they seem to be griefing! i like this mob it's almost as unique to minecraft as the creeper

I have no idea like anyone else but I believe they are either independant [Passive/neutral/hostile] mobs that build shelter for themselves... OR!... They are the NPCs that Notch mentioned to be in the Adventure update.

It looks as if they break things. The one is the background is carrying dirt and he is on dirt. This one is carrying sand and is on sand and the sand around him looks very jagged as if being broken...

im no blind person. it aint a tree, it's a huge mushroom. you can tell by the dotted pattern and colour of it. quite huge i must say!
