I'm actually thrilled to see all the new ways to get exp. I don't fight much (though I'm capable if pressed) and mine only the minimum required. I like farming and building in survival, so exp for smelting helped me a lot (I work with a lot of stone brick). Exp for breeding should be nice too.
It's really nice that Mojang is taking into account that not everyone goes out and kills things, and offers experience to those who don't want to.

I don't think it should cost xp to name the sword... That's just ridiculous in my opinion. As for combining weapons/tools and their enchants, I suppose a high xp is a pretty reasonable cost because I don't want to see everyone just running around with sharpness V, fire aspect II, Knockback II, Looting III swords. It should at least be a bit difficult to do.
I agree. Naming a sword is such a trivial addition; while I like it, it shouldn't cost me hard-earned xp to use a completely unnecessary cosmetic feature. Combining enchantments makes scents if it has a high xp cost, as clearly stated by RorouniTim. Repairing enchanted items? Yes, I believe an xp cost should be involved, but it certainly can't be as high as the cost for combining.
Was the Anvil super buggy for anyone else? At first it only appeared to work 1 time out of every few, then I renamed a sword and it completly stopped working.
Scratch this: That problm only happens for me when I'm using enchanted gear. Everything else works fine.

Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
Anvil seems nice and all, but it sure does seem....unfair...
Not only does it cost a whole load of iron, but it BREAKS too!? And why do I need to use XP to rename items? That seems a tad cheap.
I think they really need to balance out the anvil uses. They can either make the crafting recipe out of JUST iron ingots and have it the ability to break, OR it can keep the current crafting recipe and never break. I DO like the idea of combining enchantments, as it will be loads easier to get "God Armor" *queue heavenly choir*.
I also love the fact that you can kill people with them. Nice touch.
Did anyone notice? This has a new GUI. One would assume this means there is a new repair block as well. This looks like a much better way to repair tools too.
Woot, I called this yesterday. Nice looking block too
Counting down to youtube videos of epic single creeper explosions......

Make texture packs? Tired of people telling you to upload better screencaps? Send me a message with a link to your pack & I can help. (Check my Planet Minecraft blogs for photography examples). http://www.planetminecraft.com/member/likalaruku/
I think the anvil better have ATLEAST over 60 uses or use iron ingots insted of blocks. I think that 55!!! iron ingots is a bit pricy, but worth it ito save enchantmentsalso i think that that breeding animals should not always give experiance and when so very little becasue when you kill the animals you get experiance for breeding it AND killing it (not to mention that you get there drops)
What's 'pretty scary' is that this update is coming and all the junk it's adding can't be stopped (if you play on vanilla SMP like many people do.) Oh well, my grinders won't work right on my server anyway, I guess it doesn't matter that equipped zombies will wreck them.
P.S.: I'll be using a sound pack for the old, proper Minecraft sounds. At least I can control THAT.
That sucks.

I know! We need a second anvil, and then we put an anvil on the anvil and fix the anvil with an anvil!!!
Dig straight down!

Finally! Now I can literally 'farm xp'! XP farms are literal farms now!
