After checking the results after voting closed, he is 2nd to recieve the most yes votes but has less than 10% of the votes voting against him as the guy ahead of him. So if TIMES actually lets the people decide we could see a creeper on the cover of TIMES Mag!!!!
Voted for him! He has influenced many lives and more than 10,000,000 have bought his game! Why shouldn't he be the most influential person in the world?
Problems found:
A: Game would not exist and community would not either without Mojang, further narrowing reveals it equals to Notch.
B: If communities were on the list, some political party or activist group would get No.1
C: Did you forget Minecraft was updated so it could HANDLE mods and texturepacks?
D:You also forget that the game attracts a lot of haters.
E: Pretty sure some people would still be more famous than the modder equalling the Chuck Norris of fame to Minecraft Communities.
Problems found with "Problems found":
A: Sure, equals to notch. But Mojang itself would not exist without Notch.
B: Exactly the reason Notch is on the list, not Mojang. And I never said communities or groups should be on the list.
C: I said even if it never got past alpha there would be mods and texture packs. Mods did exist for alpha.
D: I didn't forget that. EVERYTHING attracts lots of haters.
E: I'm not saying a any mod maker would be on the list, i'm saying that mod makers would help spread the game that Notch made.

Minecraft isn't the only game that pushes Notch's influence, there are also many other games he has contributed to in development such as Scrolls, 0x10c, Ludum Dare entries, Breaking the Tower, Metagun, And Prelude of the Chambered.
Well to be fair Notch is most influential in the Gaming/Tech world, which is just where this tally is so if you know how to use the internet you probably will know about Minecraft sooner or later, and love it too!

Make sure you reply to me if you want me to see your post!!
EDIT.
After checking other names on that list... Wow, the whole thing sounds like a bad joke
It more or less is a bad joke, but it's one that's been running a long time. This is what used to be their "Person of the Year" issue, and there have often been a lot of momentary celebrities in the lineup. Notch is certainly as worthy as many other nominees, and at least some of the winners.
And hey, he's certainly the most influential Persson of the year!

I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.

If you did a calculation of yes minus no, Notch would win, because Mohammed Morsi has more nos than yeses. (Nos, yeses...)
I don't know if Notch is really much influence. Not what I see at least. He may be an awesome guy, but what exactly does he influence? I am not so sure about voting for him but when I finally see why he is, I could give him my vote.
I enjoy all of Notch's creations, it's made me be more open minded, creative, etc, but honestly.. He doesn't deserve the award, just my personal opinion, he is great and all but it's all not really that significant.
In short Notch is a good example of the human spirit of progress.
He could have monetized this game like most companies do, he could have squandered the profits and not distribute them among his employees. He constantly gives to charity, he has a grasp on objective reality when it comes to the delusion of intellectual property that is abused for profit over progress. He is a rare breed and good rolemodel for those who want to bring honest gaming and common sense values back to the industry.

I agree with _LoneWolfe_. Yeah, Minecraft's a great game that stole many hours of my life but, c'mon. The dude made a video game. He did't find a cure for cancer or anything.

If you do not clicky my dragon, the world's armies will hunt you down and kill you! (Nothing personal).
Notch is probably one of the most influential person from an educational and industrial point of view. Minecraft can be used to teach kids how to program in Java. [1] In the early days, programming was an essential part of everyday use of a computer. Recently, we simply touch a button and a browser magically appears, never thinking twice about how it works. The more kids learn how to program, the more programmers there will be in the work force of the future. When a Notch flaps his wings, a hurricane of future programmers will follow.
