ALRIIIIIIIGHT!!! 1.3 is gonna be the best update evah! though tripwires are kinda visible and can most probably be avoided but are effective on mobs. This could possibly replace the old door mob trap (If you know what i mean). oh yeah and x 10 to the awesome couple who got married in Minecon. have a great time together!!!!! BYE!
well, tripwires will allow for a much wider distance of activation, with much less visible or underground wiring.
Also, tripwires will be able to be in the air, meaning the block under them can be moved (unlike pressure plates) meaning it will be much easier making a falling trap.
Tripwires would also be able to be placed where pressure plates cannot, such as above water, non-blocks, and above hatches. Which will all now can be used for traps. (Water because of the fact dispensers will be able to take water source blocks)
Sure, you can use pressure plates instead, but under the assumption that mobs (or players) are going to continue walking past pressure plates to go into a trap, instead of the activation happening above the trap.
String doesn't have much use, so I have like 4-5 stacks of it usually..... where wood has many important uses...

My point was he was describing the use of a pressure plate, more or less.
Although I guess being able to put a drop directly underneath would be useful...
Nyaa, fine, I'll accept them as having alternate uses to pressure plates. Pressure plates are probably best for small area detection, as tripwires are more bulky horizontally (2 anchor blocks + 2 wire tethers + detection wire).
Yeah. I think It'll be for traps mainly, or more "silent" and flexible activations for things. I probably would use it for opening doors, especially if they make tripwires silent. I also want to make things were you walk past a tripwire, and pistons automatically activate. Actually, a group of tripwires that activated a secret door when you sprinted past them would be pretty cool.
So altogether, almost like an upgrade from pressure plates.
Why have trip wires when that awesome laser mod has been made?
Add horses FFS, give us a real use for saddles.
And fix the damn boats; feet sticking out ends, jumping about, they are placed FACING YOU rather than FACING AWAY (srs wtf is with that?), destroy to easily, destroy on hitting lilly pads!?
They are adding pointless stuff like trip wires to cover up the fact that THEY ARE RE-WRITING MOST OF THE GAME AND IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE LEFT ALPHA!
Because not everyone uses mods.
If you've been paying attention, you'd know that Dinnerbone has already reworked boats, including lilypads. Boats now break lilypads instead of the other way around.
Why add horses, that sounds pointless to me.
And more like you:
"Why add horse when a horses mod has already been made"

There has already been seven snapshots, it would have been eight if they didnt skip 12w20a, I hope this comes in an update, and not a snapshot. also I hope they fix the crash from 12w21b or my survival world will be ruined

That brings up the pause menu yes, but the game continiues to run. Mobs will continiue to attack including creeper splosions, food will degenerate yada yada yada. On a game where the craft recipes must be found outside the game, lack of ability to pause is just outright mental.
The point is.....sight.... That you can barely see the wire when roaming the world, minding your own buisness. Whilst a big, square, raised pressureplate with only two types of materials (that arenot common for the ground)...well you get the point
But guess what?! THE TEXTURE! THE PIXELS! IT DOESNT FIT WITH THE GAME! Pixels that small are meant to be in an HD texture pack. Do you understand? It doesn't fit with the game, and if you fix it, then they have no use. So over all they just shouldn't be in the game at all. AT ALL.
Don't fully see the point of tripwires, since we have pressure plates already, but I guess it's for if you don't have a ton of redstone but do have a ton of string. Also for longer distances and better blending on blocks. Although, one small request: make it's texture 16x16? It doesn't look enough like the rest of the game to me... to high-def. Just make it, like, one pixel, going straight from one end to another.
I'm not even going to touch the people who are bitching about the snapshots. If you don't like it, just don't upgrade anymore, or stop whining. And the snapshots are made for finding bugs. If you don't like the bugs, don't get the snapshots.
Also, I don't know what you guys at mojang can do about this, but when you break wooden stairs on the XBLA version, the drop a wooden block. Not even the six you need to craft the stairs, just one, and it's annoying, because it means I have to make more stairs and waist wood. Posting it here so I don't have to hunt down where it would be more appropriate too

