Can someone please help me? I'm on a Mac OS X 10.6.8. When I click the link for the download it asks if I want to save it or run it. I've done both. With saving it goes into my downloads and says it can't launch, and with running it it does the same. I also deleted my minecraft.jar (which I can't find now, by the way) file but even so, it still won't work. I can't drag my new .jar file into the space where my old .jar was, since I can't drag things from my downloads. I would really appreciate if someone could help me- it would mean a lot. I bet you know how it would feel without the amazing 1.8 update. :'(
Try going into the bin folder and copying the new minecraft.jar from your downloads folder into the bin folder. This has worked for some people.
Buggy but a great update. My first world load on this update spawn me on a tiny tiny island with a single tree and as far as I can see was nothing but water but a few tiny islands of grass or flowers. This update brought it to another level of survival. Had to scavage for seeds to grow food so I wouldnt starve to death. And with a single tree, it takes time to make tools!
This was a triumph!

Another bug: You have to click to place each individual block, you can't hold down rightt-mouse anymore to place a series of blocks.
I sincerely hope that wasn't intentional on Notch's part.

I must say, this is the BEST update ever. Bugs included! I'm a hardcore minecrafter (in other words I'm 18 and have quite a bit of free time and I love new ideas for games) and I've been playing the pre-release for about 2 hours and I must say, bugs and all, this is amazing. Special thanks to Notch! Best game ever just got better :biggrin.gif: (for me the bugs seem to have worked their way out all by themselves) The "saving chunks" errors with furnaces only happend the first time I used them and I can’t even remember the other bug that I ran into. I'm just soooo happy that Notch was able to do a pre-release on this though! I've been patiently waiting for SO long (as we all have I know) Anyway, I wish you all luck!

It's buggy as hell just yet but it looks like it's gonna pretty awesome. I'm not sure if I'm gonna play a whole lot until the actual release but it's definitely a nice taste of things to come. I really don't see them fixing everything in the next few days though. I hope but I'm not counting on it.
I really love the new terrain generation. The worlds are looking really nice, IMO. The biggest problem I'm having is the horrible framerate. In 1.7 it was rock solid with really great framerates on fancy and max distance. Now it feels like I'm getting about 5fps, lol.
wow so far i am LOVING it, ive had several crashes, but im still SUPER glad for this early release, im also LOVING the new cave generation, they seem sooo much bigger!

No, they should still be able to play. Once it comes out, just open Minecraft and check the Force Update box. It will download the latest verion.
