Amazing! Sunflowers will surely add more scenery to Minecraft! I believe that redwood forest biomes are being added too. Nice touch! Keep up the amazing work mojang! -Also to those that are hating on mojang right now, shut your traps! If you do not like the new stuff being added, then just use the new launcher to downgrade your version! It's not that hard!
Kinda mad about how all updates since 1.4 have been called "The ____ Update". This update is The Biome Update. Getting really repetitive.
It should be applied when something major than moar redstone get added to the game (like the Alpha 1.2.0 Halloween Update added a new dimension and biomes), not when a new transportation method is added to the game.
They are not interesting.
Their improving mapmaking, but not survival! Weird!
1 guy made a giant mod in 48 hours. Yes, it added tons of content.
What these do in 2 months?
Nothing useful.
Dragons and pandas ARE confirmed future updates, but we will not get them
BIGGEST UPDATE AFTER ADVENTURE UPDATE?
Yeah, new particles and sunflowers!
Let's applause!
Of course, new content, always welcome! I like the sunflower.
The problem is, that they add new features, and forget the old W.I.P ideas, and never do them again.
Chairs, welcome!
Will they add them?
NO, because "It's way too hard. We have to code the sitting thing and all that".
Takes 5 minutes, still we wont get them.
People are angry because they want COOOL features, instead of boring sunflowers.
I like the idea myself, but I also want something cooler than that in the game.
But nah, we will never get them.
Really, I hope Jeb/Dinner reads this.
They have planned SO MANY cool features, like Red Dragon, Pandas, but when will we get them? We willn't.
Their only focusing on some FLOWERS, instead of FINALLY making the MOBS. Minecraft is SO empty, NO nature animals, except bats. With nature I mean ambience and all that. Their just planning to add sunflowers. Nice thing, ok.... BUT THEY FACE EAST! The point? There isn't. Just click F3, Ta-da, it'll show wheres east, north and all that. Seriously, do we need this? No. Do we need falling particles? NO. Do we need more blocks and tons of mobs? YES Minecraft is SO BORIN that I don't even play it now. And their doing the work SO SLOW! Animations, all just so bad. Minecraft modders, make GIANT THINGS in 48 hours, what do Jeb and Mojang do in 2 months?
Add sunflowers. Really?
Or the 1.6.2 update.
Few things, such as horses. So Mojang means that EVERY mob their going to add, will have it's own update! If their going to add a WORM mob, a tiny pixel, and coded in 2 minutes or 1, or even 30 seconds, they do a whole update for it.
Dear Jeb/Mojang, please, read this post, and start TRYING to make the game, instead of just playing it. I have seen their office videos, what does Jeb do? He isn't even on his table/computer. HE'S PLAYING PINBALL! START MAKING THE GAME, SO PEOPLE WOULD LIKE IT, INSTEAD OF DESTROYING THE GAME EVERY DAY!
Oh, and PS... NOT a surprise, that Minecraft sale has slowed down. People wont buy it anymore, because it's ruined. When Minecraft first appeared, it got like 10 million sales, in a short time. Now, about a year have been, and we have now 11,5 million sales. Why? You know why. Or X360 version. Why it got 4 million sales in a month, and then it stopped? Because that they noticed 4J is WAY too lazy to update it, and published it as a BETA, instead of the FULL version, and 1 update takes about 4 months.
Seriously, Mojang, 4J, man up and start the work. Or I'm quitting Minecraft...
Why they are mad?
Because their adding SUNFLOWERS???? Instead of those majestic dragons and flying creatures flying around. People want Minecraft to be mystic, and cool, what we got?
Boring, ugly game.
Dude, as of this point, you are speaking out of your underside. Go to http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features to see the UPCOMING FEATURES that are confirmed. They seriously aren't JUST adding sunflowers and impact particles... We have tons of new biomes, GREAT biome additions and changes, to make a less "boring, ugly game". Don't click the link to not see you're being overly dramatic? Here, I can help you.
New Biomes
Clay Canyon biome[2] jokingly referred to as "Disco Mountains".[3]
Composed of multiple colored hardened clay.
Dead bushes spawn in this biome.
Redwood Forest biome.[4]
Contains 2x2 Spruce trees.
Will have a grass block variant known as Podzol.[5][6]
Currently obtained only by the silk touch enchantment.[7]
Contains dirt blocks that do not allow grass to grow.
