This week's Snapshot has a massive number of features! In addition to trading updates, enchantment improvements and SSP/SMP merging improvements, Adventure Map makers will be thrilled to know that there is a new game mode - "Adventure Mode" - to be tested! This mode prevents players from breaking blocks, while still allowing interactions like button/lever use, trading with villagers, and so on. The full feature list is below!

__________
New/Improved Features:
Trading with villagers has been updated
Villagers can now trade 2 items with you (e.g. 1 emerald 10 gravel -> 10 flint)
Enchantment system has been re-balanced
A full enchantment table set with bookshelves doesn't go up to 50, but 30
At the bottom of the 3 enchantments it always shows you the highest number possible
Using level 30 you have a lot more luck; almost all items get at least 2 enchantments
Emerald Ore can be found underground again (only in Extreme Mountain Biomes still)
Added Tripwire Hooks
Added potions to the creative inventory; found under brewing
Added Block of Emerald
Added delete item, armor and crafting to survival inventory when in creative
Pausing should work in single-player now
Some minor terrain changes
Added an "adventure" game mode (/gamemode 2)
- You cannot break or place any blocks
- You can interact with any blocks like doors and levers and you can buy things from villagers
Added cobblestone and stonebrick monster eggs to the creative inventory
Bug Fixes:
In the redstone tab of the creative inventory, the redstone torch is now on instead of being off
In the decoration tab of the creative inventory, the redstone torch got removed
New Bugs:
You can place wire from the tripwire in the air and once updated it will drop string
You can't hear TNT when you are out of an 16 block range.

Mojang also had the following to add regarding installation of Snapshots:
Quote from Jeb »
The snapshots can potentially destroy your save games, even though we try our best not to do that. Only use them if you know what you are doing. To “install” a snapshot, you download the JAR file and replace the one located in your “application data” folder. The easiest way to find that folder is to start the game, select “texture packs” and click on the “open texture pack folder” button. It will locate “.minecraft/texturepacks”, and the JAR file should be placed in “.minecraft/bin”.
To UNINSTALL the snapshot, start the launcher (Minecraft.exe on Windows) and click the “options” button. Then click on “force update” and login as usual. The launcher will then download the official JAR file for you. Note that save games created in the snapshot may not work (and probably doesn’t) in the official version of the game.
They should have taken those paragraphs out of context. The first paragraph that was not shown states that he was just recapping for how to install/uninstall snapshots. What he said there refers to every snapshot they have ever released really.
here is the first part:
"I recently received an angry email about these snapshots. The complaint was that we just upload these JAR files with absolutely no information on how they are supposed to be used. This is true, and is somewhat of a legacy from how the snapshotting was started: to give previews of possibly broken features. Expert users could satisfy their curiosity, and we received invaluable feedback on work in progress."
Anyways, these are some great updates! Sexy Emerald Blocks, Emerald Ore is back, fixes with the enchantment table and more trading with Villagers, and tons more. I'm surprised 1.3 hasn't been released!
To: Whoever doesn't know what a cobble/stone brick monster egg is
A stone monster egg is any one of the blocks that would spawn a silverfish if broken. Also, the stone blocks are capable of being burrowed into by the silverfish. How to detect: If the block mines slightly slower than the surrounding blocks, it is a hidden silverfish block. (ID:97)
Did anyone else notice that you get experience out of digging certain blocks. I started a new world and only have had it so far with a Wooden Pick on Coal...
[Edit] I mean I have mined only 12 pieces of Coal Ore with a Wooden Pick and a Stone Pick and I'm at level 4. If this happens with Iron then you don't even need mobs... Anyone else found this?
[Edit 2] OK, so it looks like only blocks that drop items, rather than the actual block, give XP. Emerald Ore, Coal Ore, Diamond Ore, Redstone Ore, Lapis Lazuli Ore. Any other blocks you guys have found?
Great update! Tripwires are gonna run all through the custom maps now D: Oh no!!! Wonder what's next?
I wanna find some emerald ore. No more having to kill millions of mobs now! Still no 1.3? It is a big update, so...
take your time (or hurry up! Whichever)
Jeb's comment about installing snapshots really ought to have included advice to make a backup of your .minecraft directory *before* using a snapshot to prevent the loss of existing worlds to some bug or other.
as for enchanting, I still think that the randomness needs to be removed and let players select the enchants they want as long as they have enough xp to pay for 'em.
Anyone who wants a seed on large biomes in which the entire map_0 is encompassed by mountain biomes use "desert" without quotes.
This is of course for anyone who wants to find emerald ore naturally. Structures on and bonus chests were on.
Edit: also people were complaining about tripwires being easy to spot, which in this version, is complete hogwash.

Well, since those certain blocks drop XP, I think you might get to level 30 extremely quickly, since you'd probably been killing mobs plus coal, redstone, emeralds, diamonds, etc. would be mined often so you'd probably get a ton of levels quickly...

Well, keep up the good work as always Mojang!
Silverfish blocks, duh...

A short one explaining some features, everything that I have missed should be in the discription box.

Yea, my first post has the info, only blocks that don't drop themselves give it to you, for example, Coal, Redstone, Lapis Lazuli, Emerald, Diamond
