This doesn't make any sense. They own the name "Elder Scrolls" not the word "scrolls." That's like saying George Lucas owns the words "Star" and "Wars."
And seriously how unprofesional is notch? Going on twitter and posting all of this like a child? Wow.
Notch is smart for putting this out there for the world to be made aware of. This is stupid. You cannot own a word. A combination of words, aka a phrase, is ownable. but a single word? I don't think so.
It would be awesome if every single person who has bought Minecraft were to send an email to Tod Howard at Bethesda promising not to buy Skyrim so long as this unfounded lawsuit is hanging over Mojang. It would be even better if every one of them were to get at least one other person to also send an email. Let their inboc overflow
potentially 3 million guaranteed non-buyers should make Bethesda question the wisdom of their legal department on this matter. I certainly won't be buying it.
Wow someone's desperate. That's really immature. They don't own the word scrolls. Besides it's only one word they have in common. I don't like Bethesda now
So what somebody could confuse Elder Scrolls with Scrolls, It just doesn't make any sense, the fact that they are suing Mojang for the word 'Scrolls' is just down right ridiculous! I mean think about it, say I were to make a game called 'The Elder Swords of Time' would they sue me for using 'Elder'? Because I don't see any reason to, and is you were to tell somebody about Elder Scrolls, you would say, "Elder Scrolls", Not, "Scrolls" That could mean ANYTHING! If I were to use the word scrolls in any title would I be sued?

MINECRAFT!!? In a way this is a bump even though it may not be purposefully it still is..... so you're welcome!
you're being dramatic it doesn't work that way. Bethesda isn't suing Mojang yet, Its given them a cease and desist letter. It's basically the warning to a law suit saying if they continue to use the name they can be sued and most likely things will be worked out between the two companies. Bethesda cannot sue you for saying or using the word unless you are trademarking/copyrighing the word to use as your own in commercial use as the name falls under Intellectual property of Bethesda and likeness to the games name The Elder Scrolls. Its not saying the game Scrolls looks or will play like The Elder Scrolls series, its saying the name is to similar to their's which can easily be fixed by changing it up. They don't want confusion between the two games which if they took it to court wouldn't hold up and both companies would end up settling out of court and mojang would still end up using the name. The way I look at it its Bethesda's lawyers being a little jumpy and stupid seeing how it looks like they are loosing the lawsuit with the orginal makers of fallout over the new fallout mmo.
Also for all those people who keep posting about boycotting bethesda and how you don't like them now for picking on mojang and notch. I hope you know its not their company as a whole who is doing this its their lawyers, So everyone whos talking about boycotting them your just a bunch of children acting childish. DO you think Notch will stop buying their games even if they sued him. hes the one who would be loosing money and I bet he would still pick up a copy of Skyrim or Fallout 4 when its released. SO stop acting stupid.

It pretty much is suing but giving the other party a chance to change it and not lose money.
Well, MS (Mojang Specifications) have their own rights. Besides, they might not know that there was a game called Elder Scrolls.
And for I, too, do not know the game as well.
