If those are rubys... could they be stronger than Diamond? Or you wont be able to make tools/armor out of them?
Seeing as how the ruby ore has almost the same texture as the red colored coins, I'm assuming ruby ore will be a rare mineral probably as rare as gold/diamond which can be processed into coins. Just assuming, mind you.
Also, ruby ore might also give way to other gems like emeralds and sapphires which might make the new currency system more advanced. Just a thought.

Google what the strogest/hardest object on earth is. That should give you an answer to the first question.....
And theres really no point in making tools/armour out of them, but it would be cool if you could. I now really want copper, silver and oynx
1) Will this eliminate nonrenewable resources, meaning that I can make a cobblestone generator, trade 2 stacks of cobblestone to a villager and get enough coin to buy myself a new diamond sword?
2) Could I use this as a manipulation tool for trading, i.e. nobody would trade 3 stacks of cobble for a diamond, but they would trade the equivalent currency amount of 3 stacks of cobble for a diamond?
3) Will this kill iConomy, or will they just convert currency to iConomy points?
4) Why do they need more armor or weaponry in Minecraft? There's no room for attack differential, and pre-enchantment sounds kind of pathetic, and diamonds are already supposed to be the best weapons/tools/armor in the game. It'd kind of ruin it for me (I like the idea of Ruby ore as a currency and several other uses).
5) Does anybody have any pie they want to donate?
Thank you for bearing with me. You win a free breath.

I am probably off 3D printing something. Or doing math.
My guess: The money has something to do with Redstone.
1) It's red in color (This would not be enough proof, though)
2) There's quite a bit of Redstone in the same exact picture... Quite. A. Bit.
3) There's Redstone Ore (or maybe a Coin-specific ore...? Sounds stupid, but the red looks a little different) in the background
4) Redstone Ore is somewhat rare, especially to newer players (However, it stockpiles over time -.-'
Just a guess, and can't wait for this "trading" feature
I take it no one noticed the two dispensers in the second picture? I'm fairly certain THAT is what the Redstone is for; and has no one noticed that the house in the background on the left is NOT made out of planks, but looks similar to wood?
EDIT: What Redstone ore? even zoomed in all I see on either picture is Redstone dust. I guarantee they wouldn't add a craftable currency to minecraft. I doubt Mojang supports counterfeiting.

1. Jeb blogged somewhere it would eliminate nonrenewable resources. However, I don't think you can trade everything and knowing how cobblestone generators function, cobblestone will probably not be tradable.
2. Not sure
3. Its a mod, some people have to accept a couple mods will be rendered obsolete when official content comes out that outdates its purpose. Look what happened to pistons.
4. There is no new armor and stuff coming out, what makes you think that? The new ore? I bet its the raw material for the new currency.
I take it no one noticed the two dispensers in the second picture? I'm fairly certain THAT is what the Redstone is for. Where is this Redstone ore that people are seeing?
?
And the mysterious gem is in the far right of the first pic. If you read the whole forum youd see several pictures of wwhere it is and clearer pictures
And finally, Jeb includes trading in game!
I waited for this moment a long time!
Minecraft is changing from sandbox to RPG.
for the last time, An rpg is a game where you take the role of a character and make actions to benefit/hinder yourself, minecraft was pretty much always an "rpg"!
And the mysterious gem is in the far right of the first pic. If you read the whole forum youd see several pictures of wwhere it is and clearer pictures
He means that the Redstone is most probably for using the dispensers, not for making gems.
YES! Jeb finally added Rubies to Minecraft, a feature I've been waiting for forever! He said he'd add a new ore (but only if there was a purpose for it) and I guess he made Rubies currency! And if you look at the picture closer, they aren't Redstone-made rubies. The player has a Potion Stand and there are various Pistons around the villager trap. If anything, the Redstone was used for them.
Woohoo Rubies! Does this mean we get Ruby Armor now?! :-D
Ruby Armor!!?... Yes plz! now i wont have to use the Ruby and Sapphire Armor Mod...
I still think that we will be using redstone to make these "red-coins". Maybe they are compressed redstone in the same way that 9 gold, iron or diamond make a solid block.
It's hard to tell what they'll be worth or how much we'll have to trade for items. Although if we need to trade a lot, we should probably be able to have "blue-coins" that are made from lapis and are worth 5 red-coins. It would give another actual use to lapis besides decoration and would save a lot of space for trading.
Or, for all we know, these coins could only be gathered from the villagers themselves. You can't mine them, craft them, or loot them (maybe). You must trade some sort of supply (e.g. food) to the villagers to receive them, otherwise there is no other way to get your hands on them (legitimately anyway).

I do think this will end both the idea of nonrenewable resources (which I'm happy to see go) and also the infinite stacks of crap you don't need, taking up chests (another thing I'm happy to see go). However, the idea that 128 cobble = a diamond sword is laughable. I think maybe 64 cobble would get you something, maybe a cake or something. 64 cakes would get you, say, an iron bar. 4 or 8 iron would give you a gold bar, and 4-8 gold would get you a diamond. So you'd need to spend about an hour at your generator to make a diamond sword.
2) Could I use this as a manipulation tool for trading, i.e. nobody would trade 3 stacks of cobble for a diamond, but they would trade the equivalent currency amount of 3 stacks of cobble for a diamond?
There's no way to know, but I doubt it. Generally, things go poorly for the player in games when it comes to the economy. You can trade 64 cobble for a cake, but a cake will only get you 48 cobble (for example).
Note: Coins add a layer to this, but that's all. 64 cobble could equal 1 coin, and then 1 coin could buy you a cake. Or 48 cobble.
3) Will this kill iConomy, or will they just convert currency to iConomy points?
I have no opinion, or knowledge, of iConomy.

I see nothing but speculation about Ruby armor and weapons. I see no reason to expect them.
I'm pretty sure that's an artifact of the picture being blown up. Note that the wooden sides of the house have the same horizontal lines on them.
No, if you look closely, maybe the right side is the house, but what is that smooth wood on the left?Just in case you are angry at villager looks, my texture pack coming out soon will fix that.
what's the ETA of 1.3? i'm not asking for it to come out, I just haven't heard any sort of release rumor. plus i need to know whether to continue my youtube series or wait til 1.3 comes out. anybody know?

I bet diamonds will still be rare than rubies cause when you mine the ruby ore it drops like 4 rubies. and diamond ore drops 1.

Curse PremiumThis is most logical possibility.

1. Make Paper
2. Make Cactus green dye
3. Combine them and BAM!
