I agree with _LoneWolfe_. Yeah, Minecraft's a great game that stole many hours of my life but, c'mon. The dude made a video game. He did't find a cure for cancer or anything.
Sure, but Minecraft's just as amazing. Don't argue.
Wait let me get this straight... Notch is more influential then peace activists, heads of state, scientists, doctors, physicists because he ... made a video game you like? Even in the video game arena... more influential then Bushnell? Carmack? Perlin? Miere? Jackson? Wright?
Notch made a game you enjoy. He innovated nothing from a technical standpoint in the industry. Made a moderate impact on the indie scene and out of a planet of scientists, doctors, and actual innovators that have changed peoples lives for the better, be it helping bring fresh clean drinking water to the 3rd world, medical advances that have save millions of lives or brought peace to war torn countries.... you want a guy who made a video game to even make the top 100.... The absurdity that he's in the top 5 is sickening compared to the sacrifices made be real influential people... The fact you would put Notch in the same league as someone like Nelson Mandela shows me one thing: The bulk of gamers are now out of touch with reality.
Hey Notch, did you have your arm cut off for trying to get women the right to vote? How about being thrown in prison for 20 years and tortured, having your entire family killed, for bringing video evidence of atrocities in North Korea? You honestly, can tell me to my face, that a ing VIDEO GAME PROGRAMMER is somehow more influential then these people? YOU PEOPLE ARE BAT CRAZY! GET OUT OF YOUR ING BASEMENTS. This is just plain ING SICK PEOPLE.

Welp, say everyone votes for the person on the list who has personally affected them the most. That means, the person who has affected the largest amount of people directly will win. None of the names you have listed have ever come up in daily conversation, so i don't know who any of them are. So by that logic, I should vote for Notch, because he has affected me directly in some way. The problem is that many people, like the people in third world countries, can't vote for those who gave them fresh water, medicine, etc. People who have computers are the only people that can vote. And, most people who have computers have heard of minecraft. And, it's common among humans to like having something you can change to your liking in any way you want. So, logically, there will be many many people who like minecraft, and are personally more affected by it, than the people giving water and medicine in third world countries. Only people with computers can vote, people with computers are bound to be more influenced by something that is found all over internet. Coincidence? Nope. Sickening that people would rather vote for Notch? Nope. Keep also in mind, it's not a list of 100 BEST people, it's most INFLUENTIAL. But even if it was about best person, you would complain about Notch, who has brought lots of joy and fun to people being high up on the list, instead of Psy, who created a single short-lived music video? If it was about best person, which it seems like you thought it was, then Psy even being on the list should make ANYONE furious.
"Official voting ends on Friday, April 12th. The final TIME 100 list is selected by our editors and will be revealed on Thursday, April 18th."
Let's hope they don't just ignore most of the votes and chose whoever they feel like for top. Other than that, if negative votes count against positive, then Notch has won. Keep on voting though, idk if that's how they'll do it, and it would be cool to have he most votes of all anyway!
I haven't seen anyone comment on this yet, so I thought it was worth saying....
You guys do realize that the votes are for inclusion on the list, right? The poll says, "Should (person) be on this list?" That's all they want to know. Presumably they take this information into account when making their selection, but the best case scenario is that the editors take the top 100 from the poll and then arrange them in the order they feel appropriate.
I mean... you didn't really think they were just going to let a bunch of people on the internet decide the order of their list, did you?
Noooo!!! 83.9% of voters said he SHOULDN'T be on he list? At all?!

Did anyone on the list do anything on the level of curing cancer?
The only people I saw in the first ~20 or so results were other software/hardware developers and celebrities.
I'd say Notch deserves this just as much, or more so, than anyone else that I saw on the list of candidates.
For all those people saying that Notch isn't very influential - He has somehow managed to influence over 156,000 people... I'd say that that is pretty damn influential. If you hadn't guessed already, the poll was based on the most influentialpeople, so, believe it or not, it is about how many people they have influenced and inspired, it is not based on whether they have cured cancer or become the president of Egypt.

There are a few things you may or may not know about Britain: 1)Britain is a country. 2) Britain is called Britain. 5) Britain.

I say he should be the most influential person. Notch has made a game that is not yet fun, it is also educational. The game helps kids get their mind flowing with creativity, passion, and imagination. The game makes kids think before they do. I give my props to Notch and his team from Mojang! You really deserve that spot.

Quite astute.