They have a data value of 1.
Only obtainable with /give because there is no visual difference.[8][9]
Moss Stone "boulders" are scattered around in this biome.
Dead Bushes, Mushrooms, and Ferns spawn in this biome.
A cliff technical biome.[10]
Main block is stone.
Like Steep hills, not completely vertical.
Possibly a Skylands-like world type.[11]
Improvements & Changes
Possibly changes to oceans.[12][13][14]
Improved biome transition/generation.[14]
Spruce Trees will generate in Extreme Hills biomes OR a variant of Extreme Hills (Jeb mentioned adding variants of existing biomes).[15]
Snow may now generate depending on Y level, with noise variation.[16]
Biome dependent.[17]
[edit] Gameplay
Improvements & Changes
Changes to fishing mechanics.[18][19][20][21][22]
Redoing the achievements and statistics system.[23]
Will be per world/server.[24]
New scoreboard functions.[25][26][27][28]
Can now use statistics to create objectives; anything that statistics can track can be used as an objective (can also track achievements).
This is the reason why statistics/achievements were changed to be stored per world/server.
Falling now has particle effects.[29]
[edit] Blocks & Items
Additions
Possibly Cherry Trees added by Patrick Geuder.[30][31]
They vary "seasonally" by having leaf blocks change color every fourth day for three minutes.[32]
Contain pink saplings.[33]
New Flowers.
Sunflowers.[34]
Always face East.[35]
Can be grown, unlike Roses and Dandelions. [35]
What appears to be Lavender.[36]
Grown up to two blocks in height.
Pink Paeonias, called Paeonia.[37]
Several colors of Tulips.[38]
What appears to be two block tall grass.[36]
[edit] Miscellaneous
Additions
Community Feature[39]
Improvements & Changes
Several lighting issues fixed.
A lot fewer "black spots" in the terrain generator.[40]
Torch bugs in strongholds and mineshafts have been fixed.[41][42]
Rewrite of several option screens.[43]
A completely new main options menu.[44]
Rewrote Key Config.[45]
Function and sprint keys can be changed.
"Cinematic Camera," formerly available by pressing F8, will now use F4 by default.
Bug fixes:
MC-2915 - Attempting to tp to an invalid coordinate returns "commands.generic.double.invalid"
MC-9547 - Incorrect usage string for `/scoreboard teams empty`
MC-10257 - when a pig gets struck by lightning it spawns without a sword
MC-11280 - Sometimes Water flows out of newly generated Village Farms
MC-11518 - RCON and Scoreboard Command Output Formatting
MC-12450 - Missing usage string commands.scoreboard.players.list.usage
MC-12452 - Scoreboard team join command fails on invalid team name
MC-12454 - Scoreboard option seeFriendlyInvisibles not listed in usage
MC-12541 - the letters for the 'off' setting on smooth lighting aren't capitalized
MC-16324 - "Reached end of stream" messages in Minecraft server terminal when client pings the server
MC-17090 - Invalid teamcolors throw an NPE in the console rather than an error message "invalid color"
MC-26608 - /spreadplayers confirmation text is wrong
And the Playstation "Sales"? Dude, it isn't even AVAILABLE yet, it's just confirmed to be ADDED, you dunce. Xbox sales are still number 1, so that hasn't "slowed". and PC as shown above is taking a turn for the better. Jeb and Dinnerbone are saving this game. And if you really want to know the truth behind your precious little Red Dragon? It was confirmed by NOTCH, not Jeb or Dinnerbone, and still was never added. It was during the 8th Seecret Friday update. (No, I did not mispell Secret, they spelt it that way...). A lot of those planned features change only because of better ideas or the coding was much harder than they thought it would be. Coding isn't all cookies and sugarcane, you know...!
Where have I seen these sunflowers before? Oh yeah, thats right. Terraria
Please don't say that "Minecraft is a ripoff of Terraria, or I will have to go apeÂ... It came out before... Thanks you! (Hey, at least these flowers can tell direction, unlike... Compasses. Terraria is 2D, no real directions besides left and right. ~ By the way, F3 isn't for telling direction, it's a debug tool!
