open up your file explorer and in the address bar go to "%appdata%/.minecraft/bin".
From there, back-up your old minecraft.jar (I keep all older versions labeled as minecraft_181.jar, minecraft_19pr3, etc.) and then put your freshly downloaded minecraft.jar there then run the game as you normally would.
hey guys, i had just decided to invedit a little bit of stuff and run around the nether a little bit and explore (this is out of character for me but i killed myself later on) i gave myself some apples, a full set of diamond armor and a set of diamond tools... i ran around for about an hour, finding nothing interesting to my dismay, and having no intention of keeping this stuff i jumped in a lava pit to get rid of the stuff but i sat there for about ten seconds and nothing happened, my armor bar stayed at full, as did my health bar so i swam out
and tried again, to the same result, eventually i found a hugh cliff and jumped off and died, but i was wondering if this was a glitch or a new feature

When I download the update im getting a .zip file, and when I try to rename it to .jar it just remains "minecraft.jar.zip" and if I take out the original .jar file and try to launch minecraft it goes to the update screen and sits there indefinitely. :sad.gif:
EDIT :
Nevermind I got it, I had to extract it to a folder named mincraft.jar and now its working. Thanks

Shouldn't have had to extract it really, but I'm glad it worked out. When you rename it you need to make sure you get rid of the .zip portion - I guess it's just a habit for me since I HATE how windows hides file extensions by default so I instantly turn that off as soon as windows is installed on any of my systems lol.
Dragons WON'T spawn in the main world
...
they will spawn in a seperate world
...
Dragons wont ruin your world
since when is the starting area the only part of the map considered to be "our world"? it doesn't matter where dragons spawn, the point is what they "do" when you do encounter them. the complaining is rooted in why seemingly 50% of the time that a mob is added to the game it has to repetitively also have this "bad idea" attached to it.

when stephanie meyer made vampires, they sparkled and went to high school; if notch made vampires, they'd be re-textured zombies that now destroy blocks.
I am a noob when it comes to the technical aspects of Minecraft, so someone help me out here. If I update to 1.9 pre4, can I still play on a 1.8 server?
Well, now I know why Notch named the 1.8 new mob Endermen. Also, this new universe you can go in on 1.9 pt. 4, Endermen cannot die, every time you try to hit them, they teleport.
Just change the .zip extension to .jar
As I told Rembrandt50, try to right click the link and choose 'save target as'. It is possible browser is trying to open the file.
