Oh boo hoo, now you have to work a bit harder to make your farm work.
Stop crying. Bones are so damn easy to obtain and you get so much bonemeal from a single bone. It's not like a few extra use of bonemeal is going to kill you.

It's not like we really need to concentrate on wheat only on our first day.

This.
One bone gives you 3 bonemeal which, if you have a stack of bones, is more bonemeal than most people know what to do with. I personally don't mind the modification. I let my crops grow while I go around doing other projects, I'm not standing around watching my crops grow.
I never use bonemeal so it's not an issue for me. There's always other things I can do while I wait for crops to grow and my farms are huge enough to be self-sustainable.
All in all a good update...
Still too many darned caves and ravines though. need a custom world setting for it. I've effectively stopped playing minecraft because of how much of a pain in the rear it is to build underground structures. and backfill everything. Also there's so many mobs underground that I can walk around most nights and barely see anything anymore on the surface.
That, probably, shouldnt be happening. Likely, it's not mobs in the caves that's killing the population above. I'm *always* in areas that have huge cave systems underneath, but it has absolutely no effect whatsoever on the population of mobs aboveground at night. You're not the only one I've seen that has been having issues though with this, seen it mentioned on the forums more than a few times now.

They're probably annoyed because it's a completely pointless nerf. There's lots of other things in the game that would make ALOT of sense to nerf or otherwise balance differently, but the one that gets changed is..... bonemeal? This doesnt even affect the difficulty of anything whatsoever, it has one and ONLY one effect, which is that it makes USING the stuff much more irritating due to needing more stupid clicking. Bones and bonemeal frankly were nearly useless as it was (once you had a farm going, which takes hardly any time, you simply dont need any of it anymore, probably ever), now they're probably even more useless. Not that I personally care, I tend to just toss the stuff into fire anyway so it doesnt take up space that could be used for useful things.
Feh. Underwhelming update overall. Good to see bugfixes, but nothing interesting in the features. I cant imagine any uses for those rather unusual dispenser changes. Very..... strange and random.
There's only one thing I would like to see in the Redstone Update: Plumbing. Actual PIPES we could use, like in Terraria, to collect water (and/or) lava and store them somewhere else. This way we could drain those annoying watery areas block by block and move it somewhere else. This would be awesome.
That, and a Light Switch-like-block, like the ones you see in modern houses. Then my manor would be complete...
You don't like something so it's bad game design? Ok, I see your logic. Well, as it happens I do like this change so it must be good game design.
Seriously though people, the nerf was kinda needed. Those that don't like it have just gotten to used to having it easy, you need to learn how to play the game for yourselves again instead of practically having everything handed to you. As it stands I can usually have enough bonemeal to insta-grow enough crops that I will never go hungry again, by the end of the first night. That doesn't strike people as being a little bit easy in a survival game?
Needed? No. There are LOTS of other things that need a change.... this was not one of them. See, the thing about farming, is that there's only anything remotely resembling challenge in it to begin with at the absolute very start of the game. Once you have a farm of any sort up and running... constant free stuff, for good, unless something destroys it, all you have to do is harvest and replant every now and then. The bonemeal? No longer necessary..... if it even was necessary to begin with, which for many players, it isnt. People will complain alot about this one, but in the end, it's likely to have overall very little effect. If anything, bonemeal needed MORE THINGS TO USE IT FOR (like crafting). Seriously, it's bloody useless 99.9999999% of the time. Even a rather small farm will generally leave you with 8 bazillion crops you dont actually need piled up in chests, and that's WITHOUT the bonemeal.
There's LOTS of things right now that are "a little bit easy" in a survival game. Like every single hostile mob in the game, or the extremely overpowered armor (either iron OR diamond). Instead..... bonemeal nerf? What? *sigh*

They've already made skellies harder to kill and more intelligent for balance and to make it more survival-y, making resources useless is not how you make a game more of a survival game, it's how you make a game more of an inventory management game. For me it's less about the cost and more about the irritation. 7 clicks for one thing of wheat to grow is kinda stupid when it takes only 2 for a -tree- that will have 5+ chunks of wood, 2 or more saplings and maybe even an apple. I can get behind 2 meal for a tree but it just seems inane to put 7 clicks for wheat. Who would actually bother? It makes bones like zombie meat.
Personally if they want to make it take more bone meal I think it should be a percentage type thing, bone meal has a 50% chance of instantly growing a plant or something like that. I still don't like the idea but it's better than 21 clicks for one piece of bread.
Actually, there are many things needed in this Redstone update. For example: a Fan block that can blow items on the ground somewhere else (be good for big "Item Pipes"), a Ender Chest Minecart, perhaps Ender Portal frames giving off a Redstone Current when an Eye of Ender is placed in it, the promised Spike blocks (admit it, we need these), and the most valued one there could be, a Sensor Block (maybe motion sensors, block sensors, and item sensors). Feel free to post this on Reddit or tweet it to Mojang, just remember to give credit to the guy who thought of it first.
wait what.... dispensers shooting tnt? OMG AWESOME! and i agree with the bone meal nerf, ,but DO SOMETHING WITH LAPIZ!!!
Agreed. The sort-of promised Crying Obsidian blocks would be nice respawn points. You know how you can't use beds in the Nether and the End? Well, why not gather a bunch of Obsidian and Lapis and craft Crying Obsidian? Then you place it, right-click it, and you set your spawn point. The Lapis on the sides could glow blue too. Admit it, this would be awesome for Magic-like adventure maps.
Might I offer a compromise? While I'm in favor of the change myself, I can see the worry of others...(although personally, I find it's easier to carry around 10-12 steaks than 20 something bread). So perhaps keep the Bone meal changes in place, but add a new crafting recipe for some sort of fertilizer item which can be used to grow crops and trees faster? I'm not sure. Personally, I think it'd be interesting to make it to where we had to apply the fertilizer/bonemeal to the tilled soil, for a faster growth rate on 1-3 planted crops. I feel like that'd be an equal exchange.
To be honest, I'm kinda glad the bone meal is nerfed. Explanation: People too often complain how easy Minecraft is. But now hard mode has now become HARD mode. With more effort needing to be implemented by the player into even growing their crops, forces them to work hard to survive the first night and not get off easy with 7 pieces of bread before night ends. Thus, bone meal has now become a MUST NEED ITEM, so you could survive. That means, forcing the player to go out and fight or the serious need to find a village. This bone meal update was seen coming a mile away. Also, I got a surplus of bonemeal in my Normal difficulty world. Nice to see it'll be well used.
All the other stuff is awesome and helpful!!
BESIDES! For those who enjoy the Mind Crack crew, wouldn't this update make UHC more fun?
Furry you say? I hope you mean "lover of original anthropomorphic characters." But don't take us the wrong way from what people say on the Internet. That commercial on TV lies!!
I like anime, video games, being a furry, art, tech, and THE FUTURE. What does mean to me? I can go to any convention I like! I just need time off and a ride, though... Halp?
I'm kind of irked about the nerf, because wheat's generally one of the first things I eat to survive, but it kind of makes sense. Besides, now, when I'm further along, I won't have a -ton of bones and bonemeal piling up in my chests.
Mobs no longer walk over rails unless they are pursuing the player
Edit: Wait.. does this mean it'll be harder, possibly next to impossible to get mobs into minecrafts? That's what the rail thing sounds like.
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
Never used bonemeal for my gigantic farms and lumberyards , had plenty of other things to do while they regrew naturally...
Im glad they nerfed it , good work Jeb .
Can think of plenty of uses for the new dispenser orientations!

Oh well. Good bugfixes at least, I suppose.