No offense to Mojang as I am very thankful for all their hard work thus far but if this is the best they can do then someone is either drunk as a skunk or smoking something lol. This concept is as old as Minecraft is and can be observed from many other blocks in the game let alone a silly sunflower.
For example,
On Cobblestone "the L shapeon it's side" in the upper left corner, will "always" point West.
Texture pixels on most all "building blocks" will always be the same no matter where you place the block and as such will always face the same directions, compass or no compass. ~ /facepaw
Running low on ideas?
How about a Mirror Block or Polished Chrome Block?
("Something you can see a reflection in"...)
*Sigh*... Do I need to pull out the update list again? Sure. Go here. Plenty more things then just a sunflower... http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features
People, please be less... complainitive (I don't even think that's a word! I am so tired of listening to complaints I am making up words...)!
Mojang is saving Minecraft, they have so many new things in store! They are even adding more into the launcher to let you go back to previous versions! (They have already done so, but they will be adding even more! You can already play all Beta and all Alpha versions, they even have the Cavegame! But they will be adding Indev/Infdev later on.) So if you hate the new Minecraft, keep it to yourself, because nobody wants to hear it, and immerse yourself in the old versions. Thank you! GOOD DAY!
I see that peoples can't stop talking about the Alpha version, the new updates... Peoples likes Alpha version because when it was released, everyone was thinking about Minecraft's next versions. And now everyone wants to play the early version again. Take a close look to what they have done for Minecraft. They added many monsters, they did them smarter and stronger, they made dimensions, they added villages, secret strongholds and hidden temples... Just trying to make Minecraft funnier, making players have a nice and fun adventure. Minecraft team haven't done a good 1.6 update, but now they are doing a great one, you all should be happy for this. Beautiful flowers, an awesome forest made out of giant trees, isn't that good?
I believe the reason behind that is the fact that the initial version is the update itself and the extra bit (.3/4/5/etc.) is reserved for the bugfix updates for that update, in case any problems occur after official release.
...and to expand a little: we'll take a look at 1.6.2... The 1 is the main version (pretty much have to re-work the whole thing to change this, imo), the 6 is the 6th major update since it was released (1.0.0, 1.1, 1.2.5, 1.3.1, 1.4.7, 1.5.2, 1.6.2), and the 2 is basically the 2nd bugfix of this major update (the only exception seems to be 1.4.6 to 1.4.7 where new (semi-minor) features were added, however it was still a bug fix).
This update is probably going to be even better than all the previous ones. I'm really impressed. They are improving the world generation, which in my opinion is the best part of this update. The smaller things like the new flowers are welcomed bonus too. People don't realise how much one or two new items and blocks can actually give the game a fresh new feel.
As for the haters, I suggest you take your negativity elsewhere, this is a pro-minecraft forum. We are here because we love the game, despite it's flaws. There are probably a thousand things that could be improved, but the same could be said about any other game or material product for that matter. Asking stupid questions like "can I get a refund?' is not going to achieve anything other than show how ungrateful you are for all of the free updates you have received since you bought the game. When Notch was leading the Minecraft team, people hated on him. When Jeb took over, people hated on him too. Now that Dinnerbone is playing a bigger role, people hate on him too. The only reason for this is people assume that they could do a better job. Or they assume that the time could have been used in another area.
Majority of us love any addition to the game. Not everything in the game needs to have a defined purpose. Most of us are not selfish enough to expect the game to cater for our personal tastes. If you don't like any of the new additions, they have released this thing called a new launcher that lets you choose which version of the game you want to play, Try it. Stop your whining and get over yourself. The game is great and you know it. If you disagree, then move along and play something else.
I love Minecraft, no matter what they add to the game it stays awesome. I can't think of any addition that has ruined the game for me. Sure there are some things that were added that have no use to my particular play style, but I am happy with the knowledge that millions of other people will be able to use them.
I agree. Not everyone will like every update (and should just sit tight for the next one they will like). I actually have something more to add here, but it goes with another quote below, so I'll wait to say it...
Yes, what coukd they possibly add what would be interesting?
Wait, they dont add interesting stuff.
"pro minecraft forum"
seriously? Doesn't seem so "pro".
How about you stop commenting them if you demand me to stop complaining?
All the below listed names are the most pathetic/worst game makers:
1. Valve
2. 4J Studios.
