You can put helmets or pumpkins on your head, that is all. Pumpkins obscure part of your vision though so unless you're trying to avoid annoying endermen, you're best bet is to just use a helmet.

First of all guys, the launcher is a /launcher/, does it have to be pretty? You really only need to use it for less than thirty seconds to open the game. It's a beta too, it'll be improved later. Mojang had good reasons for why they wanted the new launcher such as:
- It auto-updates itself
- Can download diff. libraries for the game now
- Supports the new login system
- Supports multiple versions of Minecraft
- Various options that some (advanced) users may want

And many more I'm sure. Play the game, not the launcher.


P.S. You can close the launcher when the game launches, it'll auto do that later. Although its nice to have open so when your game crashes (to the point where it can't even show the crash screen) then you'll get the crashlog still.

Can't connect to my server even when using localhost connect. I get a bad packet ID 50.

anyone figure out how to get the icon on your desktop screen? i have to keep redownloading the game in order for me to play the game

When you download it, do you select "save" or "run"? If you select save, then it should save it in your designated download location. If that download location isn't your desktop then you should just find that location and move the minecraft.exe file to your desktop and the icon will be available on your screen.

Congrats on breaking EVERY FREAKING MOD. The new client will forcibly replace the .jar file if changed, preventing a lot of mods from working.

Some people have very different opinions on horses, though. :/

Horses = awesome
Clay blocks = awesome
Carpet, coal blocks, etc... = awesome
Resource packs = ridiculously cool

Ran up the new 1.6.1. My kids love the horses, but we're noticing the lag, particularly on an older laptop.

I'm struggling with the new launcher. It's fine for the vanilla 1.6.1, but I can't get it to work with a modded 1.5.2; the game loads and it tells me it's loaded the mods, but I don't see NEI. I can't seem to figure out how you can run different sets of MC versions each with their own set of mods and texture packs (e.g. 1.4.6 with RedPower, 1.5.2 with Railcraft+Buildcraft, etc.). Oh well, I can wait for them to sort it out whilst the modders get their mods up to 1.6.x. Hopefully Mojang will sort out the lagging (or publish some docs on how to tune it).

I don't really care for the tan-ish color on all of the clay blocks, the horses are cool, and carpet will help a lot in two story houses (I like that it's only half the thickness of snow). However, like many people, I'm running it on a laptop and it's dying. Can't get into any houses because I have buttons connected to the doors (since zombies now have ruined having wooden doors) and the short time period the doors are open for isn't enough time to get inside with the massive lag. I really hope they patch this soon because as of now I can't enjoy what would've been an awesome update. I'm sure they'll have an update fast, but as of now this is the most gamebreaking update I've seen so far. Can't wait to actually get my hands on the update when it's fixed though.

servers don't work on 1.6.1?

my 1.6.1 keeps on closing when I try to go on both single player and servers? Is anyone else having this problem?

theres also a few other bugs along with the above mentioning.
1. zombie pigmen get mad at me for no reason and go hammage
2. you cant really breed horses till they are tamed (what i think)
Notice: i for some random reason get an extreme lag spike whenever i walk 5 blocks into a village, might want to check that out?\
suggestions: guns and realistic fighting

At least I don't have to put up with any more accidental updating....
