Yes it does, but it is difficult. Probably more so for me because I use windows not a mac :smile.gif: I helped a friend to get it working. Just replace you minecraft.jar in user/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/bin then it SHOULD work.
-Download file
-Open your minecraft folder. /users/yourname/appdata/roaming/.minecraft (thats my default install with Vista)
-Open the /bin folder.
-Backup the minecraft.jar file in this directory. You can move or copy it to another directory just in case you want to go back to 1.7.
-Move the downloaded 1.8 minecraft.jar file to the /bin folder.
Fire up the game. You should have the new moving background on the main menu.
Create a new world. You may not see all the new stuff unless you create a new world. Make sure you backup your minecraft.jar file. You may want to backup your maps as well.
Am i the only one who HATES the size of the biomes now? I had to delete my world because I couldnt DO anything in it. I set up my base, acquired some stuff, and then decided to explore. Well on 3 sides of the Swamp biome i started in, there was an ocean that took more than a whole minecraft day to sail across. I sailed each direction for a whole day and didnt see any trace of land. On the one remaining border of my Swamp, there was a Desert. A huge desert. It took one minecraft day and then some to walk across. And it ended in..... another Ocean. So basically it would have taken me at least an hour to transport all my goods in multiple trips to a new biome. Depending on your world, you could be hours away from anything interesting it seems. The new biomes are just HUGE!
I haven't seen biomes that large. They're definitely larger than the old ones but it hasn't taken me a day to walk across any of them. So far, I love the size of the new biomes.
Loads of mineshafts (i heard loud cave spider noise when i spawned cuz i was near ravine), dungeons are rare, no npc villages at all but still amamzing. I like the rivers and large biomes.
