Truly, truly, truly Notch is the type of man we should all aspire to be. A man above normal men. A man for whom giving millions to the people under him is not seen as a burden or a personal loss, but an enrichment of the whole. Generosity of that level is unbelievably rare in this world, and I beleive Notch is one of the even rarer breed who does it for all the right reasons.
I think most will agree that Notch has earned his place not only in the pantheon of game development gods, but also a place in the pantheon of the coolest and nicest people in any field or category.
A real class act.
Hope he gave himself SOME sort of a bonus. This is one advantage of working in a succsessful small buisness where your board of directors are essentialy on your level. I hope he put a significant amount back in to the bussness though.
hes just doing this for a tax wirte off -.- rich people do this all the time, donate or spend the money on work related stuff so taxs doesnt steal them all thne gets a tax write off later and gets some of the money back. Dont fall for this "i care about my workers" bs notch is trying to do
Notch s a very kind man. It's like he has a fear factor of positive 5 / +5. For the fear factor thing, you'll understand if you play Stronghold 1, Crusader, 2 or 3.
No we don't. He is good at ideas, but terrible with code. He even admitted it himself on his blog/tumblr thing. The code is in much better hands with Jeb.

i really dont think so, cause notch made Alpha 1.1.2, and that is by far the best version of a game i've ever played!!!

whether a game is fun or not is not dictated by how good a programmer is. one can make the best game ever, however, if it is made with incredibly sloppy code, then that code is still bad.
I've noticed a decent performance increase (less lag really) for me since Jeb took over, and I really like the direction they are taking minecraft with all the ai interactivity.
That's not to say Notch was bad, not at all, but I feel Jeb is better coming from a programmer's standpoint, that is.
Respect. How nice is Notch? 3 million bucks. 3 million. That's 3 Bugatti verons! Now all the employees can buy a lambo each... or just 4800 minecraft accounts each
He should be giving the yogscast some of that money in my opinion. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the yogscast actually get paid by them it would make scence. I would be a kind gesture though. Considering that the yogscast created a boom of sales within the millions, probably 60% of there revenue is because of them.
Honestly, I don't think the yogscast deserve any of that money. They get enough money as it is through ad revenue from youtube. Even so, they are really popular because of minecraft and notch is the one that made the game. Also, they VOLUNATRELY made videos of minecraft gameplay, they didn't have too. So, there is no obligation for them to get paid. It would be a nice gesture but it really isn't neccessary at all.

You do realize that 120,000$ is something that an expert architect, or a highly experienced chemist would make... right?
Not too mention they also get their regularly scheduled paychecks too.
