ok every one i did a quick search on google and i found this wiki page " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright "
and this as far as single word copyright " In the United States, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 37 Section 202.1a prohibits copyright of a single word, title or small group of words or phrases, regardless of originality.[34] In some circumstances these may be covered by trademarks. "
I think that you all should realise that the actual makers of the game are not the ones suing, but those who employ them. Also, someone said you can't "Own a word" ever hear of copyright/trademark?

Ah man there suing mojang for "Scrolls"?
AH **** I SAID SCROLLS.
BETHESDA SERIOUSLY DON'T SUE ME. IM SORRY I USED THE WORD "scrolls"
AW **** I DID IT AGAIN.
I want to see a paper that says that Bethesda owns the legal rights to the word Scrolls.
First of all people thing that Fortress craft should be sued. Not only does it share "craft" but it takes place in blocks. But guess what, mojang would fail, that's enough evidence. They could only sue if they found some kind of evidence that they stole the code for minecraft.
In this case, Mojang used the word Scrolls.
Not only is it in a different atmosphere and play sense, its also a CCG.
How the **** are they going to pass that lawsuit?
What the hell? I mean really, I've seen so many different games that include the word "Scroll" in them, but Mojang is the one who gets sued? Bethesda is probably just trying to get easy money for suing them for an unreasonable cause... I hope they lose badly in court, greedy assholes.
Honestly, I've long been a hardcore supporter of Bethesda, they make excellent quality games. Oblivion and Fallout 3/New Vegas being among the cream of the crop when it comes to RPGs like that (Fable don't hold a candle to this shiz yo) and I have been anticipating Skyrim harder than Lisa Simpson anticipates the newest Malibu Stacy Doll. But I was honestly appalled when I read this. And when I think of it, there's already been one joker who tried pulling this kind of **** and eventually got laughed out of court, with his trademarks revoked. I believe his name was Tim Langdell. Maybe if they called it "The Young Scrolls" that would be reasonable, but in my opinion Scrolls and The Elder Scrolls are nothing alike. They share ONE word. And when you consider that every TES game is referred to by it's subtitle (Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowwind) half the time by the company itself, this just seems a tad bit silly.
I have personally decided to not buy Skyrim and support others in their decision to Pirate the game. Honestly Bethesda deserves to lose the revenue when they allow their legal department to make such a rash and boneheaded decision. And to the dude who said that Bethesda had nothing to do with this a few posts up, sadly you're wrong. The legal team responsible for this REPRESENTS Bethesda Softworks and any and all actions they take reflect completely upon Bethesda Softworks, and thusly could not have made the decision to go ahead with this without consultation with the higher authorities within Bethesda Softworks.
Now, considering how legal battles like this usually go, and with the information we have available, I don't see this going too far. At the absolute worst the name of the title will be changed. Bethesda doesn't have much of a case. The two games are nothing alike. There is likely to be some further communication between Mojang and Bethesda. They're trying to come up with a solution that will avoid unnecessary legal issues. If Bethesda is smart they'll go with a compromise. If they ignore Mojang, then they'll just end up looking like a bully that's trying to keep an up and coming developer off the market, which will bring them some very negative press.
TL:DR - Bethesda is cool, but making a hasty and bad decision. There's a good chance Mojang will make it out unscathed if both parties work hard at a compromise. Let's hope they're not trying to Bully Mojang off the market.
Oh, and to the trolls coming on here just to bash Minecraft, go back to 4chan. Your kind are not welcome here.
And seriously how unprofesional is notch? Going on twitter and posting all of this like a child? Wow. Leave gaming to the big dogs mojang."
He called it minecraft because you MINE stuff and you CRAFT stuff. The similarities are coincidental. Dumbass.
Wow, if you dont like minecraft, get off these forums. A admin should just ban the trolls that are just coming on to bash minecraft. Its called MINECRAFTforums.net for a reason. You sir are Fail.
well they might as well sue the name the dead sea scrolls or whatever other ancient texts are out there... Quite frankly I think the idea of trademarking even an entire phrase is stupid.

The greatest creations are those that you make because you want to not because you have to.
Stop being a ****ing idiot. Boycotting the developers for an act of the legal department is something a person with a third grade education would do. The developers are great at their jobs, and the lawyers actually have to make money in order to keep their jobs. I deem you extremely stupid, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Capitalism at it's finest kiddos. Lets get legalities and government all fussied up over a game named "Scrolls". What. The. ****. Bethesda. This is ******** and you know it. No one, I repeat, NO ONE CALLS YOUR GAME SCROLLS ANYWAY! Are you going to sue over the name Elders? I don't think so. Go and pick on some corporation yer own size, I am pretty sure that a game named Scrolls won't take any of your Fifteen Trillion sales on the TES series.

Ezcept that Bethesda pays these idiots salaries, so they're ultimately responsible. Heres hoping they have enough sense to call off their dogs and issue an apology before this turns into a huge PR disaster.

That would truly be stepping on the source of Bethesda's sales.
