They didn't remove the stone slabs. There's a second block called smooth stone slabs, which have a different but similar appearance that has been in the block list for ages. They replaced/removed that one.
Those were awesome. They were like the secret block. Jeb has stated that if players are doing things outside the game's limits, that he should remove them and put them in the game. This is an example of that. I personally believe though that that policy makes it less fun.
I have no qualms about improving accessibility of these blocks, since I'm more concerned about its availability. Removing them outright only deprives players of a building option.
In fact, if Jeb is reasonable about it, he's should be expected to give that block a new ID eventually.
The designs of the quartz blocks are really not a problem to me.

Meh, the shapes are cool, but lack of color. You can create an object that looks white while stilll including some color in the shadows and adding bits of color in it. I don't think the current texture artist does well in being consistent with the rest of the game's art most of the time.
Either I don't know what you're talking about, or you don't. Possibly both. How could making texture packs simpler, easier, more expandable, and easier to maintain and modify, also signal the end of quality?
This method will consume a lot more RAM and will cause the game to lag a LOT more. I know because I've just updated my 128x sonic pack (WIP) and I am literally moving 1 block per second. So, people like me with less advanced graphics processors will suffer from this update.
OK this is driving me crazy. Has anyone figured out what the image for the snapshot actually is showing? The tnt minecart and the new quartz blocks are obvious. I want to know what the fire below the hopper is. It looks like some king of explosion or fire coming out. The third section of the hopper is extended downward so it is or was attached to something. Am I missing something obvious?

Great. This tied along with the internal server, "I've checked, it is completely unnessecary and only exists to make their jobs easier" is gonna cause the game to lag like Â.
I just tried a 1.7.3 jar and it runs like a dream without optifine installed and much higher graphical settings. Â normal people's computers.
Works great for me. Read the instructions before making a declaration as sweeping as "they dont work". If they didn't work, I don't think people would be going around referring people to it. Nor do I think that something so simple that plain "Doesn't work" would get released by a Mojang staff member.
Snapshot is ok. Underwhelming, but solid bug fixes and the texture changes are exciting. The change to the comparators to start outputting 1 signal at a single item? That is AWESOME.

Hate to say it, but I agree. I never had any problems running the game until they started "improving" the back-end. I already get lag and disconnects in single player, which shouldn't even be possible, so I really hope that they do a lot better job of coding the texturing to work smoothly, or I want my money back because I will soon not be able to play this game unless the next update comes with a new computer to run it on.
Bottom line, if I was able to run a game when I got it, there is an expectation that the system requirements will continue to be what they were when I made the decision to get the game. If they aren't, and I'm suddenly no longer able to play after an update, I am going to be rightfully upset, as I had no way of knowing what kind of hardware the game would take to run in the future.

Somehow the Improved Death Messages and renaming eggs will bring out the trolls. Imagine it dying from a monster with Herobrine, Notch, or (insert your minecraft name here) as a name, and a weapon named awkwardly. I may not be a troll, but somehow it urges me to become one... the so many ideas that can freak out others...

I am a problem seeker, so I can solve them. When I see a problem, that I did, I try to fix it. When there are problems I can't fix, I ask for help. But when people wants to make problems, even unknowingly, I try to stop them. Sometimes I get hurt, but will stand up after I fall.

+1 This is also let for high-resolution texture packs avoid performence degradation with bad disigned mods where mod related textures stored in single near to empty big texture pic. I see this problem in current versions with forestry/extrabee and some other.

Quartz is our answer to marble. All hail marble.

Curse PremiumI'll wait for the snapshot in 13w02b. Until next week to 13w03a, but barely those biomes and structure are buggy or even fixed yet soon.