3. Mojang
4. Infinity Ward [for ruining a good game series]
5. Treyarch [for ruining a good game series]
Good grief. I'm just going to say: your opinion, not mine. I've had this game since Alpha (specifically June 1, 2010). Plenty of interesting stuff added.
They have updates very, very shortly. 4J studios said 2 months ago, that update is near, and here we are, 2 months later, no update!
Same goes for PC, "Mojang", update are very, very small and we need to wait MONTHS for them, when modders do that in 48 hours.
Doesn't sound like you're a programmer. I can tell you FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that to program a game, it takes a long time. Updates are no different. I did a TEXT RPG and that took months.
Without looking up the official statement on that, no snapshots until Mojang is ready to release them (they need to flesh the game out some more and, besides, they're adding a plethora of biomes and terrain generator changes. Personally, I don't want a snapshot until the final biomes & terrain generator code is in place. After that, all that should be left are, maybe items, definately bug fixes.
I know the mod exists, because I used it...
Pandas and Dragons STILL are Confirmed features.
No, I'm not lying. A long time ago they said it's there, but now it is there...
again, since Alpha. Pandas NEVER confirmed. Dragons are a little more ambiguous, but to code them is so complex, they need TIME to get them in. For all we know, they're figuring out how to implement them and will surprise us with an update one day. But NOT confirmed to be added.
Holy hell. I stay away from a news post for once and when I finally come here I get to read the most stupid, childish and pointless arrangement of Latin letters I have ever witnissed. First 'Sunflowers kill babies' and then this 'add ten billion new mobs lol' guy. I haven't even reached the fifth page of this thread and I'm already trying to eat my desk out of cringe and desperation. Good night. I think I need to keep clear of this particular forum section for a while.
I made it to page 15 before zoning out on this thread and just replying to what I have listed.
Give a man a fish and He'll eat for a day...
Give a gamer a fish and He'll complain about how the game is now ruined...
We still don't fully understand the function of the sunflower or other grow-able flowers yet, so I'm choosing to withhold judgement on how ruined the game is. If I may wish for a moment I'd like to see the Ocean biome get some much needed love in 1.7.
Ditto that. Not sure what to expect, but everything is more or less improving. Even not liking something, it grows on ya.
...and this is where I was saving something I'd said WAY up in one of the first quote replies in this post: if you got the game in Alpha, all updates are free. That clause was removed for Beta (so if you bought the game in Alpha, guaranteed free updates for life. Beta or beyond: they could charge for updates. If they wanted.
There's no confusion to what direction you're looking, you hit F3 and it tells you right there. Here's another pointless and overhyped addition to the game.
As someone else had said in this very topic: F3 is debug, not actually how you're supposed to legit tell in game (look at the sun/moon/clouds if you want an in-game way.... this will just make it easier).
I mean, I don't mind sunflowers. They aren't hurting anything, they look nice, ect. HOWEVER: They could be making more mobs, better terrain, an aether-dimension... and they decide to make more flowers.
From everything I've been following before deciding to see what the forums said, I've read or heard that this was a Biome Update (with improvements to the terrain). I saw a sunflower and thought "okay... This will be interesting... more interested in the biomes and the terrain, though..." It's a SMALL addition to everything else that is being added.
I swear you all need to start paying more attention to Mojang and the obvious posts that keep spouting up in the upper sections of the forum because of the things Mojang has frequently been announcing via. Twitter as of lately. I'm guessing this is the first time most of you have heard any news about 1.7, so for the last time, and I don't want to repeat myself, sunflowers & particle effects are NOT the only things confirmed for the update at the moment, and they're far from its theme. In fact, they're very minor features because the whole focus of the update is going to be adding multiple new biomes as well as overhauling the terrain generator and improving the biomes that already exist; they've already tweeted pictures hinting their progress regarding these far before Jeb hinted at the sunflower; apparently Sacheverell just decided that the newly mentioned sunflowers & impact particle effects were far more important than new biomes & terrain changes that a fraction of were hinted at before, so he decided that only the former were worthy of their own news article hinting at 1.7 which makes them look like they're the first and only confirmed features for 1.7 to all of you who pay no attention otherwise.
(above quote because I agree (and have said basically the same thing, like, 5 times now))
So far for 1.7:
Some plateau biome with taiga like trees on top.
Canyon biome.
