"Kill A Fly In The Past And It May Drastically Change The Future." - Unknown
I am 100% addicted to Minecraft, 100% addicted to PS3, and I am 100% sure that I am 100% addicted... to killing creepers!
someone tell bethesda to stfu and stop being gay. we should sue them for being retarded, they dont own the word scrolls, they own the phrase elder scrolls. maybe they should be more specific next time.
Also, I was (not anymore, as of now) a pretty huge fan of morrowind and oblivion.
Yet, I never said, nor thought "the elder scrolls" when I discussed/ pondered those games.
It's not as if anyone ever said "I'm a huge fan of the elder scrolls" and got laid anytime soon after, amirite?
Well, since the game doesn't sound anything at all like the elder scrolls series, they really can't sue for use of the word scrolls. I mean, it's not infringing any sort of copyright at all as far as i'm concerned. Could you imagine if game companies sued everyone for using a word that has any sort of remote resemblance to one of their titles? New games would never happen because the titles would all be used up.

You are completely misguided. Those are product lines and phrases that are already registered, so therefore starting up a company with those EXACT names is impossible. However, that doesn't mean the word "apple" itself is something owned by Apple. It's not like a farmer is being sued when he is in fact offering to sell someone an APPLE. Or for that matter, neither are other companies around the globe sued for having "Apple" in their name. Even if they would get sued, that would lead to nothing, considering ONE CAN'T OWN A WORD.
YES. YOU. CAN.
Or more accurately, you can own all the rights to it, by making it a trademark of your company. Making it a trademark also means that other people can't use SIMILAR things for their own business.
other companies around the globe sued for having "Apple" in their name.
Name a company with "Apple" in the name, as a brand, not an actual apple. I KNOW you can't do it without google, and I don't like your chances WITH it.
There is a reason for this.
therefore starting up a company with those EXACT names is impossible.
Not denying that for a second.
But if you started up a business called "L-Mart" I'm sure Walmart would have a thing or two to say about it. Likewise if you started "Nick's shoes" or made a site called "Stevie's App store" for programs you make.
It's not like I praise Notch into the heavens, but even for an idiot (self reference) it's not hard to see what the bad side is here. Bethesda and ZeniMax trying to enforce their dictatorship on the word "Scrolls". Imagine if you made a game and got sued for the name containing one similar word used in other titles? Just to give you a very casual example, imagine if those pathetic developers of that pathetic game call of duty sue Call of Juarez because it has "Call of" in common and makes them too similar?
It's just ridiculous. Screw Bethesda. They are a hundred times more the money-grabbing and community extorting bastards that Notch could ever hope to be.
They would have. And it got resolved quietly, like the thousands of other cases like this.
so um... who wants to spam the **** out of bethesdas inbox? or if you really wanted to be evil someone contact anonymous...im sure they would love to shut down bethesda just like they did the PS3 network.
gonna sue me bethesda?
No didn't think so.
now leave my pals at Mojang alone, minecraft is gonna be 10 times the game any of your games will ever be, and you're jealous.
When I think of these games, I don't think of "Elder Scrolls," I think "Oblivion" and "Skyrim." I didn't get into the series before then, so I don't really know anything about the previous games. That said, Oblivion wasn't good, and now that I've heard this, I'm not going to bother with Skyrim. I'll just play D3 when it comes out, some WoW when I need a more typical RPG fix, and Minecraft whenever I feel like digging or building stuff. I may or may not look at scrolls. I'd have to wait until it's out of EARLY DEVELOPMENT before considering whether or not I'll give it a try.
Seriously, I don't have very high regard for Bethesda, and they are now officially on my "toilet" list after this.
