They know they don't have a strong enough case odds are...I get the sneaking feeling that they're doing it more as an intimidation attempt. Another possible strategy is that Mojang MAY (just a guess) being a smaller company have a harder time with the legal proceedings monitarily. So the larger company suing may assume that even though their case may be weak they can withstand the proceedings. Due to this they could potentially be trying to stiff-arm Mojang into giving them money up front via "negotiation" rather than having to actually go to court. Again I don't know this at all...but it could happen.
""Bethesda Softworks" (publisher and developer of game titles) and "Bethesda Game Studios" (Creators of games like Oblivion, Skyrim etc.) are not the same entity. BGS is an in-house game-making team led by Todd Howard which is one part of Bethesda Softworks, and has no direct connection to the lawsuit in progress by Bethesda Softworks. Unless further specified by the acronym "BGS", any references to Bethesda in the following article assume "Bethesda Softworks". Sorry about the confusion!""
THAT MEANS BGS (Bethesda Game Studios) MAKES THE GAMES YOU LOVE. mk? Bethesda Softworks is the "pappa corporation" that run it. the people at BGS are not suing Notch, keep loving your oblivions and fallouts and skyrims, cuz I'm sure those guys at BGS are going "wtf, uh Sir" to their bosses too. Come on now.
Honestly, BGS doesn't make games I "love." They make games I "kinda like." If their corporate wing is going to urinate themselves because someone is using a random noun to describe a game in the early development, then I really don't give a flying freeper about the distinction between the two. I will sacrifice playing a few games that I "kinda like" to not support a corporation that participates in this kind of rectal-hattery. Between Blizzard and Mojang, I've got pretty much everything I could want.
Don't see how they can own a world unless the title of a game is just that ( One word ). Maybe change the name to Skrolls and see if they own that too.
Honestly can you sue a company because of a bloody word I mean thats just stupid. I play the elder scroll series and when I heard about scrolls I had no thoughts whatsoever of elder scrolls. And if they can't use scrolls without getting sued they could always change the name right? I mean this whole thing just seems ridiculous. Hope this gets resolved soon.

Yo Tards
Can you please read befor you post
1.Notch himself said he liked the leder scrolls series
2.It wasn't the game developers that filed the lawsuit or whatever so stop raging and saying they have lost your respect because they have done nothing wrong they are just making a game (and at that a great one by what I have seen), not saying they hate minecraft and all its fans so stfu about it. It's the lawers that are being d*cks ,so be angry at them and not Bethedsa
3. This doesn't effect the games developed and created by bethedsa, they are still great so leave the games out of this
So guys stop hating Bethedsa
and grow the F*ck up ,yeah, stop acting like 4 year olds when another 4 year old says their toy is stupid

It depends on where this lawsuit is taking place. Such a thing would never be considered in Canada, but it might be in United States
It does not seem that Bethesda has grounds for a suit. One cannot copyright a common word such as "Scrolls". However if there is a significant similarity in the games, there may be some grounds along that line. I have not played "Minecraft" so I'm not familiar with it's content or style.
It would seem that Bethesda would lose...even in United States

Out of this mess, the only thing damaged so far is my opinion of Minecraft fans.
So many stupid comments in the vein of "that ***** Bethesda is suing cause she's jealous" or "Bethesda? Who? They must have like 100 fans, since I haven't heard of them, whereas Mojang has millions!" or "words in the dictionary can't be copyrighted! Scrolls, scrolls, scrolls! Will they sue me now!?!"
You can support Mojang without making ludicrous comments. For example, you could say that most people will not confuse "Scrolls" with "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" (or other Elder Scrolls games). This is a valid (i.e., non-stupid) argument except for the evidence in this very thread that a lot of people are confused easily (e.g., Bethesda is a woman).
Nevertheless, my opinion of notch keeps getting better. He rationally explained his side of the issue without trying to inflame the hordes.
Its a rather low blow, but the people that make the game (and the people that sell it) are very different.
The people who make Bethesda games don't care. The people who sell it do, they try to keep a market section to themselves (its the most stable way games become popular). I imagine this is more of a threat then real action would be taken, then again I could be very, very, wrong.

But no really this whole lawsuit thing is stupid.
