So you want them to stall the development of the Mod API because not only are you afraid to use the tool they straight-away give you, but also because you're so presumptuous that you automatically think the "resource format" is going to be all that much harder to use? How selfish.
Regardless of the benefits the changes have made to the performance of the game, you have to admit it has gotten a lot more difficult to edit texture packs. Before it was one big image. You could edit the terrain blocks without having to open multiple files. Now all the assets are packaged in a file we cant open, so we have to constantly use a 3rd party tool to convert? I REALLY hope the API helps the workflow instead of hinders it more.
Don't get me wrong, I love many of the things the changes have allowed, but I miss the ease of editing like before.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.

Nope they want more things and stuff, but you can't change the other things and take away the other stuff, even if the new stuff replaces the old things and makes all the other things and stuff better.
They also want it perfect, and updated exactly when they think it should be updated.
Then when they don't get exactly what they want, they will cry and whine that life is not fair, and that everything (epically the things and stuff) is the worst things and stuffs ever.
NOTE: I think I made up a new word (stuffs), not sure....Must find dictionary, can someone google that for me. Too tired to do it myself.

Of course though, even the new texture pack system had a good purpose. I'm glad they did it for the sake of not having to patch the game every time I wanted a new texture pack that had textures larger than 16 square pixels. I should too mention that the new texture pack system has also allowed for us to have animated textures supposedly. Just as had happened before, as a result of taking away some of the earlier simplicity, they've allowed for the system to become more dynamic and more controllable.
Where would I go to report bugs with the texture pack converter? The main bug tracker doesn't seem like the right place. For some reason it isn't converting a few of my animation's txt files correctly.
Big fancy mcmeta files and their brackets and curly brackets don't seem necessary for simple animations...
Just look at all dem Invisible Spiders. I checked Minecraft Wiki for the latest snapshot before coming on here. Things and stuff includes spiders with potion effects. (*fingers crossed for Fire Resistant Spiders*) What about Speed III or Strength IV Spiders?
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
OK so this texture pack deal..... why cant they have textures and sounds packs again? I was never told.
Cause this seems really silly to me,
Eh, there seems to be a reason for it, lets just see where this goes.
Quite interesting things and stuff, indeed.
So, if/after the snapshots goes live in the form of an update, will the Texture Packs section be renamed to Resource Packs?

Seriously? ...

Just download it and open/run it with java. Then select your texture pack and click "convert packs".

Most passive mobs have age systems... They do have a lot, but it's not bad at all.