An interesting forest biome with brown-ish grass and tall taiga trees.
Cliffs.
Sunflowers.
Some purple flower.
And the sand particles.
Scoreboard fixes and improvements.
Achievement updates.
Yay. Another person who actually knows what's going on and not focusing on a couple of MINOR features.
This, is what I mean.
Horses?
No use. You need a saddle = You have to find a dungeon or a village, too boring to go find one.
Hay bale block?
Feed horses.
Actual use?
No.
What I want from a Minecraft update, is new tool tiers, new biomes, lot of new mobs, but every single mob gets it's own update..?
Really?
This update will be interesting because it will make the game look more better, because of the biomes, what look nice, and new flowers, I love them! But things are lacking... People beg and beg for more mobs, tool tiers, and biomes, well, we are getting biomes now, but not mobs or new tools. THOSE are what people want. THOSE are what Mojang wont add.
No use for you maybe. Too boring to seek out a saddle (also in Nether Fortresses as well, btw)? What did you even buy the game for? Hay Bale blocks: also used for building (seriously, I love the building use of this block, especially on floors).
Tool tiers: why? everything there is just fine as is. Use a mod if you want more.
Biomes: lmao. Are you kidding me? You must live under a rock (especially with all the "research" I've seen you do... you haven't noticed...) This is primarily a BIOME/TERRAIN UPDATE. (also, use a mod if you want more)
Mobs: I'd rather they only add a few at a time and not overwhelm us. Besides, new mobs are rarely, if ever, introduced without two or more. Ocelot/Cat, Wolf/Dog, Horse/Donkey, Witch/Bat, etc... (again, use a mod if you want more).
All in all, I think everything is going pretty well. I just have to know: is this how these threads discussing the new items usually goes? If so, too much ignorance for me.
I just wish that since adding Nether Brick (item) to craft Nether Brick (block), Nether Brick Fences crafting would be changed to use the item (even if you don't get as much as a result as it'd still be more resource friendly anyway)... maybe even Nether Brick Fence Gate, though not necessarily...
*Sigh*... Do I need to pull out the update list again? Sure. Go here. Plenty more things then just a sunflower... http://www.minecraft...coming_features
There's another thing I'd like to point out: the way how new features are showcased by Mojang and 3rd party sites like MCF. Depending on how poorly or well presented they showcase a new feature, the public tends to receive it (more) negatively or (more) positively.
An example: stained clay blocks and colored wooden blocks.
- Stained clay block was shown with examples of possible uses. People liked it.
- Colored wooden blocks was shown in a palette with horribly saturated colors. People hated it, raged, said "why?! it's no use"... until a guy from Reddit made a barn with colored wooden blocks, if he had some. Then people regretted. Too late. Dinnerbone had given up on the idea.
The same thing goes for sunflowers. A lot of people think 1.7 will be about sunflowers and nothing else, the reactions tell that... but there's a huge list of upcoming features that most of us is not aware of.
Um... How can I change my grey Steve face into a cooler picture
Creator Of The Atlantica Mod
Modders can barely make a single small, unoptimised, unpolished feature in 48 hours. It's not as easy as you make it out to be.
Maybe because many people who want it already have it? There's a limited amount of people in the world who would be interested in any version of MC.
They made a new launcher for a reason. Just revert back to whatever version you want.
It should be applied when something major than moar redstone get added to the game (like the Alpha 1.2.0 Halloween Update added a new dimension and biomes), not when a new transportation method is added to the game.
-Moat-
Our Youtube Channel
- Terrain generation enhanced: the number of biomes will almost double.
- new biomes: Clay Mountains, Redwood Forest, Cliff.
- Oceans will have 2 biomes, a coastal and a deep one.
- the current/old biomes will have variants.
- cliffs, canyons, fancier and tree-covered mountains
- UI improvement.
- New decorative elements: sunflowers and falling particles.
- bug fixes, no durability loss on a miss sword attack, lighting error fix.
(could we expect some Easter Bone for 1.7? :3)

As someone else had said in this very topic: F3 is debug, not actually how you're supposed to legit tell in game (look at the sun/moon/clouds if you want an in-game way.... this will just make it easier).
(above quote because I agree (and have said basically the same thing, like, 5 times now))
Yay. Another person who actually knows what's going on and not focusing on a couple of MINOR features.
