Jeb's comment about installing snapshots really ought to have included advice to make a backup of your .minecraft directory *before* using a snapshot to prevent the loss of existing worlds to some bug or other.
This is called general common sense. Concerning the community of course. If someone doesn't have the sense to this already, they aren't in that group of people that should be testing snapshots.
I was mad when the week 21 snapshot came out because my mod, the emeralds+ mod, has to be changed since emeralds are now in the game.
For the people who are wondering why 1.3 isn't out yet, that is because they are still working on combining SMP and SSP. Also, they haven't done any work on the modding api.
In my opinion, the combination of SSP and SMP is a bad idea. there should be an option that allows you to make it so that nobody can join your world and grief it. I hope that their plan isn't to remove SMP entirely but still allow you to have dedicated servers that aren't some world on a random guys computer that would crash if 5 people get on his world. If Mojang gets rid of SMP entirely, they will be killing hundreds, if not thousands, of very popular servers that if they were forced to be an open world on someone's computer, would NOT be able to handle the traffic that they currently get. I think Mojang should focus on the modding api right now and hold all this SMP-SSP hybrid crap for 1.4 or something like 1.3.1. I personally am waiting for the modding api because i don't want it to be that after i have added LOTS of things in my mod, I have to then convert my ENTIRE mod into the new format. I would rather convert it when my mod is relatively small (I consider my mod small but it would still be a pain in the ass to convert) and I am sure a lot of fellow modders would agree with me.
Echh... this rubbish again? Is your skull made of concrete? No one can join your "server" unless you open it up and invite them. People aren't going to just wander in aimlessly... "Oh look! A random server! Let's just go muck everything up and **** on his dog while we're at it."

you sir, need to read more about this before commenting. First of all they aren't going to get rid of SMP, that is a given, second there is a really cool, REALLY OLD feature called whitelist, go google it. and your emeralds+ mod being made useless because of the update? Well what did you expect? mojang would just make people download your mod to play the game correctly? Please. As for API that is an extra thing that they are adding out of the goodness of their hearts to make modding just the slightest bit easier for people like you who don't want to work just a little harder.

Thank you. People like that should think before they post, or just not post at all...

Request for Jeb: Creative Mode/Adventure Mode exclusive blocks such as an invisible block to keep players inside the adventure map, but without making them feel boxed in. And a reset block, so when a player beats a map, or catastrophically loses (IE: Sets off a TNT trap that irreparably damages the map), the player can reset the map to it's previous state at the beginning of the map.
This (the invisible block that obstructs terrain passage) often called a cinematic barrier. Is visible to the player in creative mode, but not in survival mode or adventure mode.
Also need:
--Blocks that can be programmed to turn into another block or even an item drop or an entity, when a set of conditions is met. For instance: I want a custom village to appear deserted from a distance, but when the player is inside or very near one particular house, a single villager appears. It might work like this: you place an invisible barrier block inside the house. It has a condition-effect GUI that has a scrollable list of useful Conditions and a scrollable list of useful Effects. Conditions might include "player is near" and "player has itemID in inventory". Effects might include "change this into entity ID 120 (Villager)" or "change all block ID 37 (dandelion) in radius 8 (relative to the block) to entity ID 50 (creepers)."
Just looked at the wiki. It says that pressing F reloads chunks. This is something we've needed for so long! It means not having to log out to get rid of beta holes! At least, that's what I think. Gotta be tested.
errrrr I found a bug... Whenever you die while on this snapshot, your character skin goes back to default, and you have to exit to title and go back into your world to fix it... Please fix!!!

While I agree with a lot of features along these lines I have to say that they aren't something that should be added to vanilla minecraft, perhaps a mod or tool created by mojang for map makers but if it were something added into vanilla it would be taken advantage of on SMP servers, even single player. If it were created by mojang then it could work flawlessly with vanilla minecraft and therefor be used without having to install any mods when you want to play a map.

Well, since those certain blocks drop XP, I think you might get to level 30 extremely quickly, since you'd probably been killing mobs plus coal, redstone, emeralds, diamonds, etc. would be mined often so you'd probably get a ton of levels quickly...
Yea, my first post has the info, only blocks that don't drop themselves give it to you, for example, Coal, Redstone, Lapis Lazuli, Emerald, Diamond
It appears that Iron and Gold DO IN FACT DROP XP... after you cook them!
Allow me to clearify a few things for people who have no idea what they are doing:
1. Getting XP from mining Lapis Lazuli, Coal, Diamond and other ores that drop items instead of themselves is not a bug.
2. Getting XP from smelting iron ore and gold ore (and other blocks, I don't have a full list) is not a bug.
3. You can't create an adventure mode world for a reason. the gamemode was added for adventure maps, such as hunger games maps where the owners don't want people breaking blocks, it wasn't meant to be a playable gamemode such as hardcore and creative.
4. To get Adventure mode you must create a world (mode does not matter) and type in /gamemode 2 <playername>
5. For anyone who was messing around with /ban and accidentally banned themselves from their single player worlds can just go into the server folder in .minecraft and edit the banlist file.
6. People who think that you get to much XP from mining coal and the like: Jeb_ clearly stated that these snapshots would be buggy, that also means that the enchanting system isn't perfect yet, he is still working on balancing it out.
7. People who think that minecraft is getting to RPG: you don't HAVE to enchant things, you don't HAVE to get to the end, you don't HAVE to complete the achievements. the old minecraft is still there, its just been added onto.
8. 'Lanterns' that you find in the jungle are not lanterns, they are just glitched coco bean plants. Look at the wiki for more information.
9. (last snapshot bug) for people who logged into their world from an earlier version and found it gone. This bug was already stated so you should have read the list of bugs/features.
10. people who think that the Jungle Temples don't look like anything. They do in fact look a lot like Japanese temples and i think you should take another look
Bump because I know no one reads the pages before the latest one

Emeralds should be as common as atleast gold its ridicilous how 3 breads costs 1 emerald. Please balance this and also you should make enchatment to 50 again.Since we wil have exprience from mining ores its too easy to reach 30.

the main point of emeralds isnt to mine them, it is to trade for them. Collect some wheat, sell it for emeralds, and then use that money to buy stuff
Notch has said he wants redstone to be the only way to do programming, I wonder what jeb thinks.
All he would have to do is set it so that when you enter the village borders (these are set when the village is created) that the villagers would apear.

No I don't care what you say to me
Edit - Oh yeah I can't wait to see what Mojang has for the 1.3 trailer
