I gotta say, out of all the stuff on the joke reel that is the item I am the -most- ambivalent about. : / Guess I'm just too much of a builder. If there were going to be more passive mobs I'd hope for some aquatic mobs...
Oh GOD what would they drop? Horse meat? Glue?? T_T
All the recent updates have been okay... Redstone update was huuuge and game changing making things get even more technical, and I personally think that's the furthest they should stretch. I think they should be done with Survival updates for a while, and instead they should add on to customization of the creative side of Minecraft. For example, allowing us to customize what blocks are breakable in Adventure maps and giving us more possibilities with Command Blocks... And Minecraft Realms seems like a great idea as well.
I don't think they're adding Horses. They made it look like it here, and I may be wrong, but I think they're attempting to fool us once again. I also hope they don't add Horses, because it's simply NOT Minecraft. It just doesn't fit. Riding a Pig? Perfect. We don't need any more than that.
The Tinted Glass is also a fantastic idea. All that would be is a recoloring of an already in-the-game block, just like they did with wool. It won't break anything.
I'm just a little scared. Think about how Counter-Strike works... They worked on that game until 1.6 where it was finally claimed 'perfect'. After that they left it there. Because adding something, tweaking something, buffing something, nerfing something, ANYTHING, could imbalance the game and take it from its perfect state.
Here are some things that I personally think they should do to change Survival without ruining Survival.
Firstly, new game mode. Things must be harder. I really liked the idea of a Super Hostile Game Mode that REALLY makes things hard:
The mobs won't do any more damage than Hard Difficulty, but there will be much more of them and a much higher chance for them to have armor. They will spawn randomly, even sometimes in daylight and they also often spawn in groups that are like 'tribes' or 'packs'. Food is scarce, and other resources won't be found often either. You will not find ANY ores underground unless you look in specific locations such as Abandoned Mineshafts and maybe some newly added Abandoned Mines that can be rarely found at the surface. Things die over time. If you're lucky enough to spawn with animals near by for food, your farm will require more than just putting some cows in a pin. You will need to feed them over time or they will get sick. Farming is much harder. Many crops will end up rotten after all the time you've spent waiting for them to grow, and they will only grow efficiently without fertilizer in certain biomes/locations.
There are many 'suggestions' for Minecraft that are far fetched. You go on the Suggestion Forums and see people introducing entirely new ores and mobs and things that would change Minecraft in a way that many people wouldn't like. One of those things is Horses. Mojang needs to be smart about not letting the things that create ruin what they have already finished, because we like what Minecraft is now.
I honestly hope this is an attempt at another joke on Jeb's part.
For one, Mojang said during one of the Minecon panels that they want people to use the rail system more, so they will try to improve it and not make item pipes, instead forcing people to rely on carts (which they eventually added a pipe-like action that requires redstone to droppers(which defeats their purpose of adding the "dropper" in the first place so they could give dispensers more functionality)).
But if they add horses for fast travel? Minecart usage will go down even more. Some people might even use horse for item travel instead, even if they have to ride the horse themselves to do so. If horses are too slow, or are similar to riding pigs, people will complain and hate the feature anyways.
If they don't add horses for travel (as in, can't ride because of Mojang wanting players to use carts, or they end up horrible), people will complain even more than they say how much they want horses now.
TL;DR: Mojang isn't very good at implementation or sticking to their decisions. Like how they say on twitter they say they don't like automation and then add bonemeal used from dispensers.
I feel that horses are just going to be something else for players to breed and kill, and just yet another failed method of transportation that doesn't beat just walking or sprinting (or a boat if there's water already).
For people saying that the game is too easy and stuff like that, what do you think the mods section of this forum is for? Minecraft is a sandbox game that is the base of the best sandbox game possible, because the players themselves want to add things, like technology, magic, and so on, to create the ultimate sandbox. If you want things added or changed from the original vision, the community would be glad to help! We were given a game to play with. It is fantastic. However, we modify it to make a personalized game, which, to us, is perfect.

Fact: for the April fools there actually was a version of the game with the features shown
Fact: Mojang would not write a full set of changes like that just for a prank...
Conclusion: Mod API was used to do all the things in the prank
Secondary Conclusion: Mod API, coming soon to a snapshot near you
Tertiary Conclusion: Vects is Laughing manically
Why are so many people hating on horses? So what if they are "stupid" and "useless". Do all of you horse haters use every feature in the game? Do you all make minecart tracks everywhere and ride pigs? Do you make redstone things? No. No one is forcing you to use horses. Don't like them? Ignore them. Everyone is just all upset because they didn't get what THEY wanted. I'll admit that right after a major update I am uneasy about all the new features. However, soon after I quickly grow to love them as I find creative ways to use them. All of you "ultra survivalists" need to realize that there are.. wait for it... 3 GAMEMODES! They won't just add survival stuff because there are 2 other gamemodes that are extremely popular within the Minecraft community. The redstone update was a MAJOR help for creative builders and adventure map makers. All the little cosmetic stuff is extremely useful for creative builders making cool houses and such. Yes, you can use the items in survival, but all you survivalists need to realize NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT YOU. I for one and im excited for horses because it adds one more feature for me to play around with. That is all.

A lion does not concern himself with the opinion of sheep.

"WAAHH! This is so stupid! It's ruining the feel of Minecraft! Beta was better! Fix bugs NAO!"
Typical responses when Mojang posts any news regarding bug fixes:
"WAAAH! There's nothing new for us to play with! PLZ ADD THIS THING I WANT IN THE GAME!"
MOD API FINALLY!!!!!!!
Exactly. Poor Mojang, they just can't win.
Oh. My. Goodness. If you're right then...wow. Didn't think of it that way, knowing Mojang, you could be right.
