witches are not too hard to kill, they simply require a bit of planning to cope with the splash potion attack, glad to see Dinnerbone placing them in (avoidable)structures
If witches are fully implemented into the game(Survival, etc.) I will be so pissed I may actually quit playing Minecraft. There are a few things that don't fit in that are acceptable... But a witch...? Absolutely not. That is the furthest thing from ANYTHING that belongs in Minecraft. Get that crap out of here!
Have you played the snapshot and seen how the witch functions? It's actually more like an alchemist and is simply a mob that can use splash potions like you can. Furthermore Dinnerbone has said the witch will be tied to a structure (hut in swamps) so they can be turned off.

Im not noticing much changes in the B version of the snapshot. The sounds seem the same pretty much though there are a few new sounds, minecarts for one.
I am not shure though it tends to get quite lould when you ride it and tends to build up like bad feedback in a microphone. Although initialy it sounds pretty decent
As for the placement of glass. It makes breaking sounds as soon as you place it. =/ that isn't right logicly speaking. Im building, not destroying.
Suprised they didn't tweak the other sounds due to all the feedback. I hope they try to improve on the sounds and don't keep these ones. They are pretty bad in my opinion. Though I gave my reasons for this opinion on page 10 of this thread.
As for the witches, I think being biome restricted like the cats are is a neat idea. Though they really aren't that hard to defeat. A bow and arrows will do the trick, Just keep straffing to the left or right. Riding a pig makes it way to easy, especially with a sword. And I notice that the potions can now effect the witch if you get to close and they toss one at their feet. This can be used to your avantage. Carry a bucket of milk and a sword. Run up. Have them poison themselves. Run back, drink milk. Pop with an arrow or use your sword. WALA.
You all are making this mob look like a wither when its easier than killing a ghast. You may have to dodge its attacks but it goes down to easy. At the least it doesn't regenerate health, become imune to arrows past 50% damage taken, can fire 3 explosive shots at once, can break through every block known to the MC world. and WITHERS you to nothing. Yeah Ill take my chances with the witches.
Who knows, maybe Ill steal there spell books.. To bad the witchers werent villagers. You have farmers, black smiths, priests and librarians but a witch that trades potions. That would be interesting.
I have done several tests with witches , and even in full leather , with a wooden sword . They can be dealt with , without much issue . The most they ever took me from full health was just around half by the time poison ran out . Sure they are tougher then a zombie...they should be . But all this may or may not get changed since they are supposedly only 1/3 finished .
Either way , they are a nice change from the zombies , skeletons , creepers and Endermen .
So far this update is looking pretty nice , absolutely love the minecart sounds! Only a few things I would like to see get added in for the Halloween update...and I would be very happy!
1. Ability to use Shears and get Cobwebs in a legit way . For decorating and such , I do tend to build alot of Haunted Mansions and creepy towns...
2. Bat sounds! I know they just got added and this will more then likely happen .
3. Boat sounds...not counting on that one though .
Sorry buddy, but you and everyone else bought the game as is and Mojang has the right to change the game to how they see fit. Don't like the new stuff? Just don't update your game or go find/make mods that suit your wants.
The thing is, for multiplayer I am forced to update my minecraft to play on my SMP server, if I don't update I will lose nearly all players who play on it. I am asking for a MODLESS way to toggle mobs and such. Y'know the comments are for feedback and suggestions. Well, that was my feedback, and my suggestions for how to improve the game as it currently stands. A mojang implemented way is a lot less clunky and hassle than installing several mods. Also, since mob spawning comes directly from the game code, restricting said spawns with plugins on SMP is horribly inefficient (see mob spawns in peaceful, the spawn then immediately despawn, but they still spawn, thus wasting system resources) and a official system would be, in all likelihood, less taxing on system resources, if done correctly.
We needed to convert our worlds to a new save format when the height was changed the last time. I bet we will have to do that once again if the height limit increases.
My hope is that eventually Minecraft starts to use cubic chunk generation. If that happens, in theory there shouldn't be any height limitation at all. There already are mods which do this, so it isn't just something that could happen in theory... it just needs to be formally adopted by Mojang and put into the game. There isn't anything in particular which makes elevation special, other than the fact it would also require a few changes in the terrain generators as well.
Besides, Notch is going to need the technology for 0x10^c, so it might as well be incorporated into Minecraft as well. In theory there isn't anything stopping a determined group of players from implementing Larry Niven's Ringworld into Minecraft on a 1:1 scale model. I'm talking the entire structure, including the star in the middle and even the day/night panels.
I don't know why but somehow I don't like the idea of increasing the building height once again.
The idea of doing another major format conversion would stink, but if that was done with a significant content reorganization and rethinking the data format, it may not be all that bad. Just changing the height again to 1024 or some other arbitrary but fixed height doesn't seem like a good idea.
Is the dupe glitch where you throw down items then log on the exit then log back on going to be fixed becaue it works in 1.3.2. And what happened to doingW 1.3.3???????? hy skip around?????
But bats and witches nice job jeb!!!!!!
my friend told me how to get this and it seams simple enought so I will try it later on a popular server that I found on Minecraft Planet looks pretty cool

Anything else is just gravy!
I'm fairly positive you breed chickens with seeds, pigs with carrots, and everything else with wheat
Ah, sorry. I misunderstood

Please read what the person says before commenting, I had asked for a way to restrict it without using mods. Aka an official game feature.
See what I said for the first quote, and thank you for clarifying about the drops, I misread the drops on the wiki.

Version 2.1 now updated for MC 1.6.2
