The adding the candestroy tag to tools is cool. But wouldn't it have been more effective to add a destroyable: true/false tag to blocks them themselves. That way you could edit specific parts of blocks you wanted people to be able to destroy in adventure maps. But if you wanted to use the same block for decoration they couldn't destroy that. Just an idea.

The slime block sounds like a really cool block to experiment with, and villagers getting more specific would be ok for me too. I'm not that invested in enchanting so i don't really care, but i want to see 1.8 already, sounds like it's gonna be awesome, just like all the other updates.
This is a great update! I've been yelling at my monitor for Granite since I first saw Red Power 2's marble.
And this gave me an idea, too. Slime blocks are using a new graphical feature, aren't they? That could be used for a new block type.
Mojang should add marble! "But" - you say - "There already is quartz, isn't there? And diorite is bright, too!". Yes, that indeed is true. But the new slime blocks gave me this idea here: what about "transperent" blocks of quartz? Just like they would look in real life? "What would happen to the old quartz blocks you ask? Well, some people already call quartz marble, so why don't utilize the old textures of quarz as polished, chiseled and pillar versions of a new stone type? That could also make getting plain bright-white blocks easier for some players.
Leave your thoughts below!
P.S. Mojang should also think on adding atleast the pillar versionds of the new stone types. Leave your thoughts on that below, too.
By going to a biome that has normal stone... You read my post wrong. Though IMO you should be able to make stone tools from these types of stone as well...
Still waiting for slabs and stairs for all blocks.
The crafting is there already just the items are not so maybe they are adding the slabs and stairs. But at this time you get the current slabs and stairs.
one more thing.... I don't ever, EVER use default textures because they're ugly as hell, but the new stone bricks add a whole new dimension of ugly, they seem really rushed and honestly I'm quite surprised by just how badly done they look, I'm no artist but I'm almost positive i could do better!
OK lets see it!!
I want you to re texture all 6 new stone textures. The 3 stone and 3 polished. Upload them to Imgur and post the link here. They have to be original creations by you. I played allot of FTB mods so I'll know or I can find out. I'll give you till the next snapshot.
Okay, new stone, nice... but why does it have to be in ugly splotches? Why can't the terrain generator randomly select a base material from the types of stone (per biome) and generate all of its stone in a biome as that material?
I agree, the base stone should be biome dependant and/or level dependant. That is to say a layer of different stone running through the biome at a variable depth.. this is already in the code for layering the clay mesa biomes and just needs to be tweeked for stone.
Just think of digging down and finding a layer of different rock, and how awesome chasms would look!
Also I think Mojang should ask the good folkes at Terrafirma craft if they can use their wonderfull stone textures. Maybe even some of their trees, (I'm all for new blocks that add to the looks of builds but don't change gameplay) and all stones should craft the same way, smelt cobble (any stone) for the smooth version and 2x2 for large brick and 3 in a row for polished stone. I would even suggest 4x4 smooth sandstone become large sandstone brick.
I am Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya. I beat the death game, named "Sword Art Online". You can't defeat me, don't even try.
Could Mojang design it? Nope. If they could it would be here. So don't give us smart talk.
They will still have the old Villager system.
