WOW those look so scary not to menteion wierd. Now I'm NEVER leave my house at night. Not until I know what they do. I hope they don't destroy barriers that you make to keep them away. And they better not destroy houses block by block.
I would assume these are the new NPCs. If you're kind/neutral to them they will respect your property. If you kill them or destroy their property they will attempt to do the same to you. They're probably not as creepy in the daylight as they are here.

My guess. They take blocks from infront of them and throw those blocks at you. Depending on the block, it will do more or less damage. They also have a long reach.
Maybe they're peaceful and they're actually tho ones who craft the mine craft world as you travel and it's actually being built before your eyes like in the game? No? Oh well it was a good idea to me.
Notice the one is holding grass blocks instead of dirt... maybe a way to get grass into your underground thing that needs grass without inventory hacking!
