I've heard that the release is October the 11th. Don't rely on this information, but I'm pretty sure that is in in October.

1. Type in %appdata% in the menu bar
2. open the minecraft folder
3. open the minecraft bin
4. Replace your minecraft.jar with the new snapshot you downloaded
5. Play
so yeah... im sure everyone probably knew this already.
Seems like the Halloween updates always contain the best goodies. I especially like the idea of bats in caves. Just adds another dimension of cool to the game.

Another change with nether portals: Teleportation is instant, so that is good..
