So from what I am seeing, it looks as if we will have to take our tools to some form or repair station to get repaired, adds a little more challenge to keeping your tools repaired, we can combine enchantments now, so there is actually a reason to make these repairs, and it says repair and NAME tool...
so does this mean we will have the ability to name our tools as well? I could see custom maps/servers with "legendary" items, it would defiantly be cool.
This sounds like something that will be good to have on a PVP type server, because you can just repair god armor, god swords, and god bows without having to worry about them breaking.
EDIT: I am not sure about bows and armor being able to be repaired, but obviously you can do it with picks, swords, etc.
Did anyone notice? This has a new GUI. One would assume this means there is a new repair block as well. This looks like a much better way to repair tools too.
Especially high cost if you note that the current maximum spent on an Enchantment with an Enchantment Table costs 30 levels and the images have revealed 33 level costs or higher. The new experience system is easier to get to level 30, but rapidly gets tough after that. Given enough time you can always do so. Currently the Ender Dragon gives around 70 levels when e used to give over 100. I still think the Wither's 20 xp is too low. You should always be able to due a huge enchantment (or a big repair now) after a true Minecraft boss as a victory dance.

If regular is Vanilla then what flavor is your Minecraft?
This is an ideal modification to the existing repair system, making repairing both more costly, but ultimately more rewarding. Can't wait to try it out in-game!
Wouldn't this make getting god like enchantments very easy? Also would you be able to combine 2 fire aspect 2 swords to get a fire aspect 4? If so then I think it would be over powered. Who knows though it could be a pretty cool idea.
No. The way this will work is that you can combine different enchantments on the same type and material tools. So you can combine a sharpness IV sword with a looting III sword. However, conflicting enchantments such as smite and sharpness, you will only get the enchantment of the tool you put in the first slot. So if I put sharpness in the first slot and smite in the slot after the + sign, I will get sharpness and smite will get deleted. If you try to combine two of the same enchantments, the lower level one will be deleted and the higher level one will be unchanged. So combining a fire aspect II sword with another fire aspect II sword will give you 1 fire aspect II sword. A waste really.
Okay, so people don't realize this, but to repair and enchant it does cost levels, it isn't OP what so ever. It is equal trade. Another thing, this image was released by the Mojang team, this isn't some concept or some type of mod, its very real. And no one knows this apparently, but enchants have a max level they can't pass through normal means(this is a normal way btw). And I am assuming that you'd have to mix a pick with an efficiency of the same level to go up to the next tier, max 5. And these enchants were possible when we had level 50 max enchants...
It's actually an anvil
Source: Nathan Adams12h That's a big "yes, anvil!". Cool, okay! It's surprisingly hard to do anvils without using triangles or pointy cones.
So, if somebody has a grinder and lots of time they can get the best possible stuff!?... that's different than now, how?
Because if they combine all the diffrent stuff, because sharpness level 1 and fire aspect level 1 on a diamond sword is insanely rare, now all the player has to do is combine them, not try and get like 10 crap level 30 enchants, just use 2-3 and get some good stuff.
I implemented something very similar; as part of the mod Superior Enchanting
over a month ago.
I'd like to extend the repair idea, as keeping all the enchantments is a bit OP:
Rule 1: All enchantments drop by one level by default.
E.g. Fortune II + Unbreaking II ---> Fortune I & Unbreaking I
Rule 2: The value of the enchantment is the cost in experience orbs.
Rule 3: If a conflicting enchantment occurs on an item, and the value of that enchantment is 60% of (or 1 level less than) the original
Than the enchantment with the higher value is kept
Examples:
Smite II + Bane of arthropods I -> Smite II
Bane of arthropods III + Sharpness III -> Sharpness III
Rule 4: If a rare and expensive enchantment is consumed in the process (e.g. silk touch/fortune).
Than all other enchantments retain their level.
E.g.
[quote]Flame I & Punch I + Power IV and Infinity ----> Flame 1, Punch I, Power IV [quote]
I'd be happy to give my source code to Mojang,
if appropriate credit is given.
Yes you can get higher enchantments but they are purely for the ability to say i have a looting 50 sword even though it does the same as looting 3 or anything. They do not effect the sword or pickaxe or whatever unless you have installed a mod to make them work.
Nope, I've had a Bow with looting an admin lent me once, I did get much more than a Looting III bow would have gotten.
No, don't nerf the enchants. Make it server optionable, if I want to make a Sharp IV Fire II from a Sharp IV and Fire II, let me do it. I had to work equally for the swords.
Also, do they talk about transferring enchants from different swords. Like from wooden to diamond?

As I said you need a mod or plugin to get those enchantments to work. The vanilla does not supports those or you could enchant those with an enchantment table or the anvil.
As if enchantment wasn't broken enough already, now we can put everything into Diamond tools, weapons and armor and become god. It's not about how hard it is to get, either. It's just too powerful.

It's hard criticizing ideas when one is tired, so you'd better appreciate it when I criticize yours.
