Here we are again, reading about another sign how unprofessional this Notch guy really is. Posting about it on Twitter, like he's the one who's got tricked and probably believes he's the righteous guy who himself just defends again a bunch of bloodhungry lawyers. 1+1 usually is 2, not 3, not 4 or anything else. I'm sure there's more behind this and the lawsuit, if it comes, will probably break his neck.
You should have knowen from the start what happens if you announce the release of Minecraft on 11.11.2011 in direct competition to Skyrim. Sure, Minecraft is awesome...but Skyrim...how conceited are you Notchili?

oh, i was reading 'COPYRIGHT COPYRIGHT' everywhere, so i used it myself
...because I'm already getting BF3, Halo (Re-)CE, and a few other awesome games that are coming out this holiday season. Can't spread myself too thin...unless Skyrim has sum multiplayer.
You can own sets of words though, or common place application. Like how Apple inc. has been sued multiple times by Apple recording studio (famous for recording The Beatles). There is a limit though, as no one actually referring to the elder scrolls series by that name. I would bet that people who aren't fans of the series don't even know Skyrim is a part of it at all. Mojang will probably just change what they call it to avoid legal fiasco.

I believe you can copyright a phrase like the elder scrolls series, but the words still can be used, just not if its blatantly copying it. But lawyers gonna be lawyers, eh?

How can you know they said that, for all we know Notch was exaggerating, like he does often.
Or even flat-out lying.
What Notch did (posting some information about that) is absolutely useless and dumb.
We cant know if its true, because he doesnt even think about going into detail. yet he decides it would be smart to blog it so people get mad at bethesda

Come on now, its a word. "hey, this game also has the word 'Scrolls' in it. We should sue them because people might get confused." Last time I checked the entire planet was filled by humans not special needs sheep.

Your one of their people obviously and mad because it makes bad publicity for their company. It is not childish that he brought it to the public. It makes a case of what the public thinks of your companies shenanigans.

Mojang opening it up to the public is also a bit stupid and childish. Humans obviously make mistakes sometimes and do stupid things. But that doesnt mean we have to bash on them for days upon days just because of it. Everybody needs to grow up and be reasonable. Mojang, Bethesda, community, this is rediculous.. Calm down.

A name or title cannnot be copyrighted, but it can be trademarked.
