless aesthetic update. The only thing that makes this update worth anything at all is the addition of that water-breathing potion.
Well, that, and the incredibly tall mountains. I commend the team on that.
But why aren't we seeing more effort put into content that isn't merely for vanity and actually adds to the gameplay?
If you were to make a painting of someone, you wouldn't start by drawing the eyelashes, would you?
They added more Biomes thats content..... the vanity or fluff items like stain glass and new trees/ plants is content also if you dont want to think that is then go ahead.
Now please enlighten us with this content you would like to see then QQ and ask for content and not explain what it is you wanted to see
I crash everytime I try and get on minecraft 1.7.4 and not just a normal crash. the list of all the codes run down my screen then all the looks of every single thing in minecraft. then I go blue and freez. 10 minets latter it crashes.
Some of those Super Secret Options are really cool, though ultra laggy. I was so excited when I saw the one that looks like its going to be in 3D, but I don't think it actually is. Me and my little brother have named a couple- MoodyCraft and Wiggle Dance Party 9000. I haven't had any of the world shattering bugs that I've seen here, just some small stuff. The bed texture on the right side is kind of strange, and I can't get into bed from the left side. When I'm wearing leather armor, the other armor slats turn black, and sometimes my fishing pole, when I cast it into the water, floats above the water 1-3 blocks in the air. Enough with the bad stuff though, I love the new fishing mechanics. I got a saddle without having to find a dungeon, and I think I'm going to have lots of fishing trips. The glass is great, although I still hate the texture lines, but I can deal. The dark oak is beautiful, and fighting witches more often makes caving more interesting.

Very excellent update Mojang. It makes the world of Minecraft far more robust and explorable. Yet, ever since I got into playing Terraria awhile ago when the 1.2 update came out for it, I've felt like Minecraft has less of a purpose and I really can't see any other way of playing the game other than building stuff. I wish there was more to it than that because even the exploration and mining all seems like a means to an end, and that end is building artificial structures that don't really serve a purpose other than looking pretty.
Well, with this version, "find all the biomes" has gotten a lot harder -- for that matter, I haven't had green dye or cats since 1.6.x!
Sure it's satisfying to dedicate yourself to a build and watch it form, but whereas in Terraria, there is a logical and addicting progression to things that give the game focus and playability. ... I know Minecraft is about freedom and all, but I really wish it didn't require you to make your own fun; at least give us an option. The game also desperately needs at least an item, armor, etc. that makes vertical travel quicker and more fun than just making block stairs. When I finally got a grappling hook in Terraria, it felt like Christmas morning.
Well, that's the difference between an RPG and a sandbox. Minecraft does have a decent tech tree, from the tool ladder through the Nether, and finally the End (once you beat the dragon, unlimited Ender Pearls). For vertical travel -- well, besides pillar jumping, blocks, and actual stairs, there's ladders (as Notch noted, not "fun", but necessary), waterfalls, and the aforementioned Ender Pearls. If vertical travel were much easier, heights wouldn't be a hazard or obstacle (and of course, outright flying would pretty much moot all the terrain hazards). As it is, even the highest mountain can be climbed, but some are fairly challenging.
I haven't played Minecraft for a while, in fact I stopped playing before the horse update. Now I've updated it and it says I'm playing 1.7.2, but do I have to download the other update manually or is it already included in the newest update?
Actually, if you want to rescue your structures (Witch Huts and Nether Fortresses), you need to downgrade to 1.6.4 (edit your profile in the launcher, and be aware you will lose any new blocks), and visit them.

I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
please tell me im not the only one getting this problem. It either goes like this or completely black. Any fix? I can't even play this version of the game. Help would be lovely
I wonder when the ability to change your name will be implemented.. hopefully fairly soon.
Won't that mess up basically all data? Considering white lists will have to be rewritten, banlists rebanned, whole permission systems broken and recoded.. It seems like it would be quite defective

From what I understand, it won't affect your login name, but just add a second nickname that people see. I believe only server admins will see your login? This is just what I've heard tossed about, though, so I could be wrong.
From what iv'e seen in the posts, this update is incredibly glitched and buggy. Therefore I am probably correct when I say this: Congratulations Mojang! You have surpassed EA in terms of bugs and glitches!

A lot of updates have been coming out lately. I might know why.... all these versions to keep us busy making mods and resource packs, it gives MOJANG more time to come out with Minecraft 2.0.0 or whatever it would be. BTW 1.7.2 looks awesome!!! XD

Aesthetic features are not useless, as one of Minecraft's main features is building. That being said, the terrain most certainly affects gameplay because the terrain will most certainly affect what you build. Unless you play exclusively underground, which most people probably prefer not to do. (Of course not everything you build is affected by the terrain, such as redstone, however, I think enough aspects of building are affected by the terrain for me to use it as a stable example of the terrain affecting gameplay.)
Personally, I believe that the terrain prior to 1.7 was absolutely horrid. And many people would agree with me. What is so terrible about improving the terrain, especially when it was perceived as terrible by so many members of the community?
Also, I don't think the painting analogy is a good one, because I think the terrain is certainly a very major part of Minecraft. As I already stated, you can't avoid the terrain unless you play exclusively underground.
Well it's literally impossible to stay underground in survival so I try to make a home and a mine entrance near a village.
I almost always end up terraforming the village area to get rid of depressions, ravines, hills, etc. to flatten it out.
Case in point from one of my prior posts on page 10 (this is the "village from hell" terraformed to fit the valley since it provides almost perfect protection from monsters):
And I usually spend about 50% of my time mining and 50% building.

It will have to be implemented eventually, besides perhaps the naming system will implement a unique ID tied to every Mojang account, for-which the bukkit plugins might have to use as-well. Speculating here. Furthermore these ID codes could be implemented in-game when you hover your cursor over one's name.
Judging from my server logs, players already have UUIDs as of 1.7.2 (or, more likely, they're just being shown now). The system will no doubt be using them.
Can't say I'm all that fond of the renaming idea, though. I remember how annoying it was when griefers changed names constantly in Battlefield 1942 and you had to sit and look up previous infractions in the logs to find out who had done what and under which name.
I have to say, as someone who hates their IGN to the point of having considered buying a new account to change it, I very much welcome this feature. That said, there is huge potential for abuse, so I'd rather see it done well and take forever to get here than done quickly and allow a ton of exploits.

Yes, it's a bug where textures are mirrored (backwards TNT, doors, etc).