Woah. Calm down there. Sure, the texture for the stone rings on the tripwire arms probably should be 3x3 because they are smaller. But Dinnerbone didn't quite understand this when you were harassing him and just said "But... but... but it's not 16x16 pixels...".You see, all of the textures are under 16x16 pixels. But I see what you're saying, the ring model is smaller, so even though it is only 6x6 pixels, it looks somewhat out of place.
You've got to understand though, a 3x3 texture for the ring would look really flat.... it would do more harm than it would good to lower the resolution of the ring. If it bothers you though, you can always lower the resolution yourself by modifying the textures.
Dinnerbone has already explained to you why tripwires are going to be added. You just have spent too much time whining about them to think about any good uses for them. They are much different from pressure plates, and I have already explained a few key uses of tripwires that wouldn't work using pressure plates.
So please, stop harassing Mojang staff, and stop making the community look bad.

Nobody read carefully! It says "what else could possibly be added to this pile of goodies to make it even better? We can think of one thing - tripwires." It means they THINK that it would be good to have the tripwires! The tripwire is not official! Its just a suggestion!
are you kidding me!? that's not a "fluid merge of smp and ssp" that is ****, who the hell had that stupid idea!? now i cannot even play minecraft, it is too buggy, nonsense "out of memory"s everytime, bad rendering, laggy animals while playing single player, THIS IS SO ****ED UP
i don't care if some dumbass noob cries while saying "i want to play online with my friends but i don't know how to create a server because it's too dificult" come on! learn how to make servers, now all we have is an unplayable buggy minecraft with lag even in ssp, i want Notch's minecraft back, **** this merge
Um. I'm pretty sure that the OP stated that these are up coming features....snapshots are effectively for bug testing, yes? Snapshots are not the actual update, yes? I'm pretty sure getting shitty at the snapshot because it has bugs is like getting pissed off that water is wet WHY IS IT NOT DRY??!
Chill bro, revert to the proper update until this one is completed if you can't provide anything worthwhile to this other than your unhelpful opinion. Or go create a blog or something and complain about wet water on there.
On another note, tripwires are pretty cool. They may not have too many other uses than say pressure pads but they look a hell of a lot cooler and there ain't nothin' wrong with that.
Okay I got little ideas stirring in my twisted mind. I would like to see these trip wires to be able to be suspended between two blocks. I've been wanting to make "power lines" Ideally these would be restone powreed, but I'd be happy if I could get the appearance of powerlines. So jeb or dinnerbone, or whowever is working on this delightful little detail. Please. make it so we can remove the block under it so it basically hangs there.
Now I am going to sit and ponder what other ways I can use these upcoming features in my build on the server I play on. And to the dumbaft on first page who said "stop including stuff that no one wants." I want this. So please speak for yourself not for others.
Looking forward to 1.3.
keep up the good work Mojang.
Oh and look to tropicraft for inspiration. they have by far the nicest undersea animals I have seen so far.
edit: typos. forgive me.. I was having some wine just before posting

We did not see a fluid merge of SSP and SMP. We saw a horrible system full of bugs, that will fail worse than netflix's qwikster. Fix the things that are in game before you waste our time with things we do not want.
There probably are more than one team, one would probably handle bugs while another adds new features

While I do not care either way really , anything added to the game is always something new to play around with , or ignore if you so choose...
Hmm , tripwire trap , pistons open up a 4x4 hole under it , drops down into a obsidian lined pit filled with water , delay on pistons to close over the water level (can't move obsidian with pistons though...would have to be something else)...trapping the poor monster or person to die a horrible death...
I do see them using tripwire in the new pyramid structure for sure , or maybe other places , like in the old mine tunnels...
The Tripwire should have physics like the fishing line. It sways when stepped on and is pulled when walked on. It activates when pulled 1 block over. The same with other things, such as levers and buttons. They should have a clean moving animation, like blending or something...
And a minecraft wedding?! ahahah pffft what a nerd! he'll never get a girlfriend.
